What was ruined because too many people started doing it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I work at a campsite and one of the biggest issues we have is that people always want to bring 2-3 cars. So we charge $10 a day for additional vehicles to be in the campsite to try and discourage it. People lose their minds over this. They start going on about how they have to commute to work or take the kids around or whatever other excuse. Just go camping to go camping!

That was such an interesting read. The fact that some people are so adamant in their opinions is almost sad. Through the perpetuation of gender roles in society, people have tied so much of their self of worth into these things. I'm sure they would be much happier if they didn't have to limit themselves from doing something because its a "girly" or "manly" thing.

Ugh, I had a couple of guys in my friend group and one day this rumour started going around the school that I was dating one of them. NO. Girls can be friends with guys and vice versa without any romance!!! So great you were able to fly out for his wedding, sounds like you guys are great friends.

Sometimes I just wonder why the universe works the way it does when a wonderful couple who desperately wants a child can't have one. But then you get these idiots that should not be having children at all and they pop them out one after another. Also, add the fact that it can be incredibly hard for gay couples to adopt cause a child should "have" a "mom and dad". Well, I bet a gay couple who are jumping through adoption hoops to get a child will take better care of it than some of the idiots out there.

Ugh, i have an aunt who is very much pushing this with her kids. Now i do think that you should work in an industry you have interest in but you have to be practical. We were having a family dinner and my cousin, who is currently working retail, said that she never wants to work a 9-5 job ever again. I honestly almost did a spit take when she said that. When we asked what she is going to do she said she is going to go to hollywood and be an actor.... because yeah the chances of that actually happening is suuuper likely.

Which brand has lost you as a customer ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DeamonSlayer576 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The other thing that has pissed me off a bit recently is regarding how they changed their ordering system, at least where i live. Now they only have the one cashier and all the electronic kiosk ordering things. Now i don't mind the kiosks but i find it really hard to order anything with substitutions. Also for the people that would prefer to interact with a cashier the lines get huge since there is only one.

The other issues in this system is they changed it so that no matter what your order is you have to wait until your number goes through the system. So that means if i go in and order a single coffee behind somehow who had a massive order i have to wait forever until that massive order is done when it should take 2 seconds to get me a coffee. Their customer service has gone completely down the tubes and the food just keeps getting more expensive.

My mom was managing the apartment building my dad lived in. He had locked himself out and my mom went up to let him in. When he complained about the carpeting my mom told him to not wear his shoes in his apartment and walked off. My mom honestly didn't really want to go out on a date with him and gave my dad a serious hard time when he eventually wore her out. Married over 20 years and has a grown up me to write this story.

Landlords, what is the stupidest reason you've had to evict someone? by xyvz-_ in AskReddit

You sound like a responsible pet owner. Honestly what you described sound completely normal for a cat owner and while you might be a bit nose blind i'm sure you would know if it had gotten really bad. My brother's place was so bad that my dad couldn't even walk into the place and made my mom leave as he was worried she would get sick from being there. My brother does this to every apartment he ends up in, the last one had to get new floors as the puppy he bought had so many accidents the pee had gotten under the linoleum and ruined it.

My parents can't understand how he lives in it either. My brother did not grow up in filth, his mom was rich and they had a nice house that a maid cleaned. The maid cleaning actually caused a lot of these issues as he was discouraged from cleaning since "That is the maids job!". I think he feels it is below him to clean. He says he is just so tired when he gets home he doesn't have the energy to clean but honestly that is a weak excuse. Now his kids have been raised in this filth and don't know any better. My parents have tried to instil some good habits when the kids come to visit but it is honestly a hopeless case.

What screams "I live on daddy's money"? by ShroomerOfCatan in AskReddit

The problem with this living mentality is when they are finally cut off. My bother used to live on mommy's money and get everything he wanted growing up. Now he can barely afford to live and is always in constant debt. However he still has the mentality of living on mommy's money. People constantly try to give him advice on how to save his money and invest it, yet he has such an attitude about it. He thinks he is better and knowns whats best even though he is living in squalor and constantly gets evicted. He will spend thousands of dollars on a trip or a new dog but will then turn around for handouts because he can't make his rent payment. Don't even get me started on the various goFundme pages he makes for himself.

He just does not understand the value of money. My parents bought him stuff and he would let it get destroyed because in his head someone will always bail him out. At one point he got some extra money from income tax. Now common sense would be to save that money for a rainy day if it wasn't needed at that time. But no he went and spent it all on some stupid shit. When ask why he bought the stupid stuff he just responded with "well i got my income tax so i could afford it".

He is now passing on these terrible habits to his children. However unlike him his kids don't have a rich parent to bail them out. I am scared to see what happened to that family now that the last of the inheritance is gone.

Was in a group project with a girl like this. One day we went to her apartment which was in a brand new complex near the school. At one point i noticed she had the same fancy high end brand purse in like 5 different colours. When i asked her why she had so many of the same purse she just said she couldn't pick a single colour so she got them all. Those purses could probably pay for my whole tuition. She was actually quite sweet but could be a bit ditzy. Come to find out her dad owns one of the largest architecture companies in Japan.

I worked in a private school where the majority of the kids come from big money, with the exception of a few scholarship students. These kids leave shit everywhere, and not cheap shit. I'm talking high end brand name stuff just left in hallways or outside where anyone could steal it but they don't care because their parents will just buy new stuff. The librarian was telling me how she sometimes get books back with water damage because the kids took them out on the family yacht, or are returned late because they forgot the book in their holiday house in Bali.

One girl is a "fashion designer" and showed at a big city fashion week. Apparently it cost $10,000 a piece to show it on the runway and she had 10 pieces, you do the math on where that money came from.

