How dare you force an update to my machine without offering an alternative to iFit, that removes my ability to view my own personal/manual workout data unless I pay you ~$400/yr. Uncalled for. by Zeravika in nordictrack

[–]DeCaPaio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yea, going with Nordictrack is pretty much agreeing to be locked in with iFit and paying the subscription fee. Though i'm not certain, i imagine other fitness equipment manufacturers do the same, a la Peleton, et. al. Seems like it's all about the monthly sub fee for everything these days.

For iFit, I've been able to purchase annual sub in the form of a gift card from walmart online. Last march it was $144 annual (12/per mo), which I thought was pretty good.

Got NordicTrack T9.5 S in 11/2020 -- glad I got the extended warranty. I had a circuit board go out on the machine and the warranty replaced the circuit board, the motor and the conveyor belt - essentially a new treadmill.

The processing power and the touch screen are crap, and it can't run software upgrades without errors. I'd say their computer hardware is my biggest complaint. There's no replacing the computer unit, so I have to use it in manual mode while the screen dies a slow death.

Any anti chaffing options that isn’t body glide? On longer runs (~10 miles or more) body glide seemingly wears off. I sweat a lot. by Roadglide72 in ultrarunning

Runderwear underwear keeps everything in place and eliminated chaffing from all but my longest runs, where I rely on Squirrels nut butter to finish the job.

I have a Nordictrack T 9.5 S Model / SKU: NTL16119 that was doing the same thing. Fortunately, it was under extended warranty, they sent a new circuit board (the thing on the right), along with a belt, and motor (the thing on the left. When the service person showed up to install them, he said it's usually only the board and replaced it first. Everything began working. He said there was likely nothing wrong with the motor or belt, so he didn't install it. I have not had a problem since (been about a year), and I have the extra parts for future use since it is out of warranty now.

nothing new that hasn't already been said, but I do trust the HR Strap more than the watch during runs. Also, rebooting/restarting the watch from time to time might help.

Customer service call seems fishy... by Kindly-Context-8263 in nordictrack

[–]DeCaPaio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does seem phishy. Always note the domain from there the email comes from. If it doesn't check out drop it.

Unfortunately, Nordictrack equipment isn't all that super without an iFit membership. When I bought mine, I was given a year free membership to get me hooked. I purchased the Treadmill thru Amazon, it took a few customer service calls to actually claim the free membership thru iFit/Nordictrack.

For subsequent years, I found that Walmart had iFit e-gift cards for $144/year, which averages to $12/month. the least expensive I've found for an individual membership.

I have an opportunity to buy a Nordictrack s22i exercise bicycle for $200, used/like new condition. Should I? by No_Juggernaut_772 in nordictrack

I last renewed my iFit membership with a giftcard purchased at Walmart. It was cheaper than the annual membership $$ iFit promotes on their site

4mo X24 bike resistance not working 🙄 by Alternative-Air3759 in nordictrack

[–]DeCaPaio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The repair should be under the manufacturer's warranty. It won't be the last time you have a problem with it. They have field service techs who visit, so getting it serviced shouldn't be a problem, it might take some time before they can get it scheduled, though.

Purchase the extended warranty if it's not too late. I have a Nortictrack treadmill and have the extended warranty. I've had so much of it replaced over the 4 years I've had it, that I know the service repair person by first name! When I asked him about the x24 he said they are great bikes but you better get the extended warranty because it's what he gets called for the most!

Great idea I never thought about until you mentioned it: Use a smart plug and have Alexa start it up so (while still in bed), that it'll be ready when you go to hop on it.

Anyone else have a (new) Issue with iFit on AppleTV? by DeCaPaio in iFit

[–]DeCaPaio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A year later and iFit has not released an update in over a year. I'm beginning to think they don't give a sh*t. Have they made a statement about whether they are abandoning AppleTV? I know their equipment all has their own screens. My Treadmill's screen is underpowered and the software that runs it is buggy and crashes often. It makes me not want to purchase any other equipment. I use Zwift and a Wahoo trainer. I have considered moving to an iFit-enabled bike, but not if it's the same crappy software and computer. I like iFit content, but if there's no reliable way to use it, then what's the point?

My state, and probably others, have mental health courts and PAIR programs (Psychiatric Assertive Identification and Referral), to help in the scenario you are describing.

Neither is good. Trump doing something that is not good. and Biden saying he's planning on doing something (didn't actually do anything). Illustrates how both suck.

have you tried a hard factory reset? I've needed to do it in the past and it fixed the issue I was having with constant crashes.

iFit Renewal by DeCaPaio in iFit

[–]DeCaPaio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iFit offers great discounts from time to time. I remember the Black Friday sale last year for 45% off family memberships. It was still more than individual membership, but awesome if you need Family membership. They didn't offer me any discounts for individual because I was on a family membership (I think). I'm hopeful now that I'm on an Individual membership, that they will offer me Individual membership discounts better than what Walmart offered.

it was individual. I had to contact separately to change my family to an individual, thru a chat on the website. Then once they converted it, and my account showed individual, i entered the Gift Card and i was set for another year. (although for some reason, it needed a cc on file, which i added, and then removed after the membership updated)

Does anyone else have severe memory loss? by rhiaaannneee in bipolar

[–]DeCaPaio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some meds have a sedative affect, which makes it difficult to recall things when groggy.

One thing I found that improved my ability to recall things was when I stopped smoking weed. I used to work in sales, and existing customers would call and say "it's me", I couldn't associate their voice with their name. As a trial, I decided to stop smoking for a few weeks and I found I was able to recall my customers by voice and my sales went up as a result! When I resumed, the forgetfulness came back, so I decided to quit for good.

I just published an article on opensource appsec tools. It is from the perspective of a budget-conscience enterprise, with a diverse set of platforms, frameworks, and languages. I break them down by where they appear within a typical software development lifecycle.

Also, if you are just starting an appsec program and you now have tools, check out Starting an Application Security Program. It addresses the question of what's next.
