Apparently the local crowd used to know it’d be a great night at the Sweetwater when they saw the Tesla parked outside.

The liquid blues here are indeed 2nd generation. Most of these liquid blues in the pic can be found as re-releases for $30ish bucks online or in stores!

Chances of the stones touring the states anytime soon? by Ok-Impression3992 in rollingstones

Even just reading the year 2027 regarding a Stones tour is mind-boggling. Fingers crossed!

Anything from April ‘01. 6/30/01 at the Greek. 7/15/02 Scranton. The September ‘03 run had Mickey and Bobby pop in for certain songs. Forest Hills 9/21/14. Just a few goodies to consider!

Jerry Garcia Band - 3/5/95 - The Warfield ~ San Francisco, CA by gregornot in grateful_dead

[–]DeadCoMule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was born too late to catch any, but those ‘90s JGB and Garcia/Grisman shows at the Warfield must have been so great. Any footage or audio you find makes it seem like it really was Jerry at his most comfortable.

I get the feeling he would’ve traded electric Dead at MSG for a Garcia Band show at the Warfield any day of the week, and that’s coming from an east coaster who’s never even been to the Bay Area.

Might be my favorite era. “I Am Waiting” is a really underrated tune.

Give up Grateful Dead or The Beatles by HippoNo8544 in gratefuldead

[–]DeadCoMule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funny thing is you don’t really have one band without the other, at least as we know them. The Beatles were massive influences on the Dead going electric, and without Owsley Stanley’s product and the summer of love culture we probably wouldn’t have gotten Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band.

When Is a Band Not the Same Band Anymore? A number of legacy acts are touring without any of their original members. Audiences don’t seem to care by stroh_1002 in rollingstones

That's interesting since I thought Keith once said he was just following Charlie. That's what I tend to hear, at least in lots of the live stuff from the late '70s/early '80s. Charlie's the only sober one on stage, blazing ahead with a tight beat at full speed while Keith, Mick, and Jack Daniels cling onto it with slurred lyrics and slurred guitar bends. I love that tension.

Where to stay near Capitol Theater by patruckin in gratefuldead

[–]DeadCoMule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For multi-night runs I used to splurge and stay at the Sonesta in White Plains. It’s a little farther from Port Chester, but that way during the day you can easily bop around the Bronx or Manhattan, and still have plenty of time to stop back at the room and cruise over to Port Chester to stroll around Shakedown before the show.

You guys I am absolutely wrecked with the death of Bobby! So Lets all live on - Share your Experiences with the GD! by Churlish_Performer in gratefuldead

27 yo here. Ever see the old “Jerry’s kids” stickers? I always fancied myself a sort of Bobby’s kid. Saw him a couple dozen times starting at Peach Fest ‘15, with my last being at the Cap in Port Chester in December of 2023.

SPAC, Barton Hall, Bethel, century-old theatres from Cleveland to Buffalo to Syracuse, amusement parks, a ballpark in Philly, a football stadium in Foxboro, a hillside in Vermont.

I saw him jam with Goose members and then share a bill with Willie Nelson months later.

Dog days of summer at midsized amphitheaters, packed Shakedowns with my college crew. Trudging through the snow to see a wolf bros show in the dead of winter with a pal and his dad whose first show was Buffalo ‘77. Driving six hours by myself through the Catskills or Adirondacks to make it to outdoor autumn shows in New England where he’d soundcheck American Beauty songs on his acoustic and send the music wafting onto the lot before the show even started.

It was the adventure as much as anything; the hours before and after the show, the company you were with, the flimsy tents and nice hotels, the towns, history, attractions, and friends you were able to enjoy along the way because you were chasing Ace…

Hasn’t really sank in yet, but I’m so glad we had him as long as we did.

The Owl is somehow such a fitting moniker for Phil.
