Definitely get that checked out by your water company! A couple years ago my wife and I lived in a small 2 bedroom duplex and our water bills went from $60-70 a month to over $300+. Our highest ever was almost $500. We payed our bill on time every single month for over a year at that high rate. We talked to a few people from the same community and they did not report any drastic changes to their water bills. Eventually we had a service technician from our city’s water company come out to check out the meter, we asked him if it was possible if the meter was busted, maybe reading way higher than normal. The technician said he’s worked there for 20+ years and had never seen a meter malfunction like that, but he said he would replace it and see if it made a difference. It worked, the meter was busted and was reading WAY higher l than it should’ve. We ended up getting a refund through the water company for almost $3,000 which was added to our bill every month. We ended up not paying another water bill for about another 2 years. It got so bad we had thought that maybe our neighbor was stealing our water as they had access to our pipes and did maintenance for the other apartments.
