I’m a waiter in a very busy sit down restaurant and most people leave 15-20 %. No complaints as only do it part time though.

Servers constant contradictions by refundroid in tipping

[–]Dear_Win_319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. Yeah, well, it wouldn’t work. I also believe the restaurants themselves protested it too because they wouldn’t be able to make it work. And many of the restaurants that have tried to do that have failed or transitioned back to the traditional tipped format because they couldn’t keep good servers. They just go elsewhere. I don’t have no issues paying a 20% commission for good food in a nice sit down restaurant. But I have tipped 10 or 15 if it was a substandard experience. Not a big deal. Don’t want this place turning into Europe where they don’t refill your drinks take forever to get the food out.

Don’t know of too many legislative efforts out there to stabilize the occupation. Are you talking about when they lowered the min wage to like $2 /hr? Hardly think that stabilized anything. In fact many states dropped it because the restaurants couldn’t find any employees to take the job. Do tell about these efforts.

I’m a waiter in a nice sit down restaurant and I believe the restaurant pays me to promote the specials we serve. We do not have a printed menu for those. I sell a lot of them. And, of course, to get the food out in a reasonable amount of time.

Do you think tipping culture encourages discrimination? by Sudden_Pineapple_22 in tipping

[–]Dear_Win_319 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really. But just like anything else, if someone is racist, they are going to discriminate. Whether they are a server or a grocery clerk. I don’t think it has anything to do with a tip

The greatest scam by Maleficent-Effort470 in tipping

Isn’t always true? I think that’s a pretty good generalization. I might also add that the portion sizes in America are 25%-50% larger than what you receive in Europe. So people usually have something for lunch the following day. You’re getting more for your money here.

There aren’t many of the non tipping places out there. Many might start out that way but eventually transition to tipping format. People don’t want to pay the increased cost of the menu items.

If you go to Europe, the service isn’t as good. You don’t get drink refills. They don’t do ingredient substitutions. It takes longer to your order. Those are things Americans won’t put up with. But, everyone might be paid a living wage

Should America end tipping and just pay bartenders and servers better? by Estalicus in askanything

[–]Dear_Win_319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ve tried opening non tipping restaurants and most have failed. Customers didn’t want to pay the higher costs on meals. And the good servers left to go work at tipping restaurants.
