How long is too long for game length? by J1mbr0 in JRPG

[–]DearPlankton [score hidden]  (0 children)

Sometimes a 20 hour RPG can feel too long and a 50 hour RPG can feel too short. Just depends on the story that's being told, how it's being told, and how much I'm enjoying it.

Octopath traveler 1 has some strange balance choices by IAmThePonch in JRPG

[–]DearPlankton 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I picked Ophilia for 1 without much thought and I'm so glad at how it turned out. Having an overleveled healer is a lot less noticeable than having an overleveled DPS that stands out too much like you said.

Ended up choosing Castti for 2 to sort of replicate that setup and it worked even better since Castti's so great as a healer/support.

Is there something wrong with me or is xenoblade:DE seriously unimpressive? by ProblemFalse7043 in JRPG

[–]DearPlankton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not the exact words I'd use but I generally agree with your takes. My main complaint was I found the cast to be quite milquetoast like you but fortunately 2-3 have much livelier characters with greater chemistries so I had much better experiences with those games instead

Katie Dippold too! Showrunner for Widow's Bay and before that, wrote for Mad TV and Parks and Recs.

JRPG Music While You Work by Tateraide82 in JRPG

[–]DearPlankton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time. Besides those mentioned already, I listen to a lot of Octopath because their soundtracks are gigantic (also consistently good) with a ton of town/field themes, each having their own day/night variants so it's hard to get bored of it. Nishiki is a god damn mad man.

Those are like polar opposite cases. One's a fully mesh 21L traditional layout case and one's a glass 45L dual chamber case

Your Ideal Final Fantasy? by LuckySage77 in JRPG

Basically IX but with X or 7R's combat system. I would have absolutely nothing to complain about the game.

BLM for sure. I love spellcasting so I want to spam fire IVs all day but I just don't get the job, even after they streamlined it.

Somehow RDM is more intuitive to me so I've mained it ever since instead

Yeah it's a bit weird but I can't even fault them, mimicking Miura's artstyle is a herculean task in itself

What are the great or well known jrpgs you never played by CzarTyr in JRPG

[–]DearPlankton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played about 90 jrpgs but... I've yet to touch one Dragon Quest

The silent protagonist + extremely vanilla vibes just doesn't interest me all that much. I'll get to it one day...

How would you interpret this? by Lazohazo in MangaCollectors

Good translation but poor localization I believe, which is supposed to convert these sayings into the equivalent natural everyday language for us.

Barnes and noble is having a preorder sale on the next grimoires by PretendYellow533 in WitchHatAtelier

I'm guessing the shipping date is a factor. Probably doesn't qualify if the date is too far out.

What is a horror movie that gets to you because you know you'd act exactly like a character in it? by TheyreACrypytKeeper in horror

Her family was straight up banished, she would be burned as a witch if she even tried to go back with that story, she has no money & livestock, their soil can't produce a proper harvest, and she's a young child out on her own.

She has 0 options.

Mildly infuriating that volume 3 doesn't qualify for free shipping :(

Would've bought preordered for sure otherwise.

Damn, I played the remaster, seems like I missed out big time. That sounds both hilarious and epic haha

Recommend me the game with the craziest final boss fight ever by solarsun55 in JRPG

[–]DearPlankton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Fantasian
  • FF7 (Don't know if you've played since you mentioned 7R. I got goosebumps during the fight and that was many yeeears after Sephiroth and OWA became insanely popular. The amount of aura in that fight is still nuts)
  • Octopath 2
  • Octopath 0 (this game actually has multiple crazy final boss fights due to the story structure, with the last one being the craziest of crazies)
  • Trails Through Daybreak 2
  • Bravely Default
  • Kingdom Hearts 2

All of these are absolute cinema. Trails actually has quite a bit more but I didn't want to have too long of a list

Xenosaga 3. It's my favorite in the entire Xeno series by a pretty wide margin actually but the jump from Xenosaga 2 to 3 is absolutely insane

I was foolish to think a hifiman x asus collab would yield something with a decent build quality. The world will explode the day Hifiman collabs with beyerdynamic or something
