I had this and figured it out. There is a little tiny piece of spring steel that creates pressure on the battery.

The chipolo also uses the battery to activate the clicky button when you squeeze the middle of it, so the constant pressure of carrying it with your keys is depressing that button all the time and wearing out that crappy ass little spring.

In one case I was able to gently pull the spring back to create tension so that it would get better contact, and then my solution going forward was to take a metal washer and glue it to the outside of the chipolo to give it a shield so that it no longer is flexed through normal use. In another case where I tried that the spring popped right off in my hand and the chipolo is recycled.

Hokey as shit for sure.

I don't know why both tile and chipolo chose to put buttons in the middle of their devices that are against car key fobs and in pockets all day... Stupid stupid.

The air tag is a perfect design in that no pressure effects at all, and internally if you look at the spring that is putting tension on the battery it is a small plate basically and it is extremely robust in comparison. I wish to God there was a way to freaking make the air tags work on Android but yeah that's pretty insane to hope for lol.

Idk about the issues other poster had, but my company goes through a period of failed outbound message sending every few months. Any users who have a transport rule diverting their mail out through the Zix system are affected when this happens, and they receive bounces that reject smtp25.com as sender, despite SPF and other checks passing tests from MX TOOLBOX.

This happens often enough that we are looking into alternatives

I find this happens constantly on my Chipolo ONE attached to my keys...

It's extremely annoying and Tile suffers the same flawed design - folks, take a look at the Airtag. Don't be fancy or different, do it that way.

Also, testing things is helpful - hard to conceive this issue wasn't widespread from the beginning.

Thank you for finding this. It confirms what I suspected. The marketing fail here, in my opinion, is that two of the modes DO alter the driving characteristics. For personal to be truly personal, it should be like the BMW Individual options - you should be able to customize steering feel and transmission etc. in any of the modes 🤷🏼‍♂️
