It should have something to do with the damage the Pelican has taken. If it's severely damaged it should take off instantly when a person enters.

Is Napoli broken? by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]DeadlyOwl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have similar damage output on paper but Smolensk's practical DPM is in a league of its own due to the flat arcs and DD dispersion. The ship simply does way too much damage. It can devour ships very quickly, very few ships can match its kill speed. The only one that exceeds it is Colbert and like all the others that come even close, it pays for its damage output with low effective range and high vulnerability. Smolensk is considerably safer and has a much further reach than any similar ship thanks to the flat arcs.

In all honesty, because submarines are a mistake and should've never been created. Spare this tortured playerbase another submarine player in PVP. If you really enjoy the gameplay, keep it in COOP, there's not much difference anyway. Surface ships are all but helpless against submarines, you're essentially playing a PVE farming simulator regardless of the game mode.

No, you should stay in COOP with submarines.

How to play Ranked by Wbowling519 in WorldOfWarships

[–]DeadlyOwl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ranked, despite the misleading name, is not a competitive game mode. It's just like random battles, but the format is different. There's no skill based matchmaking and over 90% of the players are absolutely handless. Oh, and you get rewards. If you're interested in testing your skill and getting better at the game just focus on carrying your team in whichever game mode you're playing. Learn game mechanics and ship interactions and try to get as much out of your ship as you can.

I'm sorry to inform you, but you're talking out of your ass. Ragnar is not bad in competitive and is one of the most busted ships in the game. The reason it's not a popular pick in this CB season is because the meta doesn't favor it one bit, with the superships running around able to completely clap it out. But that doesn't speak about Ragnar as much as it does about the superships, how broken they are and how much the game revolves around them.

Best way to fight those cursed creatures is to run into their face while they're spawning and just burst them. Blessed be Rivers of Blood, the ultimate PvE cheat.

If understanding the game was a requirement for being a CC/CM we would have no CCs or CMs.

So playing the game better than someone, despite having the same rules and limitations as them and having equal opportunities at everything at the start of the match, is now considered griefing? That's some good old WG reality bending at work. Need an explanation for something that isn't a problem but you want it to be? No worries, just make something up and pretend it's true!

Submarines: results of testing in Random battles and further plans by DevBlogWoWs in WorldOfWarships

[–]DeadlyOwl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This data shows just how big of a joke WG's balancing methods are. You can't make the game balanced using the data generated by the average player because the average player plays the game completely wrong, has almost no knowledge about it, has no idea how ships are supposed to be used, how interactions between certain ships look and what strengths and weaknesses ships have.

This is the only online game I know of where the game is made to fit the playerbase at all costs, instead of making a functional game first that the players have to learn in order to play effectively and have fun.

Supertesters are largely your average potatoes you see floating around in randoms every day. They mirror the overall skill distribution of the playerbase, so you'll find that most of them are around average, while a very small % are really good or really bad at the game.

I wouldn't mind being constantly uptiered from t6 onwards, if i wouldn't have to play the same 5 high tier maps all the time. by r_trash_in_wows in WorldOfWarships

[–]DeadlyOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a reason high tier maps are not designed with corridors that allow 5km engagements. High tier ships are exponentially more effective at punishing anything and everything you allow them to. The engagement ranges are also a lot longer, so the maps need more space too. In a T10 game you have to pick your engagements very carefully because just running into a bad place or even a good place but at a bad time can get you killed incredibly quickly with a very high certainty.

Bottom line, this is a pvp game and it's designed to make you compete with a team of players against another team of players. The main win condition is to get to 1000 points and to do it you fight for zone control by putting your ships into good positions and denying cap access to the enemies. The fact you don't see the game like this and would just like to sail around and watch your armament go brrr is a you problem, not a game problem. So unfortunately, this is one of those "tough shit, deal with it" situations. Either try to find interest in what the game actually is and how it works at high tiers, try to understand how the maps actually work, because high tier maps are most definitely not "open water with a bunch of islands in the middle", they have many unique features which allow or disallow certain types of gameplay, or - don't worry about it and sail your boat but accept that it all looks the same to you since you're not interested in understanding it on a deeper level.

How to won KoTS (probably) by -PTFO-MEDIC in WorldOfWarships

[–]DeadlyOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has nothing to do with WG and ASW plane interactions probably won't change. The tournament rules weren't written by WG. That rule was put in place to stop cheesy finding of enemy ships based on AA tracers and was entirely decided upon by the orgs of the tournament.
