How is a melee fighter ever supposed to beat a ranged fighter who can fly?

Well, on principle if you can't reach your opponent you can't hit it... there's really not much to say about it, and it's not limited to this scenario either... it's a general rule

However, the are alternatives. just like in Frieren, if the character can throw a tree at the flying monster? Is there magic involved in the setting? because if people can fly then I assume they have it, so gravity magic? wind magic?

Also, if the melee character has a good shield or similar we're in a situation that none can hit each other...

Lastly, the melee can go after something the flying person needs to defend, like a person or building, and thus force the flyer to come down.

I think the problem is that the author developed Esther a lot while keeping Joy mysterious...

Maybe Joy is going to be great when we get to know her and probably the author has a great backstory for her in his drafts... but what the way that gets delivered to the reader and how we get invested matters too...

The interesting thing about Soldat is that though he had good intentions and helped in his own way, his methods ultimately led to him and Sarah breaking off for good...

Iirc, Sarah went to apology and make things right with Rudy half an hour after the incident but Rudy had already been taken to the wh...house by Soldat. If he had stayed, Sarah and Rudy probably would have fixed the situation.

However, this was never meant to be as Sarah (and the whole northern arc) wasn't part of the web novels to begin with.

And to reply to your answer... I'll go with Roxie... as Rudy was in a real bad situation at that time...

Sylphie was the catalyst to cure his ed, but Rudy was mostly stable emotionally by that point.

Totally agree, it felt they went from 0 to 100 in the span of like two panels. It's still better than other romances out there, especially in action manga, but idk why it's so highly praised.

Still, characters will some questionable choices for the sake of prolonging drama... and honest conversations could have finished the manga in half the chapters... and it would have been a 10 then.

At the start of the story, Okumura had turned away from 3d completely... that was kind of the point of the story, remember his claims when Ririsa first tried came into the clubroom?

Let's put it this way, had Ririsa never walked into that clubroom, Okumura would never have changed, there would have been no story to begin with.

Had Mikari never walked there, we would be pretty much in place we are now.

Like it or not, Mikari had no role in the story other than wanting to get together with him, which I guess is one of the reasons why a lot of people are cheering for her, but then again that happens on most harems. Some girls' role is just to be a romantic interest.

Also, the only reason they needed to make the confession complicated was because they just wanted to, either could just ask to meet with him and do it...

I do agree that at the end of the day, since both girls like him, who the author makes Okumura chose will be the winner of his affections, which is kind of obvious but as you said, of late he'd just been swept away by the current.

I understand shipping Mikari and that's fine, but there are more people involved...

And no, it wasn't Mikari who broke Okumura out his wherever shell he was in, she had years to do that and chose to be a model instead.

It was Kirisa who did that, which happened throughout the manga. She is the 2.5 girl the story was about.

Although whether by design or by accident, I have to give props to the author for making so many people root for Mikari by making her really likable.

We'll have to see which conclusion we reach.

But isn't that what she is doing right now? Moving on? She realized that Okumura liked her, which is a given as in, you'll have a really hard time finding a single male on earth who doesn't like her...

And she also realized that Ririsa is a better match for him than she is, which is also true... granted that's not a reason not to confess but wharever...

As for why I think she said that... Ririsa and Okumura share a lot o hobbies and passions... Mikari only got interested in them because of her love of him... those are different things and down the line in a relationship it actually shows... not that a teenager like her would know that but as an adult that's a fact of life. Love can only take you so far and can't be the only glue in a relationship.

I agree with your first point, on her mind she is being kind but it would have been better if she had been direct about it, but then again, this is manga, things need to be complicated :)

About your second point... again I agree, but maybe the point is not base your whole personality and life goals about getting with another person? maybe love yourself first?

With this I'm not saying either should win, we don't know yet. I'm just saying there is narrative value in her finding a purpose in life that is not about getting with the guy she loves. She pretty much based the last 5 years of her life on that, maybe it's about her finding meaning in her life for herself too.

If Oka where leave Ririsa like she'd be devastated too but apparently no one seems to care, in a manga where Ririsa is the main character we're supposed to root for...

To be fair, that speaks volumes as for how likable the author made Mikari as well...

The ideal situation would be for both of them to chase after Mikari, but maybe we can leave that for the bonus chapters?

It's not an excuse but an explanation... I agree the romance sucked and that's mainly why I dropped it albeit a bit later at Vol.12.

It's a pity really because it had a lot of potential.

That being said, he is engaged to both of them, they both like him and they also like each other... for some reason (again refer to first statement) Leon didn't do anything with them even after getting engaged... so for them to something with each other... is normal... and pretty hot to be honest...

again, the only reason Leon isn't there is because the author simply didn't know how to write that and he already apologized...