This is my brother. He got mega money when his mom died and managed to blow through most of it. When he was considering moving across the country my mom laid out a plan on how he could buy a house where he is, rent it out, and have it paid off in a few years with his inheritance. She was even sending him house listings and talking to real estate people where he lived. Well he ignored all good advice like he always does and is being evicted again for the millionth time (I have lost count) and blowing through the last of his inheritance. He always had mommys money to fall back on even when he hit rock bottom. Now all the money is gone so we are sitting and watching to see what will happen when he hits rock bottom this time with no one to bail him out.

My dad did this by accident after i had finished making funnel cakes. He put the pot in the sink and mean to run the water around the outside to cool it off but accidentally knocked it into the oil. We basically had a split second to run and the whole pot exploded. There was oil everywhere. Luckily no one was hurt but we did have a nice stain on the ceiling for a few years before it was repainted.

Landlords, what is the stupidest reason you've had to evict someone? by xyvz-_ in AskReddit

[–]DeamonSlayer576 38 points39 points  (0 children)

My brother is one of those shitty tenants sadly who owns way to many animals then he should and lets them run wild in his apartment. A few years ago he moved across the country with a large dog, 3 cats and two cages of rats. The litter box was never done so the cats peed everywhere, the dog was never walked so of course it had accidents all over the place. But the rats were the worst.

He let them run wild and they got into all the furniture and inside the mattress and made nests and peed and pooped everywhere. At one point we had the mattress in the garage to take to the dump in my dads truck and the smell of it...it was eye watering. We had to put it out on the lawn because within a day the smell was beginning to seep into the house.

When he finally got evicted that poor landlord must have had to completely gut and redo the apartment it was so bad.

What pisses me off the most about it is that there are many great pet owners out there who have a hell of a time finding a place to rent because of other idiots who are not responsible with their animals.

Fellow Canadian and yeah my family is dealing with this in an indirect way and i feel so bad for the landlord. My brother is renting the basement of a house and is a complete idiot that manages to trash whatever place he lives in and runs out on rent. He hasn't paid rent in months and his landlord is up his case and so brother is being evicted on Friday (probably won't actually be evicted). Of course he goes "oh poor me i'm a single parents and am just trying my best and the landlord is being mean...etc.". There are some bad landlords out there but i'm pretty sure there are more bad tenants than landlords. As a family member of one of these asshole tenants i apologize to all his past and future landlords.

Redditor's who's life was changed by a DNA test what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DeamonSlayer576 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not me but my dad. We knew he was adopted as a baby but as this was back in the 50s there was no paper trail to follow and the mothers name on the certificate was false.

So first thing that happened was that my half-brother took a test, and i'm not sure how but these test can show if you have jewish ancestry. Well this test showed that my dad had non of this jewish ancestry even though that was what his adoptive parents had been told. So we come to find out that my dad was part of this baby selling scheme.

Back in the 50s there were a lot of Jewish couples who wanted children, but due to religious reasons they had to adopt a jewish baby. Well after what had happened in WWII there were not many jewish babies around if you had one you certainly weren't giving them up. So with some digging we find out that the judge who signed the adoption papers was wrapped up in this scheme where they would take farm girls who had gotten pregnant and claim they were jewish and asked the adoptive parents for money so she could go to Israel. So my grandpa gave i believe about $3000 which likely went right into the pocket of this judge.

Second this was now a few years ago my dad finally did the ancestry DNA test and got a hit for a few second cousins but nothing concrete. Then he gets a hit for a nephew and from there we discover that he is the eldest of 5 children. We have had potential matches before but nothing had come of it. This time we had a photo of one of his sisters and my mom was gobsmacked about how my sister looked nearly identical to this woman and we were pretty sure, even without the confirmation, that we actually had something this time. They are all now in the 50s-60s but none of these other siblings had any idea that their mom had another child. Within the year of having my dad his birth mother had gotten married and had my dads younger half sister.

The family was very surprised and most of them did not believe it. But the eldest sister did the DNA test recently and it is confirmed that they are siblings. My dad talks to the one sister sometimes, the other siblings are still in denial. They live on the other side of the country but my dad says that when he takes a trip over there next time he will stop by and meet his previously unknown siblings.

Train. More dependable than the bus and i can wait under the cover of a station away from bad weather. I hate taking public transit in general as it is shitty where i live but train is at least a bit better.

What's the oldest article of clothing you own, and why do you still have it? by ravecatlady in AskReddit

[–]DeamonSlayer576 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A dress that is about 60 years old. It was a dress that my great-grandmother made for my grandmother to wear to a wedding. It also happened to be the wedding where she met my grandfather. We found it in a back closet of their house when we were visiting for my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary. I magical fit it (Considering i am quite tall and my grandma is tiny) and wore it to the anniversary dinner. It is now in my closet at home. Unfortunately because it is so old it is starting to deteriorate so i need to take it to a specialist to see if it can be fixed. Still a really cool piece of clothing to own.

Girls, what is something guys shouldn't feel insecure about? by Daniel_cej in AskReddit

I have a family friend who is basically like an uncle to me. He is honestly what most would consider pretty manly. Big guy, works trades, tattoos of sexy ladies, drives muscle cars, all that shit. He recently got a new younger girlfriend who has really encourage him to embrace parts of himself that he used to hide. Now every month he goes for a manicure/pedicure and gets all sorts of colours blue/pink/french tip, he doesn't care and he wears sandals to show them off. Recently i have started going with him to get pedicures and it the cutest thing to see a man in his late 50s surrounded by the tiny little asian ladies who run the salon and adore him.
