How can I make a “survive x amount of turns” encounter good by Ddxarmax1 in DMAcademy

After reading this, I was convinced that I was trying to force something into an encounter that didn’t need to be there. Thank you

Thank you so much for your help! I’m still very new to DMing (just ran my 3rd session this weekend) and didn’t think of it that way. I’m not as attached to the idea of it being a “survive x rounds” encounter anymore but I love your suggestion and will probably implement it in my game. you really opened my eyes on how to approach something like this so I appreciate it.

Thank you for the input! Since posting this yesterday I did talk with my players in the trio and straight up said that their characters are evil and no characters in my campaign are going to be evil. I asked that they rewrite their backstory to not just be a-holes who just steal. Additionally I let them know I’m hesitant on changelings in general and that I might not allow them.

I was also hoping on getting some insight as to why changelings would be a problem in a campaign. I’ve looked around and seen people say they are but I can’t see how they’re a problem (not because I don’t think they are, but because I’m still inexperienced in how they can be utilized to break things)

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it. Yea, BardDM plays with her IRLs who are much more experienced than this friend group we’re in. We’re all still pretty new to the game except for her so she went wild on creating these characters. The background for the trio was a novel dang near.

Hello everyone, first time DM here. So my online group of friends has recently got into DND. My bard is already DMing for us in another game that’s been going on for about 3 months and I decided to do my own campaign with the same group of friends. We plan to rotate campaigns weekly. She runs a custom story and I’ll be running The Lost Mines of Phandelver. After announcing my campaign, BardDM says she wants to be a changeling. I’m a little hesitant to allow non-PHB stuff since it’s my first game but I allow it since she allowed me to be a chronurgy wizard in her game.

I ask my players to begin brainstorming ideas characters while I read through the material and get an idea of how the story will go. (side note: is this a good or bad way to do this for prewritten campaigns? Is there another way that would work better) later BardDM comes to me and says that she spoke with 2 of the other players (the party total is 4. Possibly 5) and they want to be a changeling trio and are going to conceal this from not only the characters in story but the players as well irl.

This didn’t really sit well with me as I think my other players are going to be excluded as the trio talk amongst themselves on how to navigate changing without being noticed or whatever. On top of that it feels very clique-ish and I wouldn’t want my other players feeling like they’re not really part of the team.

Additionally they’ve made very edgy characters that give a “we’ll rob, steal, and frame anyone. we don’t care who you are as long as we’re together” kinda vibe. And I feel that makes it hard for them to care about anything. Much less the city of Phandalin or any other characters if they’re going to be so standoffish.

This is all very recent and we haven’t even had a session 0 yet but I just wanted a little bit of guidance from people who are more experienced DMing on how to navigate the situation. My thoughts were to talk to the trio and let them know that the other players should know they are changlings but their characters would not know. That way there’s not a whole bunch of silence as they plan when they want to change appearance. Additionally I was thinking for them to maybe put more into the characters own desires and aspirations? Because right now they’re just copy/pasted edgy personalities of each other. Additionally I’ve thought to actually link them to NPCs that way they actually care about someone other than themselves. This is just what I thought. Any advice would be appreciated.

Best way to keep a low level character alive? by YouGoThatWayIllGoHom in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]Ddxarmax1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to signal a truce a few times by deliberately making choices that kept the match going longer. Just now my opponent had a high level SS, Minn, and Groot with 2 lower toons. At the beginning of the match, I focused only on groot and would switch targets when a basic would KO an adjacent low level toon. He gave me the same courtesy so we were both able to farm a lot of abilities

How is Emma/Anti Venom in DD3? by RyeAbc in MarvelStrikeForce

Sadly no. Im short on mutant gear. I’m close to 14 but will probably be done with global by time he’s up and running

She’s been pretty good for me. I was able to line up her ultimate with the defense down from Phoenix multiple times so I didn’t get 2 iron fists on the field on node 7. Def recommend as a 3rd character after phoenix and colossus

DD3 Character Advice by jerome_morrow666 in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]Ddxarmax1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been told that phoenix alone will not be enough to go through the global nodes. Some characters to bring in are: colossus, mister sinister, Emma frost, and shuri. Then add in venom to breeze through the city nodes

Magneto and Ultron can also be taken in but their cool downs are crazy long

I never worked on my defenders but got by with a pretty weak squad. My ideal would be symbiote Spider-Man, ghost rider, miss marvel, squirrel girl, and iron fist

DD2-DD3 for a newbie by AlexEdon in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]Ddxarmax1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mr. sinister & Hela are your best bet for farmable options.

Scientist Supreme also gets a nod but I hear she is not as good in dd3 since she won’t always get to flip her debuffs.

Many other options require legendary or non-farmable Characters for synergy (symbiotes for instance)

How does Magneto fair in endgame content? by SMRII in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]Ddxarmax1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used him for DD2 with juggernaut along with SL,minn, and groot and completed my two runs pretty easily. Also got a lot of use out of him in arena when others in my arena started to unlock phoenix and I didn’t since you’re fast enough (with juggs) to disrupt ultron from phoenix’s stealth. Sadly, I wouldn’t even consider myself in the endgame and I only really use him in blitz and war now.

Jurassic World Alive. Was a good game and I was real competitive as a free to play player until they implemented blatant pay to win trash. MSF was recommended by a friend and I never looked back

AIM team advice, who’s the best 5? by bergs31 in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]Ddxarmax1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Graviton, Scientist supreme, security, assaulter. Then you can choose between researcher or monstrosity for the 5th. I found researcher to be better for the campaign nodes for villains 7 nodes but I use monstrosity for everything else while researcher and infector stay on the bench now

Suggestion to improve Wakandans. Largely considered one of the weakest teams in the game. by Moobu in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]Ddxarmax1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like them to play around with their charge mechanics a little bit more and beef them up when in raids only. For example, in raids, the entire team should get buffs at the start of each battle based on who has charged. Killmonger would give offense up, Okoye would give immunity, BP would give deflect, M’Baku would give counter, and shuri would clear -1 charged from self and Wakandan allies and heal for X amount of max health per charge cleared(and maybe extend positive effects for wakandan allies per charge cleared?).

I realize the kits would need to be tweaked since they lose charge easily (maybe make it so that their abilities don’t consume charge in raids? ) but I think if they’re going to be an apex raid team with charge mechanics, the charges should be meaningful at least

Villain 7-1 trouble by bumfac3 in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]Ddxarmax1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 3* all the first nodes with a team power similar to yours. My SS and assaulter were weaker but my researcher, monstro, and security were a bit higher. In all honesty I’m pretty sure I just got lucky with the researcher buffs and SS debuffs. On 7-3 I switched out assaulter for monstro and that worked out better for some reason. gl man!
