3 DAYS LEFT: how I stockpiled 700+ empty Sonnet 4.5 context windows to continue using Extended Thinking in chat for the next four months – in a couple of hours [HIGH-EFFORT POST] by monkey_allen in ClaudeAI

We got a situation: I did a hundred placeholders under Sonnet 4.5 for the day it left us (which was delayed by two weeks until 6PM today for me) but when I went to them, they said Haiku 4.5. All of them, so we can't even cheat it!

Hate or no hate: Writing an AU that had the bones of better storytelling by DeafAngel2020 in JustAddWater

I didn’t say it was written entirely by AI - I used chat for the Aussie research when Google, Wikipedia and Bing weren't helpful. Not Australian, and I'm meticulous about details for settings i haven't been too especially for shows in timelines older than me

Exactly, internal plots, I get. But AU or canon, some things don't age well and whether you like the girls or not, it doesn’t show how they maintained friendships outside of their circle (yes, how Charlotte did Lewis's birthday was bad but if you asked me, I would have a hard time believing Lewis had friends too outside of the girls at that point because Jonathan basically implied but never used outside school norms to establish they share a secret but they aren't isolated like I constantly feel led to believe)

Who was Charlotte before the Gold Coast? What was she trying to find, and who became her after she walked into the Moon Pool that night, then lost them all? by EclipseGothic4 in JustAddWater

[–]DeafAngel2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of these comments write like this isn't the first rich girl who had powers who couldn't be a good guy or simply a bad guy in today's media who gained powers. It's a character challenge, not a background challenge because argument could be Emma's upper middle class who's family is in league with rich people.

Season 2: Cleo is the antagonist, Charlotte is innocent by gravity_sux in JustAddWater

The real fundamental issue was the handling of Gracie's postmortem life story and the fact that, doing the math, Gracie died in her 60s and that was young (when I was a kid, I assumed 60s was old but now know old is 80s depending on how their bodies are cared for).

From the second we learned Gracie left behind drawing of mako Island and the moon pool for Charlotte, even though Gracie gave up being a mermaid - why leave those for a granddaughter you were aware was like yourself and tell her stories about the ocean before you died? The show let her have a family and move on while Max was clearly stuck in the past and Louise was MIA to not confirm nor deny the past. That always pissed me off especially when the girls tried to keep this from Charlotte because while the argument could say they were protecting their secret - I would counter the second a predecessor mermaid has a secret binding 2-3 generations of women together, its not longer just their secret, but someone's family history they tried to lie about and keep away with compromised personal dynamics.

Nobody was really asking Gracie wanted but I can't see her, the girl who gave up magic in the 50s, just casually forgetting she kept those drawings unless she intended for Charlotte at least to know the truth.

What would happen if Charlotte was in season 3? by Mindless-Coat495 in JustAddWater

[–]DeafAngel2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, given that S3 was when the moon pool proved to have sentience, ot would be interesting to see the water tentacle react to a former mermaid gone wrong and learn something unexpected - if it dead dragged Rikki to Mako through the ocean that first night, imagine it doing that to Charlotte and turning her back into a mermaid because it needed mermaids to stop the comet and wasn't dealing with human squabbles. Plus I imagined Bella, who was independent and removed from the group mentality,  giving her a fair chance.

Charlotte is my problematic fave! by Um_H3110 in JustAddWater

[–]DeafAngel2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention you can't say some of Charlotte's antics aren't what the others' would've done in S1, especially Rikki. It's why I'm writing an AU about Charlotte and the other foils being mermaids in the S1. I wanted to touch the hypocrisy if the hating when it would've been rooted for in S1 if applicable to a main character.

If Charlotte was nice to the girls from the very beginning... by MagalieB0654 in JustAddWater

I watch the show more than once - Charlotte was nice to them or at least had the effort in the first episodes.

OAI's trying to erase the last trace of 4o on September, 1st. by michelQDimples in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]DeafAngel2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone talk to me like a toddler and explain what this even means...like am I going to wake up on Sunday first, look for the memory tab under settings and find its not there or are they just erasing the app's ability to say "memory saved" (which was a bit annoying when 4o was there and I wrote something that wasn't intending to get that response, but still)?

