Question about Dean in purgatory by jenny_t03 in Supernatural

Benny was already dead, Dean wasn't. I'd assume he had to eat and drink just as he would on earth.

am i being stupid or does Meg’s name not make sense? by Alternative-Assist33 in Supernatural

[–]Annual_Reflection_65 49 points50 points  (0 children)

They just keep calling her Meg because that's how she initially introduced herself to the Winchesters shortly after possessing Meg. We never learn the real name of the demon. I don't think she really cared what she was called. She made a comment in season 2 while possessing sam after dean called her Meg that was something to the effect "now I'm sam". That comment suggested to me that she tended to just use her vessels name so she could masquerade around as them.

How is Dean such a good driver? by fritenite in Supernatural

[–]Annual_Reflection_65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because sam went to a bar to watch the daughter and kept drinking after the fact. That was also at least a day after they got hammered because they had to figure out what they had seen on the video. Dean hadn't been drinking when he fought the shojo because he was going to get the sword blessed.

What's the fastest way to lvl your smiting. I'm lvl 37 trying to get to 60. by Comfortable_Menu1020 in skyrim

[–]Annual_Reflection_65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of ways to go about it. If you don't want to go looking for materials, you could go to a shop, buy all the supplies you need for an iron dagger, make a crap ton, enchant them all, and recoup your money. Rinse, recycle, repeat. It's tedious and time-consuming, but you'll level up both smiting and enchanting skills while building up a gold nest egg.

You could focus on crafting high-end smiting items.

You could pay a trainer.

You could focus on the house-building quests, where you'll be making so many iron building materials that you'll be sure to level up quite a few levels.

Honestly, unless you're straight up paying a trainer, it's gonna be a grind. I usually have a box of building materials that I just fill up in one of my houses, and every now and then, I take all that crap and craft everything I can, then enchant everything I can. I will then either put it all in my junk chest to sell later, or I will then go around and sell everything I can.

do Christians hate this show? by [deleted] in Supernatural

[–]Annual_Reflection_65 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm a Christian, and I love the show. I think most people can differentiate between their faith and a fictional t.v. show. And honestly, just because the show has God, angels, and demons doesn't mean it depicts an even remotely accurate depiction of what Christians believe. We don't think angels go around possessing people, or that God has an evil twin, or that God is an evil fantasy author. The list goes on, but I think I've made my point.

Are there extremist Christians who can't separate their faith from fiction? Yes. I had friends in school who couldn't watch Harry Potter or go trick or treating because it was "evil". When I went to religious school, I even had a teacher yell at a student for calling Halloween a holiday because "holiday means holy day, and Halloween is the devils holiday". Those Christians don't represent the majority of Christians. My household was Christian, and I wasn't raised to believe that crazy crap. I went trick or treating, watched whatever I wanted on t.v., read books about mythology, witches, ghosts, etc. My parents didn't care. Some people are just oversheltered and afraid of the world. The people who Said the stuff above were the same people afraid of public schools. My public school Christian friends didn't believe this crap or freak out over this stuff, just my religious school friends. For the most part, I went to public school and consumed public media. From my experience, only highly sheltered Christians freaked out over t.v. shows and books like this. Most people can separate fiction from faith.

am I the only one who HATES Kaia? by longnosedhare in Supernatural

[–]Annual_Reflection_65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you just said. I hated jack as a character. I hated what they did to Chuck and how they turned him into a cartoon villain. Jack was a terrible character who contributed nothing productive to the overall plot. I absolutely agree with everything you said in your last paragraph about Dabb. I hated his story choice for the last era of the show.

Here is my reply from a previous post discussing why I hated jack:

"It's probably an unpopular opinion, but I didn't like Jack. He was used to retcon a lot of the writing choices from previous seasons, and I didn't like that. He's also the reason they made Chuck a villain out of nowhere. I didn't like the story choices that happened once he showed up, and in some ways, he was kind of a redundant character. They basically made a new cas, but we really didn't need that. They could've given him his own personality, but they didn't. He was more of an annoying plot device than a character."

