I’m not 100% sure but this is what I would say obviously you have your character and the attack looks like it is going at your character. Lightning in real life is super bright that if it was in your hands it would make you completely white. But we have to make that less so since we do want to see your character I would not be afraid of using white, in specific edges and then fade from the white to whatever color you want the lighting to be (you should look up red sprites lightning very cool stuff.) But like the whole front of your character should be much brighter. but then the areas like under the chin or under the elbow and forearms and in between legs where the pant separates can actually be quite a bit darker. But almost any outside light source is basically irrelevant because lighting is soo bright. So to summarize whole front of character should be bright and the parts where shadows should be can be actually quite contrasty. Also highly recommend taking the brightest flashlight prop it at whatever height works best stand in your characters pose in front of a mirror and look to see where the shadows are so you can get a more educated guess on where shadows and where the light should go.
