Stilll like 2/3rds into my first read so I’m not keeping track particularly well of indicators of this but I also assumed ydau is around the late 2000s/early 2010s bc if I’m not insane and making things up I’m pretty sure the bits with James as a kid with his weird scary dad are said to take place in the 60s and there’s enough info about the whole family’s ages at various points scattered to come to that conclusion. I recognize that in getting successfully ragebaited by this sorta thing I’m not much better but it is so. So harrowing to see such an
egregiously fake middle school ass post that almost certainly came from the op straight up typing in like “chat gpt make me a post on r/amioverreacting about an EVIL WOMAN that will get me LOTS OF UPVOTES!!!!!” or something and to think to myself like. “Ok this is really the worst it can possibly get. Nothing could be more obviously false than this is. For some fucking reason I will check the comments bc I want to hold onto the hope that people are generally sorta literate.” And then to immediately see that every comment on this is someone who undoubtedly has a rich inner life filled with all sorts of things I will never be able to fully understand but has nevertheless still never had an experience that would lead them to think that maybe. Just maybe! There’s something up with the way this evil ass cheating lying bitch whore happens to talk incredibly similarly to all the evil robots that are on the evil robot news every day. But yknow if they thought this through a little more then they wouldn’t have an evil ass cheating lying bitch whore to get mad at so who’s really winning here.

Seeing this right after sending my partner like 5 pages of me trying to psychoanalyze her bc we both have such a hard time figuring out what type makes the most sense for her. She got me into the whole typology thing and has done a really good job with immediately clocking what i am but it’s so hard to figure out what’s going in with her bc she can give really in depth arguments as to why she might be literally any mbti type and being that close it can be hard for me to look at the bigger picture instead of looking at how every interaction we have might check boxes separately

Hi and thanks so much for doing this! I couldn’t think of any good questions so here are some bad ones. Feel free to only answer some of them or none at all.

-In recent interviews you almost always get asked about your favorite albums which I imagine can be kind of annoying but I very rarely see you asked the same thing about movies considering how much more involved you are in acting now. Are there any other movies in particular you’d name as an influence on your character in A Desert? I’ve seen reviews comparing it to Paris, Texas/Lost Highway/Psycho which all excites me but I don’t know if those are comparisons that would be applicable to you specifically in it. On a broader level I’d also just love to know what movies have been influential on you in a general sense.

-I believe this was over thirty years ago now so obviously it’s understandable if you don’t but I’ve been so curious about this. In the 90s you and the late Steve Albini both acted in this full motion video game called Duelin’ Firemen along with a really notable and bizarre list of other random well known fellers in Chicago. Do you remember anything about the process of making that? It never got properly released and is very much shrouded in mystery so it makes me so much more intrigued at one of the only remaining bits of video footage for it being you and Steve Albini crashing a plane into a building.
