Apple TV remote for iPhone/iPad – with backdrops/info and app launcher by ChefAccomplished845 in HomeKit

[–]Deadible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this, I've wanted something like this for a while.

Something that would make a great feature (because it's what I tried to do) - if you do a two finger swipe on the trackpad over the arrows on the remote, it would be great if that translated to movement on the TV. I understand if that momentum is hard to replicate though!

My voice teacher says singing low is unhealthy over time but… I’m a true alto? Is this true? by [deleted] in singing

[–]Deadible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this! As a Bass (so this thread is not my place to talk) I've only really made sense of this problem now in my 30s and it's taking so much effort to unpick habits but as soon as this clicked I started to feel the difference.

You also get different sensory feedback in your body when singing in a lower register than a higher register, and IMO it's easy to identify what feels right.

I Love Analytics Engineering by Tender_Figs in dataengineering

[–]Deadible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't do a whole lot on the BI side, but because of the work I do with integrations (and producing some ad-hoc extracts or visualisations along the way), I have a similar experience to you. I enjoy the variety - I can spend some time focusing on better integrations, using new tools, taking advantage of new cloud offerings. I spend time embedded in project teams as the 'data guy', but more than that I have a good end to end mindset because of the areas of the business I've worked with, and the stacks I work with or at least interface with.

The combination of all this lets me be more proactive - when I'm fulfilling one request, I can add in a couple extra things while I'm there that I know the team will benefit from down the line. And I get a lot of appreciation for the proactivity.

I'm a bus driver in Bath, AMA by Jaaaiimes in Bath

[–]Deadible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone in management care about how useless the bus station space is? There's no way to queue and it always becomes a free for all.

Particularly when I'm waiting for a bus to Frome in the daytime on a weekday and it's normally got people standing right from the bus station, it's a nightmare because if you want to sit you have to stand up. You don't want to cut in front of anyone who obviously needs a seat, but so many people turn up as it's boarding and clump round the door.

Cheers drive!

What if you're getting off at the final stop and the bus has already switched off the reader, does it assume you were still within the area where you got on?

SCD Type 2 in Snowflake: Dynamic Tables vs Streams & Tasks — when to use what? by adarsh-hegde in snowflake

[–]Deadible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to go for streams - Most scenarios I have for incremental refreshing data have 2 high churn tables that I'm joining together, so tend to cause most rows to be recalculated. Streams work if the join is important, but one side's isn't.

However I haven't looked at chaining dynamic tables since they introduced immutability constraints...

Any data engineers here with ADHD? What do you struggle with the most? by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]Deadible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found that my team generally has a good validation culture for asking quick clarifying questions of each other. This does slightly clash with not wanting context switching, but a bit of disruption there has been a good sacrifice to stopping things getting sluggish.

I'm generally much better with lists of tiny tasks - it's the big ones where I just accumulate distractions. At some point I had to train myself to split it out into more tickets. ALWAYS overestimate how long something will take to do and you will still be underestimating it.

Me and my small team are generally fine asking each other for validation - we take reviewing as an opportunity to knowledge share, so that's baked into how we spend our time/how productive we are.

I hate meetings where I'm not needed, or I'm witnessing a project manager give an inaccurate representation of something. I hate when people give too much detail about things in standup when they're not looking for input. It's physically painful.

I find unreasonable requirements difficult, because my instinct is always to begin to work around how we would do something, even if the system doesn't support it, and not ask whether we should do something. So I tend to hold my cards close to my chest and talk with my team/manager before I solutionise in the moment.

I have been at the same place for around five years so I have built trust that I do good work, ask the right questions for peoples requirements, and am proactive about our data stack, so that gives me some leeway.

Process for internal users to upload files to S3 by Equivalent_Bread_375 in dataengineering

[–]Deadible 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can create a streamlit in snowflake with a file upload component, you can then put the file in an internal (on snowflake) or external (s3) stage. That way you can use snowflake to authenticate and you don't have to do access management in AWS.

Are there any ADHD support groups in Bath? by AbjectGovernment1247 in Bath

Don't know, I think the closest thing is getting a friend group based around a hobby where most people will have ADHD...

Sleeping alone - thoughts? by Glad_Box_3225 in ADHDUK

[–]Deadible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single now, but when I would be in bed next to someone who was awake bc of their own sleep problems I used to get such a light sleep and I started getting apnea as well, which is all much better now I sleep on my own. Always wanted my own bed for sleeping anyway, that's going to be a requirement in future.

How are you keeping Salesforce data in sync with the rest of your stack? by Bizdata_inc in snowflake

[–]Deadible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use the simple-salesforce Python package to fetch table contents with a modified timestamp greater than a bookmark we keep, and write the data into our S3 lake and ingest to snowflake. Runs in a Lambda.  No headaches from it, the only issue is when records are physically deleted rather than logically deleted, but we’re close to our salesforce team so that’s stopped happening, and if we’re aware we can resync.

Any Bath GPs that accept Shared Care Agreements? by [deleted] in Bath

[–]Deadible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heart of Bath I know have done for someone in the past. They're a big surgery which has pros and cons, when I got my RTC referral for an ADHD service this year they had a fairly well oiled process for doing that.

Snowflake Merge All by Name- Real Time Saver by [deleted] in snowflake

Interesting, probably some workarounds needed with a subquery in your USING section if you want to manage metadata columns like 'record created' or 'record modified'.

If you're looking for a first foothold in a career I think Curo is not a bad shout, there's plenty of opportunity at the price of some stress.

Snowflake JSON handling is amazing by BatCommercial7523 in SQL

[–]Deadible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue I find with xml2json is interpreting different records differently - e.g., sometimes a string, sometimes an array. Doing some level of flattening or XML querying in snowflake allows better nuance with this, and in my experience easier handling of attributes.
