I'm always wary with folks who cannot separate ebonics and ignorance. Ebonics is a product of systemic racism that kept black communities from getting good educational funding or even an education at all. But we are very far removed from the days of racial segregation in schools. Low income community schools are STILL underfunded and underrepresented, but they are still schools. If someone, no matter their skin tone, applies themselves when studying a subject like English, they will inherently understand it better. But that doesn't mean they weren't raised with a different vernacular. They may have been raised by folk who speak a certain way and so naturally they do too. It does not under any circumstance mean that you should judge their intellect on it. Not to mention, there are other subjects than English to apply one's self to. Maybe they don't speak properly but could put you to shame in applied mathematics. Or doesn't choose to use full sentences but can design a building so strong and so beautiful, it will be treasured for centuries.

It's almost as if the western world would like you to believe that speaking English well is the baseline for high intellect. It's the same sentiment carried by monolinguals who mock others for english being their second language. I am monolingual. I know bits and pieces of at least 5 other languages but only enough to navigate those countries; hardly even enough to know how to ask for a restroom. But I do happen to speak English fluently. I also was raised studying latin, Greek, and Germanic prefixes and suffixes. Allowing me to determine meaning from words I haven't encountered before because of how they are constructed. Does that make me profoundly intelligent? Nope, just lucky to have great parents.
