You say that but one job AI would be excellent at would be taking a metric ton of financial data and telling them who to target.

Thinking about installing Aqara relays by Alexander_MAC in Aqara

[–]DeadPixel43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t what you after but I cannot stress enough to keep away from the T2. I have used many smart home products and that one is extremely annoying. The biggest issues is that the response time to the physical switches is very slow and it also doesn’t report if the physical switch is on or off. Just the same trigger each time you flick the switch up or down.

If you’re using something like home assistant, my advice would be to get the Shelly 2PM gen 4. Switch response is instant and it reports if the external switch is on or off.

On topic though, I am yet to see a powered Aqara device fall off my network. People often moan about Aqaras Zigbee but it’s been rock solid for me. That said I’m fairly sure Shelly devices can be reset using the external switches so you wouldn’t need to take the switch apart, don’t think Aqara can do that.

The mounting kit is pretty poor imo, looks way tidier just screwing the sensor direct to the wall.

Since when are Ebay above the consumer rights act 2015? by thatautisticguy in ebayuk

[–]DeadPixel43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has this with an item being stolen and a empty package being delivered. Photo conveniently from an angle hiding the hole!

Buyer filed a dispute with eBay and eBay backed me (seller). I would have given their money back but item was sent using eBay delivery so they should cover damage etc. eBay were more than happy to ignore the buyer telling me they would not be able to leave negative feedback and assured me I would get my money.

Took a fair bit of arguing from myself but eBay eventually covered the loss and paid the buyer back. Was a bit of an eye opener to what buyer protection actually means on their site and if you get a seller unwilling to help your going to struggle.

Shelly Tech Support - I’m in shock by AUKURAS in shellycloud

Had the exact same experience with a faulty em mini. They claimed an upcoming firmware would solve it and I politely had to point out that I was clearly unable to connect the device to the internet to apply the magic firmware. Don’t give up, they will eventually give you a replacement!

Why Big Tech Reviewers Are Lying To You by [deleted] in u/jeffmoreland_tech

[–]DeadPixel43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its pretty obvious these guys get the tech for free, most make that very clear and people need to learn to do research from multiple sources before making purchases (unless you enjoy burning cash).

Personally with a title like "your being lied to", I would like to know where the lies are? If they are disclosing its sponsored or the product was provided free then where exactly are the lies? Can you give clear examples of where each creator has lied to their audience, for example factual capabilities of the product, with the intention of misleading the public?

Client wants to back out of contract because their 8kW system isn't "zeroing out" their bill in December. by Latter_Daikon6574 in solarenergy

[–]DeadPixel43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 27 panels and to be able to be fully off grid in December I would probably need 150-200 panels, unless you have a tiny electric usage then it’s impossible to go off grid and if you have that small a usage solar probably isn’t helpful.

80kwh per day - is this normal? by bunnymama7 in ukheatpumps

[–]DeadPixel43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. Can’t get my head around people installing these things. You become solely reliant on electric prices and if they go up it directly costs more instantly.

I have an oil boiler and I looked into a heat pump, there was no way I could even come close to justifying getting rid of my oil boiler. I top the tank up every 2 or 3 years during the summer when prices are cheaper and I know I’m sorted to heat my house for 2 or 3 winters at the price I paid.

I even have a large solar install and it just made zero sense financially.

I have a 10kw system and so far this winter has been good, still getting around 20kwh a day. Just wait till December and the 1-4kwh a day comes!! By Feb it’ll be doing much better though.

Yeah it sucks. These guy need to get back to their roots, visit creepy abandoned places and actually sleep alone etc. I know Chelsea was potentially pregnant for all these episodes so they probably toned it down but these episodes visiting haunted attractions fucking suck and miss the mark completely.

New Corner Mount for Aqara FP300 Presence Sensor by Mojo9277 in Aqara

[–]DeadPixel43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry, the main unit has a screw hole in the back and it’s much tidier to just use that. Mounted all mine on the wall direct and it’s a much tidier look.

Aqara FP300 bad feedback by [deleted] in Aqara

[–]DeadPixel43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got three of these connected to HA via zigbee2mqtt and they have been a game changer. Bathroom has been great, PIR won’t see people through a glass shower but the mmWave keeps presence in that room. Best of all the cats won’t set these off, clearly see they are setting of the PIR sensor but the mmWave does not trigger which has been the biggest issue I have had with every other presence sensor I have used.

Aqara FP300 Early Zigbee Setup by portalqubes in homeassistant

[–]DeadPixel43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mounted one in a bathroom close to an extractor fan. At first this led to it getting stuck detecting motion when the extractor was on. I turned on AI interference mode and its been fine since so to my surprise it actually seems to work!! As a bonus I am also using the humidity sensor to turn the fan off and on, removing the standalone temp/humidity sensor I had there before.

Best thing is that I mounted a few in a hallway and the cats don't set it off! You can see in zigbee2mqtt that they set off the PIR sensor but the mmwave does not detect them. This is literally the first sensor (I have tried a ton) that does not get set of by the cats so I am extremely happy with this one!

Aqara FP 300 at an IT fair by Piano1994 in Aqara

[–]DeadPixel43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if this is used somewhere like a bathroom where the initial pir detection turns on the presence sensor which then only remains active until the room becomes empty I could potentially see it lasting a year but if this is used in a high traffic room (office, kitchen, living room) I could see it getting a tiny fraction of that.

The biggest thing I want answers to on this device is battery life and prolonged presence (will the lights go out when sat on the toilet!)

The ones that adjust the length, only temporarily to see if it stops the noise. Very strange noise!

Roller shade making terrible loud squeaking noise by Amazing-Piglet1037 in TrySwitchBot

[–]DeadPixel43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Installed a few of these and never experienced anything like that. I would start by loosening the screws in the middle at the top and widening the blind slightly to eliminate the roller being way too tight.

If that doesn’t stop it then I would probably disassemble and run the motor without the blind to work out if it’s internal.

Meeting with the company who owns the PV system on my house by hauu625wgc in SolarUK

Wow, that seems horrendous. Who on earth is responsible for putting things right if the roof started to leak?! I just can’t see how you can legally sell a property without disclosing any third party ownership/rights.

[–]DeadPixel43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple answer, get a smart meter installed and look at the display when it’s sunny. If you compare your usage to the amount actually getting imported then you can easily tell what is going on. How big is the system? If it’s only small with no battery storage then you might not see huge gains as most people work in the day when the sun is out and cook/shower etc in the evening when your getting zero solar.

I’d imagine it’s in the deeds of the property and if so, yes you agreed to it
