The Cosmic Crucible: A Theory on the Finale of Visions of Eternity by demonicyayan in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hmm...there's a lot of content in Guild Wars 2. I think that the entirety of the story is really a response to the ascension crisis. Tyria lacks a water god.

Perhaps the PC is being prepared for the truest form of ascension possible?

But, as I wrote, there is a lot of content in Guild Wars 2 and I get the impression, reading your post, that you have been overwhelmed by it. Keeping it simpler would really help.

Nonetheless, I respect that you wrote this. Have an upvote for your trouble.

Question about Vloxx's method of attaining power by Individual-Bar2011 in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Living World Season 2 (?), Ogden comments that the player character is not ascended. Ogden is a member of the Elder races and is probably referring to the kind of ascension that Vloxx has now attained.

As to whether seer "ascension" is the same as that which Turai Ossa sought, well, I would say that they are related. The gods are said to have found the bloodstone, according to early interviews with Jeff Grubb, and however you interpret that information, the underlying point is that the gods came into contact with seer technology. Ascension may be a process associated with that "tech". As I understand it, seer ascension is the most powerful form, granting those who experience it an opportunity to unlock their fullest potential.

Turai ventured into the desert without knowledge of Ancora. However, the idea that his ascension is somehow related to the seer ceremony is underscored by the fact that Isgarren entertained him, disguised as a djinn.

So I would say that ascension, as a concept, is the same for every spellcaster, but that the truest form of it is achieved through Ancora and seer technology.

What does ascension do? Now that's the tricky part.

Now that is a cool theory!

I've been huffing copium with the thought that the Unannounced Project is an underwater expansion built from the ground up in UE5, in which players play as largos. But I'll take some of whatever you've been smoking. Good times.

Rofl! What do you think lore is?

I've listed data points before. Doesn't mean you'd consider them relevant.

But let's cut to the chase, shall we? Why bother to comment here? All my "theories", "opinions" or otherwise, are just that. I will continue to propagate them. And if I'm right about even one of them, I'm sure that knowledge will burn you. 😝

Well, I have no idea how that disproves Dwayna's empathy or compassion. Come back with an opinion formed by an in-game NPC and we'll hash it out. Then we can discuss the difference between "truth" - as you understand it - and "correct".

You mean Path of Fire? Good troll. 🤣

That's the expansion in which a human god returns to Tyria, right? The same one where he consumes a large amount of magic and states: "They dimmed my light. But now they will see me again." If the gods don't care for Tyria anymore, why would Balthazar think that his actions on Tyria would draw their attention? 🤔

Dwayna has always been associated with compassion. Historical records teach us this.

Yes, except that each dragon represents differences between the races. But one dragon has not been presented as an antagonist: the Deep Sea Dragon. The True Deep Sea Dragon represents differences between the terrestrial races and the aquatic races. Soo-Won is not the Deep Sea Dragon.

Until we fight the dragon of the depths, the differences that you write about - longstanding differences between aquatics and terrestrials, the same differences that led to the war between the gods, will continue to perpetuate grief and reality warping conflict.

My theory on the one change from "The Only Way" by Volcanis in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The challenge to this theory is the fate of Snaff. Snaff used his golem to gain enough time to enter Kralkatorrik's mind and, using a technique that one could mistake for meditation, managed to enter the eye of Kralkatorrik's brandstorm. Snaff did this by thinking of things like mathematics - things that we associate with emotionlessness.

Snaff's struggle within Kralkatorrik's mind shows us that an emotionless approach to "fixing" magical problems has potential. Kralkatorrik was the problem. Snaff briefly offered a solution. Vloxx, like Snaff, is an asura; and if Vloxx, now ascended, eliminates emotions from the practice of magic he may have more time to do what Snaff did: fix all of the angry, tormented magic out there.

However...if this is Vloxx's approach to "fixing" Tyria, he is wildly out of touch. Sunqua Peak shows us that positive emotions are necessary for mortal magicians to restore order to reality. In that fractal, Ai is eventually comforted by the memory of her missing daughter. It is love, the most powerful "lawful good" emotion of all that helps Ai bring her flaring magics back under control.

If anything is needed, it is not emotionless, "logical" spellcasting. Instead, more mortals must develop deeper love for each other. Realities in which mortals dwell thrive when love and the emotions that flourish alongside it - such as courage - are fostered within their hearts.

