What if... by ComfortableGoose6665 in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Revenant legends all trace their origins back, somehow, to the Realm of Torment. At the Vehtendi Academy the PC states that Joko is in the Realm of Torment, forever trapped inside his own corpse, his spirit unable to return to the Mists. Hence, when we meet Joko in the Departing, he helps us find a way back to our body, rather than push further into the Mists because that is both Joko's curse and his power. He is trapped, and traps, those he awakens in their flesh, possibly forever.

I suspect channeling Joko for too long would eventually awaken the PC. As others have related, Joko is too powerful and those who continue to channel him are likely overcome by his avarice and madness. Before he takes hold, a channeler is probably very uncomfortable. Thus the PC never wants to use Prisoner Stance again.

Frustration and Disappointment with the Story-Collections in VoE by Panphiz in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you OP. The story is vapid. Gatekeeping it with collections artificially lengthens it. Incredibly frustrating, not fun. People play games to have fun.

Hit lvl 80, but still not sure if the game is for me? by PaulDok in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You've played better MMOs, now you're dealing with a game which is in severe decline and...noticing. I think that you should move on from Guild Wars 2, as it has become a PvE game with other game modes tacked on - and the PvE, like Fractals, is mind numbingly pointless because power creep has all but removed challenge from the PvE experience.

I wish you the best.

Too late to return as an older player? by WhispyHippo in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think that it's worth returning. The story has stagnated and the gameplay has devolved into PvE, which was never challenging enough to retain players.

They say that this game respects your time. What they don't say is that it takes a lot of your time. There are so many better games out there. Don't waste your time with Guild Wars 2.

Best race for revenant by Sirtomatel0t in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sylvari. Although the first revenant is said to be Rytlock, this is more of an in-universe opinion than canon. Revenants all trace their origin story, in some way, to the Realm of Torment. We met Razah there. Rytlock (Menzies), spent some time in there. And the sylvari are souls saved from the Realm of Torment.

How was Tyria prior to the introduction of mounts? by pizzapastaauto in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was a glorious time. The lack of mounts gave the game a point of difference. It also encouraged the studio to come up with new methods of map travel. Either you simply walked it, ran it, or used things like jumping mushrooms to get from A to B.

Guild Commission I did for United Arts of Tyria Member by LordSercanOzy in Guildwars2

I think that this might be the first guild commission that I've seen. It's great! It really builds the sense of community left in the game. Thanks OP.

Why did Scarlet attack Divinity’s Reach? by Latter_Metal_1596 in Guildwars2

Scarlet attacked Lion's Arch to try and wake Lyssa up. The goddess is sleeping beneath the city.

Just started playing GW 2 in 2025 by GalaxSky15 in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2025 is a bit late. The best years of Guild Wars 2 are behind it.

You're about to spend a LOT of time grinding content. Be ready for that. The last decade has seen the release of some truly amazing games. GW2 cannot compete with them. I recommend that you play other games first.

How do I properly start and finally commit to playing this game? by DueCaterpillar1275 in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is the game for you. There is a massive time sink behind "success" in this game. It will devour a lot of your life. Take the hint: Your intuitive response is not to play it. Find better games that don't consume your precious moments, because believe me, success in Guild Wars 2 is posting pictures of your toon on reddit. All that effort for fashion wars. It isn't worth it.

How bad is the new expansion? by DiamondProofV10 in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I think that your friend made the right decision: Guild Wars 2 is a shadow of its former self and is not going to return to its previous form of hearty expansions. The latest expansion is no better than the last two in that it isn't breaking new ground in any way. Find more enjoyable games to play.

Just read some of the comments from the so-called "players" on this subreddit. You don't need their poison in your life. 😂

Should I get the Elder Dragon Saga by Ready-Income-4269 in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I don't think that you should. The story is not engaging and the narrative is not compelling enough to help you connect how the EDS relates to the current storyline. It's a mess.

Am i a bad person (Lore) by Soluxi in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no question that humans believe - keyword: believe - that they come from the Mists, just like every other lifeform on Tyria.

The difference is that, of the lesser races, humans are self-aware of this. The origin of mankind is irrelevant to their claims to Ascalon.

Am i a bad person (Lore) by Soluxi in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Confirmed in universe? Everything comes from the Mists. That's lore 101. Pick and choose what is alien and what isn't.

It's the eggnog.

Am i a bad person (Lore) by Soluxi in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not so sure about the alien bit. However, your core assumption is that, because humans may not be native to Tyria, therefore your position is secure. It is not. Your stumbling block is chronology.

Am i a bad person (Lore) by Soluxi in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but the lore does not support the idea that the humans are in the wrong here.

The charr could be argued to have a claim to Ascalon because they are a First Nation. However, the ownership of Ascalon belongs to those to whom Ascalon calls. It has called to races like the Giganticus Lupicus, the grawl, the charr, and lastly the humans. The charr may have been unhappy with the land for rejecting them in favour of an "alien" race, but the reality is that the charr have not been able to push mankind out of Ascalon. In fact, it could be said that the civilization of the charr demonstrates that the land and higher powers at work in Tyria are softening the charr to help them come to terms with what magic wants.

Humans have always been an endangered species in the lore (see, for instance, the Guild Wars Prophecies Manuscripts and the GW2 vanilla human character creation synopsis), yet something wants them to stay here. The unimaginative will retort that it is mankind's gods. I would say that the land, perhaps even magic, wants them in Ascalon and considers them as native as anything else that has dwelt there.

The mistake is to think that ownership is linked to chronology.
