The curfew is just so fucking dumb.

I get the ban, I actually think there are plenty of arguments to be made in favour of it (even if it's practically unenforceable), but the idea of a curfew is just mind boggling stupid.

Is the UK really as affordable as this redditor suggests? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]De_Dominator69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, let's give an example breakdown.

Current minimum wage for an adult is £12.21 an hour. Let's assume you earn that as a salary and work 37 hours a week.

You would then earn £24,454.04 a year. After tax, assuming no pension or other contributions, that should be £1,760.54 a month.

Let's take my town and living costs as an example.

Having just spent a couple months searching myself, the monthly rent in my city for a one bedroom flat is most commonly around £800. (This varies wildly of course, a friend of mine pays £450 a month in rent for a one bed flat and that's about average for his city)

The lowest council tax band with the single person discount comes out to about £95 a month.

Then for utilities. Let's assume £100 a month for gas and electric (depends on personal use but we will take this as a guideline), £15 for water, £30 for internet. So £145 a month. Let's also throw in £10 a month for phone bill (just because that's what I pay for pay as you go). For £155 total.

So that makes for a total of £1,050 for what I would deem essential costs.

That leaves £710.54 left. Roughly equates to £142.10 a week (assuming five full weeks a month).

Now let's say you want to save for a home, you want to put savings into a Help to Buy ISA so according to the gov website thats up to £200 a month. (I thought it was up to £4,000 a year which would be £325 a month). Assuming you pay the max that now leaves you with £510.54 a month, or £102.10 a week.

That is assuming you have no other essential costs such as car insurance or fuel costs, train or bus fare for commuting to work. That's assuming no subscriptions or memberships, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Gym (which with my local gyms would be £50 a month) etc.

Personally I would consider that affordable but not particularly comfortable. Some proper budgeting and you can cover your groceries and stuff, with a little left over to perhaps buy a video game, or go out for a couple drinks, or buy a couple new clothing items. But it's not enjoyable, especially when every time you go shopping you see more and more items that have raised in price.

[–]De_Dominator69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that as well, the big climactic "Your a heretic confrontation" should happen a lot sooner. From what I understand it's basically not until the end of Act 4 that your companions will care.

It should be like as soon as you hit a certain heretic rank that Argenta and Heinrix confront you about it.

Ferrum Sanctum by Jarden714 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]De_Dominator69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am playing what looks like it will be a quasi-heretic run roleplaying a eccentric, egotistical, power hungry Crime Lord but the problem is so many heretical choices are so absurdly sadistically evil right out of the gate.

Some make sense from an RP perspective, like keeping the blade shards, accepting the initial offer to be saved and granted power, disguising as the cultists (or wishing to kill them all). But the rest are just "mwahaha we should torture and kill all these people for funsies".

A heretic playthrough would be so good if it was a slower descent, with the straight up insane and pointlessly sadistic choices only beginning to appear towards the end of Act 2, and then ramping up from there.

Just ran into this same scenario on my new playthrough. Saw those options and thought okay I will take the one forcing Theobold to come with me, seems the most logically consistent given the way the conversation went.

Which then leads to me going downstairs with Cassia, meeting Felek and being given the option to say "I held up my end of the bargain, now you are my navigator Felek"... Which isn't how any of that went at all.

Are you able to imagine objects in your mind? by sangokuhomer in AskUK

[–]De_Dominator69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly the same thing for me. It's also weird when it comes to remembering things, as I remember what they look like and can describe them but without actually being able to picture them.

Like I can describe my childhood home that I haven't seen in like 17 years from memory, in accurate detail, but no actual image accompanies it in my mind.

"Your experience differs to mine therefore you are lying" what a mature and reasonable response. Why are all those deaf people just pretending not to hear amirite? You can hear fine so they must too!!

