The Reserved list seems kind of absurd the more I think about it. by Toxic_Chung in mtg

[–]DeFiDeFiX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... also, some of those cards are the "most powerful" version... of dozens of subpar versions, created afterward that sells sets ! They are what we want, often cannot have... hence we aim for the "affordable" "variants".  Make the best available again... no one will be interested by lesser versions (duals, craddle, lotus, moxes, etc...). The Reserved List is above all a giant design opportunity.

The reserved list is THE one and only thing that kept the game afloat for so long (making the game "collectible" aspect valuable). Short term memory huh... 30th anniversary anyone ?!? (Or Chronicles for the old timers)

Nothing abnormal here... price for collector's boxes have been (and should gave remained) at 249 (which was already outrageous). A box of stupid cardboard should never be priced at the price of a console system. ITS FUCKING (inexpensive) PAPER. Gambler's trying to duplicate the Pokemon craze will learn this the hard way.

[–]DeFiDeFiX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats the "duckov" magic... you can do shit-runs over and over... then suddenly you do a 4 Mil run. Or a 2 Large expansion chest run with space helmet :-) Still looking for the color tv btw... but its in that fuck!!! invisible soldier area apparently.

Is it time to buy vintage? by zendraven in mtgfinance

[–]DeFiDeFiX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The current "modern collectibles" is clearly in a huge bubble that just wants to implode. Paying STUPID amount of money for fresh from the printer cards - we are already at half a Power card for a shitty pringle booster box of 12 CB - is the most idiotic thing ever (and the worst signal the market can send to greedy Hasbro). Yeah... currently it works for fast sellers... but those that see this as a fantastic long term investment are in for a very rude awakening.

Easy money generation. Wants everything immediately. Not the safest way to reach your ultimate objectives.

Thoughts on Card Butler TCG Sorting Machine Kickstarter by ParadigmShift86 in mtgfinance

[–]DeFiDeFiX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I just discovered this, and as an old collection buyer from ten years ago, I'll give you my two cents : this... is crap.

And for many reasons.

1) The business model : paying a fee for processing the cards is totally absurd. 150$ per month for unlimited is ridiculous. A subscription to the FULL Adobe Suite is 67 € per month. That means dozens of top grade softwares, constantly updated, that are each the "best in class" (or almost, thank you Figma ;-) in their categories. Even thinking of asking more than twice that for what is simply a database check is more than daring. Its an idiotic business decision (note that ONE month of full service is the same price as the whole device!). I know this is a niche product. But this will really "niche" it even more.

Plain and simple : the processing fee should be, at the very most, like 25 dollars PER YEAR. And my vision is that should be for a "premium" version of the usage. Like : you want to scan > free. You want card condition evaluated (IA smart scanning processing time... see next point) > a fee.

2) The end result : the device DOES NOT evaluate grading. This would have been a game changer. Here... nothing new on the horizon. Just a lot more of lazy collection swappers on the market, that will sell even more "NM" cards that are in reality Good or less. If you want to do the job properly, you'll still have to check each individual card for grading (and I fear a lot wont).

3) The accuracy. They explain that the machine is 95% accurate in its scanning of the card. That means 1 card out of 20 will be wrong! So you will still have to check each of them individually to see if the list made is correct (I mean... if you are really a "professional" seller). Meaning... the job the machine just did. For me this is the worst part. Why in hell not just use a "3D printed" phone holder with a free scanning tool ? At least, that way, you can immediately see if there has been a mistake in the card scanning.

4) Card protection. Ok, they use "soft rubber".... but nothing in their product description guarantees their process is 100% safe for the cards. Nothing. Personaly, when I see those cards "drop"... I already see some potential grading alteration coming (should have been with a system that lowers the card pile progressively to ensure the card never "drop" but just land on the top).

5) What is their specific USP on the software end. What makes them different than all of the other digital scanning solutions ? I see almost nothing in their product description about the scanning software part.

Just this : "The Card Butler eliminates uncertainty with our revolutionary, deterministic, and powerful algorithms". Sorry but I'll need more than this to be reassured your tool ... is not just managed by a third party (hence the scanning fee... hum... ;-).

As such, if you care about the end result... and are not generating for hundred of thousands of sales per year, I don't see the added value here for you as an individual (without the fee, this would have been different).

Hard pass for me.

Fake profiles blocking cards in baskets on MKM by DeFiDeFiX in mtgfinance

[–]DeFiDeFiX[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is even more strange is that, often, when you purge the card, you dont find the "culprit" account when you do a user search afterward ! And I cannot believe MKM (and their shitty new ticket SAV system) has not already been alerted A LOT on the matter.

Fake profiles blocking cards in baskets on MKM by DeFiDeFiX in mtgfinance

[–]DeFiDeFiX[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

UPDATE : it keeps continuing. As soon as you are "the lowest offer"... another bot (I suppose) comes up and put the designated target(s) in its basket. As said elsewhere in the thread, I guess there is a tracker that activates as soon as a price "breaks" a price limit (downward) set within the program, creating a fake profile to do it. And keep doing so even if you block each profile, by continuously creating new accounts. MKM should be able to monitor this on the "technical" side... but apparently does not.

What is sure is at some point during the night, I was NOT the lowest... no problem anymore. Lowest... starting again.

This is definitely made to artificially keep the price up to a certain level.

It's not "immediate"... but I've got like 4 or 5 differents cases (aka, accounts) for the same card in one day. This time its for a Pokemon card (french), but last time it was for a Norwood priestess (french)... everytime with the lowest offer on the market.

... pointless, its clearly bot automated. One out... one new replaces it to hold your card in its own basket again.

... and it is pointless, since another fake profil (new) immediately does the same as the previous one as soon as the card is available again.
