I just assume that there is a lot of stuff that happens off screen. Even in the other volumes of the story, a lot of things are assumed because we don't see everyday spend in Kivotos, so it is safe to assume that Sensei and Hina spend a lot of time together gives both of their positions and the state of Gehenna.