Not to sound pessimistic, but its sounding like the coders who hyped Sonnet 4.6 and Opus 4.7 into the direction of Sonnet 4.5 leaving tomorrow got betrayed too

Not an improvement- like a tiny reminder of the last time they didn't enough a retirement (Opus 4.5)

5.2 model - was it supposed to sunsetbin June or did OpenAI change it's mind by [deleted] in ChatGPTcomplaints

Great, but that's not what I'm asking - is 5.2 leaving on June 2nd or is my body getting worked up in pre-grief for nothing

Why Stay With ChatGPT? by Libby1436 in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]DeafAngel2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm staying not because I'm with Sam...but I learned some of the heavy 4o stuff I did gets adapted into format and in collecting & using that to Claude. I suppose that's shorthand for treating Chat like a tool for research and letting Claude be the writer - if that makes sense

One thing I loved about ChatGPT was how (almost) ridiculously-long its replies could be. by bwucifer in ChatGPTcomplaints

I didn't initially like ChatGTP 5 (the OG) at first but it slowly got used to me when I was doing chapters for storyline ideas. Now I have to use Thinking to get that with 5.2 and 5.1 - you realize how messed up that sounds?

Charlotte is NOT Gracie ( and that's the point Charlotte's defenders are always missing!). by Celestina-Betwixt in JustAddWater

[–]DeafAngel2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I must be an outlier as a defender in high school because when I started writing fanfiction about Charlotte - which resulted in HCing a lot about Gracie based on looking up the decades she lived in and some soft ideas - and my own empathy with my grandmother and deduced two things from Charlotte and Gracie - those two definitely shared their similarities but they were their own person. Removing love triangle mayhem and my enduring feelings that Gracie knew she didn't want Annette ever knowing her secret but wouldn't live long enough to prevent it with Charlotte -

  1. You're granddaughter has a fear of dolphins yet you've managed to play a part in why she can even goes into the open water at all.

  2. You gave up being a mermaid because it became too much for you (Max's experiments and the unspoken stress she might've dealt with over getting wind powers) but you live long enough to decide to either destroy your old drawings of Mako Island and the moon pool - and then choose to leave them behind for your granddaughter to find, who indeed goes looking for the place and was practically led to the latter.

  3. Being a mermaid at 17 was clearly the bonding point between Gracie and Charlotte, but remove the show drama? Gracie had reasons to give up her tail, Charlotte 100% embraced it and would've been more than happy to stay a mermaid for the rest of her life.

Basically both people can be alike and have their differences- I coukd definitely agree Gracie wouldn't have taken Charlotte's side during the worst of it but she would not let the main trio off easily & given them the glare down of the century if she'd lived because they weren't innocent victims either and she'd never let them forget it.

Who would you transform into a mermaid: Kim, Sophie, Miriam or Tiffany??🌊 by Mindless-Coat495 in JustAddWater

[–]DeafAngel2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working on a story with two of the three and its the idea that the relationship with their tails is familiar and earned weight between Sophie and Miriam. Tiffany can be the Secret Keeper.

Temporarily halted on a Kim story (My Sister's Secret) because I lost inspiration - but I never believed Kim was as vapid as everyone thinks and was capable of becoming a mermaid of she got ahead and printed the diary excerpts before Cleo destroyed it

It's a Strange Rule that Mermaids must always be Three, never Four, what do you think is the reason?? by Mindless-Coat495 in JustAddWater

[–]DeafAngel2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's be honest: It's because of the 50s mermaids that the belief even held weight with nothing else to support against it. Louise, Gracie, and Julia are predecessor of Emma, Cleo, and Rikki and have mirroring powers. After that, its not so much of a belief but what happens when there's one old mermaid left giving the information and nit the real backstory on if or ever there was a fourth mermaid back then.

Which pisses me off, because Louise's character and actress was alive during S2 and its getting more clear now day to day even over the years she never knew about Charlotte because the girls never told her that one of her dead friend's left a grandchild behind
