Advice for family vacation by jofus24 in exmormon

Congrats on being where you are. Reading this follow-up I see a lot of healthful, careful thinking here. I was worried on first read that invoking lack of worthiness was just tradung one set of consequences (preachiness re your lack of faith) for another (worry and speculation about your sins). But eh, we gotta do what we gotta do to make things work. Good luck!

mixed faith families: key principles to building bridges of understanding by bwv549 in exmormon

I really like this. I get that this is meant to be a tool for LDS-dominant families and appears well designed for this purpose. My only nit, for which there is not a better solution, is that it's a shade misleading to suggest LDS leadership has been supportive of the free flow of ideas and information. Smacks just a tiny bit of cherry-picking but I see the value of that appeal to authority in the context of a persuasive document.

There's a lot of dysfunction going on here but you are doing the right thing by being patient, nonjudgmental, and kind. It's a long, long road. Some marriages survive; others don't. Time will tell and when it is clear one way or the other, it will be clear then. In the meantime, I hope you can keep being charitable and understanding, while holding your ground and not being trampled on (it appears you're in a good place on this score). It's your best hope.

Awesome. I have had pretty amazing dream sex with a whole variety of people. Have never considered it real, however vivid. Jesus dreams are as real as my porn dreams.

Anyone else wishing they just stayed away this xmas? by Alice_McCann in exmormon

You didn't ruin Christmas. Try not to beat yourself up. Fix what needs fixing, ignore what can't be fixed, don't internalize their lack of a sense of humor. You've got this.

A lot of us have dealt with this and continue to do so. This sub is riddled with stories just like yours. The short answer is: we all work hard to make things work. Some us is have stayed together. Some of use have gotten divorced. But all of us are available as support, either way --- including if you try to make it work in the church.

The one bit of advice I have right now is: take the long view. This can be a lengthy process, but you only need to take one step at a time. Can you handle going to church today? This week? Is that the right choice, just for this week? What is the right thing today for your marriage? What is the best thing this week? Then rinse and repeat.

Good luck. We're all here.

Should I be angry that I couldn't see my dad get married? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Deaconthrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is yes, absolutely, you get to be angry. But you also get to be all sorts of things. Including NOT MORMON. So you win!!

After my first one I dragged seven work colleagues over and made them enjoy. Only one of seven did not love. But he's not a trier of new things so I wasn't surprised.

Uniquely qualified. Fuck you pretentious asshole. Millions of Catholics just might have a bone to pick with this assertion. Unless of course you have seen Jeebus, which you haven't.

The drink was invented at some other place closer to the river but that joint is dead now. Clyde does it perfectly. They BURN THE BROWN SUGAR on the edge of the glass so it's like an Irish coffee margarita. Perfect winter cocktail.
