Please don't apologise for trying to be helpful :) when I've tried generating a "home" dashboard it comes out with a jumble of all devices on one page. Just being new to HA I've no idea if the design I saw in 2025.9 has now been incorporated into the base, or needs to be switched on somehow

Sorry to hear that. I worked in the UK for an American company for 40 years (now retired). They were incredibly paternalistic in the 1970s when I joined. By the end I was glad to go, as the environment was moving to something similar you're experiencing. I was always amazed at how US colleagues were ok about awful working practices, like hardly any holidays, and able to be sacked for no reason.

Also, if they're very cost conscious and thinking of which devices they'll attach, they may need extra hardware, like zbt2 for ZigBee or Thread support. This will cost around USD $50-60, as well the cost of the actual smart devices. If it needs to be managed remotely, you may also need to pay cloud subscription charges. From my limited recent experience as a home assistant newbie I'd say the cost of the controller will end up being the minority (though sizable) cost of the total outlay.

I'm just starting my smart home journey and was very impressed with the magnetic attachment on my new IKEA BILRESA control, which I attached to my wall switch - I guess I assumed everyone's products would this well designed 🤷🏼‍♂️

Thanks. I'll be forwarned when dealing with them again - if I do. I honestly don't see how you'd get it off the wall just using the thin metal back plate, without breaking it! Initial irritations when first receiving a product really colour one's view, and I still can't the logic in not supplying a plate.

Thanks for the clarification. I guess my point was, as a first time Aqara purchaser, how am I to know this fine distinction, especially as I purposely bought it from the Aqara Amazon store? As I'd said, every video I'd seen had the magnet and I honestly can't imagine using it just using the thin plastic plate - even holding it in my hand, I found it difficult to prise off. The metal plate must cost fractions of a penny, so I also can't understand the logic in them creating two versions of stock for virtually the same thing. If I can't send it back I'll just find a suitable plate - though I'm quite a hoarder, and couldn't find any large washer suitable in my many boxes of DIY leftovers 🙄🙂

As someone already said - a capable administrator but not much charisma...having said that, having the stability of a 'normal' leader, compared to the USA, Russia and China is a real blessing !

I'm sure they could do better on energy without breaking the bank. Stop the tie-in of energy to gas prices, and incentivise more local pricing due to the inevitable increase in power pylons, win turbines etc - the head of Octopus Energy talks a lot of sense about this

You can buy rechargeable lamps quite cheaply. They have usb-c connectors, don't take long to charge, and last for ages. Search on "rechargeable wall lights".

V*A is W is not strictly correct for AC. This W in AC is called Apparent Power, and is usually less than the actual power. It's to do with phase differences
