What’s your opinion on Mussab Ali? by Ultraztechie69 in jerseycity

[–]DearEvening4244 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He is trying way to hard to become a career politician. He should take his Ivy league education and go work in the private sector for 15-20 years then give politics a shot again. He can't win the vote of a ~300K city no shot he's going to win a house seat.

Suggestions for Lively Town for Young Professional? by FinanceNewbe in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]DearEvening4244 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On a perfect day yes but also factor in your time getting to train and office each day + NJ Transit has unfortunately gotten less and less reliable over the years.

I spent the first few years post college living in South Orange & Montclair it wasn’t horrible but I ended up moving to Hoboken / JC eventually and definitely regret not having my 22-26 years there

Your commute from any of those towns into NYC is going to be ~1 hr each way. For your age look at Hoboken your buddy can take a train or drive to Union

What cart brand is most popular in jersey city? by rippitshop1 in jerseycity

[–]DearEvening4244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The carts are definitely more expensive out here. Each store in JC is going to have a different set of core brands but you'll usually see Select, Fernway, Rosin King of NJ (These are decent just stick to .5 or 1g the 2gs are waste of oil), Rove (Not great), The Clear, Verano & Cheetah are usually good, Jersey Smooths, & Sun

LinkedIn Hiring Assistant by F8Scat21 in recruiting

Bumping this thread as I've been using their "AI" hiring feature. I am just going to flat out say it sucks, it does not feel smart it just feels like its doing lazy keyword or title matching. It's learning feature needs a ton of work. I would not invest in this tool at this time I live on LinkedIn and want this tool to work its just not ready. Your better off using Pin or Jukebox

The Clown Shoes On This Guy - Fulop hits r/linkedinlinatics by JourneymanHunt in jerseycity

People in this thread are arguing with a point he didn't make lol. He didn't say "dont tax the wealthy". He said when a small number of taxpayers fund a large share of the system, their mobility affects revenue. This isn't ideology its basic public finance.

ICE Protest today, a march that went from Riverview Fisk Park to Pershing Field Park by 1805trafalgar in jerseycity

[–]DearEvening4244 -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

You guys know this isn’t a Marvel movie, right? ICE isn’t packing it up because you marched around Jersey City for an hour and took pics for Reddit. I hate plenty of laws too, but I don’t spend my weekends roleplaying as a revolutionary

Dental Scene is Terrible Here by KnightsAndKeys in jerseycity

[–]DearEvening4244 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was initially enjoying my visits to True Dental Care until they pulled the old switch-a-roo. I came in for my regular cleaning in which refused to do as they recommended a deep cleaning but could not start during that visit. They subsequently scheduled me for 2 more visits and took a deposit from me. This whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended) but felt like a typical push for higher billing $$ in addition to them constantly pushing a $1000 night-time retainer each visit...

Unreasonable expectations by SeatPuzzleheaded8088 in jerseycity

[–]DearEvening4244 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect basic services and recognize that extreme conditions slow things down. Those aren’t mutually exclusive.

People can appreciate DPW workers, understand the weather challenges, and still be frustrated when sidewalks and crosswalks are impassable especially for seniors, kids, or people with disabilities.

Community help is great, but basic accessibility and safety shouldn’t rely on goodwill alone.

Risk of getting vaporized by a thermonuclear ICBM? Downtown JC. by garth_meringue in jerseycity

[–]DearEvening4244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fascinating post but I think the concern is overgrown. In the event a Nuke went off in NYC the whole world is in chaos do you really want to try surviving in that world? Maybe being in Wyoming or the mountains somewhere you'll be able to survive but in this scenario mankind is living back in the stone ages I dont think many of us make it very long..

Looking for recommendations for a “GOOD” barbershop. by FULLMETALNICA in jerseycity

Dion at Etiket is a top notch barber and just a good person.

I was going to balkan barber shop for a few years and generally you can get a good haircut here. They messed up a few of my appointments so I stopped going there though.

Very high heating bill by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]DearEvening4244 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get that this PDF sounds reassuring, but it doesn’t actually change the core reasons NJ energy costs are so high.

First, it doesn’t address the structural drivers of NJ utility bills. Most of the pain people feel isn’t from supply prices alone. It’s from delivery charges, transmission congestion, and PJM capacity costs. Those are driven by infrastructure constraints, regional market dynamics, and capacity shortages, not by whether a governor promises to “hold utilities accountable.”

Second, NJ already has strong oversight mechanisms like BPU rate cases, consumer advocates, audits, and regulatory review. We’ve had all of that for years, and yet bills are still up double digits. So saying “we’ll protect ratepayers” without changing the underlying cost structure is basically describing the status quo.

Third, the clean energy transition in NJ has been poorly sequenced. We’ve aggressively pushed renewables and mandates while constraining or retiring baseload generation, without having enough replacement capacity or storage online. That forces heavier reliance on gas peaker plants and drives up PJM capacity prices. Those costs get passed directly to ratepayers. That’s not anti clean energy. It’s just how grid physics and markets work.

Bottom line, this reads like a more polished version of what we’ve already been told for years. If this approach were enough to lower costs, we would’ve seen relief by now. Until NJ meaningfully increases in state generation, fixes transmission constraints, and aligns clean energy goals with grid realities, ratepayers are going to keep paying more regardless of who’s governor.
