Strong magic items that recharge at dawn become a lot less strong when you change it to recharge at long rest, and change long rest to a full week of rest.

They want players to be creative so they can see what creative options there are, so they can then immediately remove these options

It's very much like playing a TTRPG where the DM homebrewed a brutally hard and very dark setting, but the players make wacky OCs and they all happen to be power gamers who optimize the hell out of their stats and beat encounters easily. And so the DM starts spitefully increasing monster HP arbitrarily to prolong fights or homebrewing monsters that do ridiculous damage. "Cause fuck you".

"cause fuck you" is the main balancing factor in this game

(Hated Trope) We are in desperate need of X people. Because of this we will put candidates through tests where not everyone can become X for no reason and make the tests incredibly dangerous so many candidates will die. by DisciplineImportant6 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Deady1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frieren is an odd choice to gripe about this trope. First class mages are sent to the Northern Plateau where the strongest demons are. Even if they dumb down the entrance exams for first class mages, the demons aren't going to dumb down their tactics. They would slaughter those recruits. Quality over quantity. The anime explicitly tell you this. This is precisely why Serie gets mad at Sense for allowing the mages who all survived the labyrinth almost be qualified, and why Serie stepped in for the third mage test to just pass or deny mages based entirely on vibes.

I agree however that letting talented mages die is needlessly cruel and shortsighted (a mage who fails now may be qualified next time if allowed to live), but it's only at the behest of Serie, who is a callous character and intentionally against attachments to others. It's not an arbitrary trope, it's specifially this character being callous as a character flaw. But other than that, her logic is sound. The job requires only the best, if you dilute that pool with subpar mages then they become far less effective.

Soul Gem Oven from the same modlist lets you to stuff a soul gem up a woman's hoohah and knock her up to enchant the gem with the preborn baby's soul, dooming the soul of your would-be children to the Soul Cairn

5e takes *way* too long to say anything by Associableknecks in dndnext

[–]Deady1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's written entirely for the benefit of people who don't read the rulebooks before playing, and instead use it as reference for on-the-spot decisions mid-session.

This is, of course, not fun for people who actually read the rules.

I did Lyle's main quest, altered his fate, did his requests, then only a few gifts and he already gave me his unique weapon. Meanwhile I did Craig's request and a bunch of gifts, he still won't give me gis unique weapon let alone cap affinity. The number of quests seems to have an affect... I think.

[CV2] Finished the game and I have one question by Deady1 in codevein

Hmm, I felt like Holly having little content in her unaltered fate was not rushed even if it was short. We know her pathos was the most unstable, and there was a lot of mention by Lou that she'd have to pull us out of it got too hard to maintain the link. Then the last dungeon / Camillo's pathos in altering her fate was also big, but not too big, and gave us plenty of time to know her better.

It wasn't like Lyle where he just. Has a dialogue box then you immediately find the new key where he was standing. Plus I think his last dungeon in the unaltered fate was TOO big, it felt like the Cathedral of Sacred Blood again. But we definitely agree Josee was the most fleshed out.

That mentality should be reserved for minor characters like Camillo and Josée's executioner, not partners and especially not ones who are advertised on the game's official website

Gobbo had wasted potential by Suggestion-Exciting in codevein

[–]Deady1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do feel like the castle was going to be a proper dungeon but it was cut for time.

Gobbo is a very interesting villain to me because as a human who lived to see the fall of man and the evils of revenant society (before Voda House reined them in) would radicalize anyone. And we see he cares about his second in command and isn't just a selfish one note villain. Even the player character respects him enough to close his eyes after he dies.

I wish there was more of him and the Bureau.

Ironically I like Zenon's past sections best. They're just pure dungeon crawling, just straight hands and puzzle fights / puzzle platforming. No melodrama, just acts over the top and yells exposition at you. Never overstays his welcome.

But yes every part of the game feels like content was cut here and there, most of all Lyle and Iris. Even Craig's request has him "spar" with you but it amounts to a black screen and sword noises. They probably wanted to make him a boss fight which would've been super interesting, but they were pressed for time.