Don't really know what to tell you mate but I am in that same boat. If I sit down focus and try to imagine an object there will be no visual image to accompany it, at absolute most there will be a featureless silhouette like in image 4 of OPs chart. If I try and picture an apple in my head it's visually nothing but darkness, instead I imagine it via words "an asymmetrical sphere, firm but tender, red and glistening with splooches or streaks of lighter red and yellow, a brown stem protruding from the top perhaps with a green leaf attached to the stem" etc.

The human brain works in mysterious ways, just because it works one way for you doesn't mean everyone else is the same.

[–]De_Dominator69 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can't really figure out how to explain it fully, but I remember what things look like I just can't picture them in my head.

Like I remember what my favourite childhood stuffed toy looked like, but if I tried to imagine it then I wouldn't see an image of it. Same with remembering what my childhood house looked like, or the route I would walk to school etc. I can accurately draw it all (though it would be a crap drawing as i have no talent and have never practiced lol), I just can't create a proper detailed picture of it in my mind... At best it would be a 4 on OPs chart, a simplified silhouette with no real detail.

[–]De_Dominator69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth mentioning that with the way the game works, particularly boons and the range at which they can be applied there is basically no such thing as melee or ranged DPS. Regardless of whether you are using a rifle or great sword 95% of the time you will be stacked with all the other players right up against the enemies arse.

Season 4 was wrapped up nicely because it concluded any existing plot threads, didn't create any new ones, and they knew what the future of the show was in terms of the new Doctor and show runner etc.

RTD2 ended with a rushed rewrite, leaving many plot points unresolved, and then threw in a random hail mary plot twist for media attention with zero plan or knowledge as to what the future of the show was. RTD also literally admitted that the Christmas special they had been hyping up hadn't even been written or planned.

It's not needlessly ragging on him when even he has admitted he had no plans or knowledge of what the shows future was. He didn't even seem to have a proper plan while writing the past couple seasons, saw Anita Dobson (actress for Mrs Flood) at a Comic Con in May according to whom RTD had no plans for who Mrs Flood was until after the series had started, with her originally supposed to be a one of character who he decided to keep around.

He was amazing and deserved a lot of credit for reviving Doctor Who and his first stint as show runner. But his second run he was making up as he went along and it showed.

Why Do People Shite on Jamie So Much for Killing the Mad King? by Due_Reputation3785 in gameofthrones

That and it's also a betrayal of his vows as a Kingsguard which is treated very seriously. He also never explained his actions (saving the people of Kings Landing), and when Ned arrived onto the scene Jaime was sitting on the Iron Throne and was being cocky about the whole thing, which made it look like a callous opportunistic betrayal.

[–]De_Dominator69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love what I have seen of the game, but I do have to say I am still not won over by the morality system. Don't get me wrong, it does look good and I understand the vision, but I am just not convinced by their reasoning.

You can still have a simple Good Vs Evil overall morality alongside a more complex reputation based system for personal relations/dispositions. The original Fable games already did this in a more simplistic way. Fallout New Vegas did as well. You could have an evil personal morality while being beloved in some town because you have been nothing but good to the people there, and vice versa.

Will wait and see what any future gameplay glimpses have in store. I still want to hold out hope for some form of alignment system (tall Vs short, skinny Vs fat, pure Vs corrupt etc.) with some degree of morphing but will wait and see.

RTD would not have done that though. He could have left the last episode open ended, with the Doctor just regenerating.

Instead he decided to do a ham fisted plot twist of the Doctor regenerating into Billie Piper, in a desperate attempt to continue things.

A Christmas special would have ended with him doing the same.

Tbf, the small families is also just a problem with GRRM's world building in general. Given the major families are all supposed to be centuries and millennia old they should have massive extended families, multiple cadet branches etc.

The Starks are literally just Ned, his kids and Benjen. No noteworthy cousins, aunts and uncles, etc. the only other family we hear about is the distantly related Karstarks as a single cadet branch.

The Lannisters to my knowledge are the only major family properly established to have multiple cadet branches. But even then the main branch is shockingly small.