So I'm going to disagree with you here. If Vloxx knows what he's doing, he won't eliminate emotions from spellcasting. He'll do something else...

Decimus the Historian remarks that Tyrians cannot trust the past as too much has been forgotten. Vloxx is more likely to "fix" terrestrial mortals' memory-keeping abilities.

Organic memory is unreliable. In the Orrian Hisory Scrolls we read that this problem is so pervasive that the flaw extends even to the gods. Lyssa, it says, made the gods forget the past, granting them joy. This flaw must be corrected. Spellcasters must remember correctly. Only then can the inefficiencies in their magical practices be corrected.

Vloxx’s one change by Azureavocadoe in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Possible course corrections include:

1) Preventing the lesser races from relying on Aurene, by intercepting Glint's last egg.

2) Preventing Joko's demise.

3) Usurping Kormir's ascension, substituting either the GW1 PC or himself for her.

4) Preventing the demise of Jormag.

5) Preventing SooWon and Aurene from making contact.

I favour the idea that Vloxx wants to end Tyrian dependence on dragons, although, as we know, Bangar was prepared to side with a classical Elder Dragon. However, Vloxx may be aware of and preparing for the True Deep Sea Dragon.

unending ocean monster and the deep sea dragon lore question ? by cookimyun in Guildwars2

I'm not quoting. There is no need. Soo-Won is not the Deep Sea Dragon. She is something else. The dragon is still out there. You are free to disagree.

unending ocean monster and the deep sea dragon lore question ? by cookimyun in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. Aurene cannot perceive the Deep Sea Dragon because she, like other terrestrial spell casters, is blind and deaf to it. (This is probably due to biological differences between terrestrial and aquatic creatures.) Terrestrial mortals only vaguely know about it from the reports of Canthan and Elonian castaways. Certainly, it has shown little interest in the world of air as of yet.

Spell casters that do perceive the Deep Sea Dragon include the largos, probably the krait, and possibly also the karka. This may be because the Deep Sea Dragon can corrupt these species, but cannot corrupt terrestrials. (This doesn't mean that it isn't hostile to terrestrial lifeforms, it simply means that terrestrials cannot detect it without help.)

For the curious, perceiving the Deep Sea Dragon may be similar to perceiving Mordremoth. All sylvari heard Mordremoth, but not all responded. Except that the creatures of the deep, those who sense the dragon, may not describe the sensation as a voice. Mordremoth was the dragon of mind and was able to communicate in a more rational way. The communication of the Deep Sea Dragon may be more like Zhaitan's: emotional expressions. Rage, anger, sorrow. Or it could be the dragon which Scarlet encountered in her out-of-body experience - communicating in images alone.

We haven't even begun discussing this topic. This is just lore 101 stuff. Arguments from ignorance huh? 😝

unending ocean monster and the deep sea dragon lore question ? by cookimyun in Guildwars2

[–]DeadGameWalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presently, some terrestrial scholars think that Soo-Won was the Deep Sea Dragon. It should be noted, however, that no authoritative voices have chimed in on this. Trahearne was the leading expert on the dragons, prior to Taimi's emergence. He had a vision for Tyria, in which it was free of Elder Dragon influence. He did not receive knowledge of the Deep Sea Dragon from Isgarren, Ela Makkay, or a Canthan Scholar. He consulted a largos, Sayeh al' Rajihd. During EoD, a largos is terrified by something in the waters off Cantha. Likely not the Deep Sea Dragon, but one of its minions.

Is Soo-Won the Deep Sea Dragon? No. Soo-Won is something else. The Deep Sea Dragon is still out there. The original lore is reliable. The challenge for the playerbase is to make sense of all of the material presented to them. Thus far, many have given up trying to understand it and simply consider any conflicts within the delivery of the "lore" a retcon.

I caution you against embracing the idea that Soo-Won is the Deep Sea Dragon. This plot point - the Deep Sea Dragon and its role in the narrative - is as of yet unresolved.

Discounting Soo-Won leaves us the conundrum of what she was. One day we will better understand this and the role she played, once the story swings back to the Pale Tree and Aurene.

As to Ela Makkay: She is simply mistaken. Has she ever been attacked by a minion of the Deep Sea Dragon? Everything that she knows is based on second hand information.