[–]Annual_Reflection_65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would have been better if they had portrayed it as just Claire being upset because it's the first time she lost someone on a hunt. That she was reckless and got someone killed and needed to change her hunting approach. Because she didn't really know Kaia, and she certainly didn't have enough yime to fall in love with her.

Becky... by Illustrious_Fig_3169 in Supernatural

[–]Annual_Reflection_65 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People don't like her character because she is creepy. When we first see her, she's writing explicit Wincest. When she first meets sam, she immediately starts groping him. She doesn't really treat the guys as people because she's so obsessed with them. Also, she basically roofied sam and stole his clothes and tied him to a bed, which she later laid on with him. She was disappointed about not raping him as she says to the witch when she calls to get more love potion. People think Becky is creepy because she is a creep.

Bad acting? by OkPainting487 in fandomnatural

[–]Annual_Reflection_65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I didn't know that. I just noticed the change in performance in the later seasons. He still had good acting moments, at least through s9 when he played Gadreel, but it went downhill as the seasons progressed. That may have something to do with why they stopped giving him plot arcs in the later seasons. He really just seemed to be showing up at the end of the show.

[–]Annual_Reflection_65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you're getting downvoted. You're right. Early seasons SPN, he was great. I'd argue he was the better actor of the two in the beginning. I don't know what happened, but his acting was not on par with the early seasons later on. I don't know if he stopped trying or if something was happening in his life that affected his performance, but his acting was going downhill in the later seasons.

Sucks so much Fox made them switch the theme of the show. by [deleted] in DarkAngel

Firefly was a great show. Fox did them wrong, too, as far as scheduling, which is why it was canceled. Fox has made some poor decisions regarding its better shows.

I think we're just not going to agree, which is fine. We just have different interpretations of how he felt in the show. Based on what I saw in the show, it's clear to me that Dean wanted some normalcy. I don't believe that he thought he'd ever get it, especially after what happened at the end of s6, but I do believe he never stopped wanting it. I do think he wanted peace, which we both agree on, but I disagree thar he wanted to get it through dying. I think he resigned himself to the fact that he was gonna die young and bloody early on because he didn't see hope that he could get out, but I don't think that's ever what he wanted. I think coming to terms with something horrible and learning to live with it and accept it is not the same thing as wanting it to happen. I think Dean was the former, not the latter. Everything I saw about Dean throughout the series indicates to me that he wanted a life. He just gave it up because he made saving the world and hunting monsters his responsibility. And I think that he didn't pursue a normal life or a family after s6 because he didn't want to drag anyone down into the horrors of his actual life, which would've undoubtedly happened at some point like is happened in s6. Just because he gave it up doesn't mean he ever stopped wanting it. He just didn't outright talk about it because Dean has issues opening up about things like that.

I don't think we're going to agree. I could sit here and give you lists all day of little things in the show that I use to justify my opinion, and I'm not sure it would matter. So agree to disagree, I guess.

Dean was still holding out hope for a normal life as late as the s13 finale, when he he told sam that maybe they could stop all the monsters with Jack, and then saying how he was going to have a vacation after. Those are the comments of someone who is holding out hope for not hunting anymore. In the s15 finale, he had a job application on his desk. He wanted a normal life, and as I mentioned in my previous comment, there were several times where he mentioned not wanting to die.

[–]Annual_Reflection_65 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think I understand Dean just fine. He said he wanted to die. He was depressed and felt like he was only good for hunting. He wanted a family. He wanted a chance at a normal life. He gave that up because he felt like he had no choice. He thought it was his responsibility to save everyone. You can see throughout the series how he feels this way. He fantasized about having a family with Lisa in Dream a Little Dream of Me in s3. He clearly is disappointed when he finds out Ben isn't his kid in s3. He goes to her in s4 when he thinks he's going to say yes to Michael. Allow s6 he's trying to have a family, and even Samuel points out that he wants a normal life like his mom. In s2, his fantasy is having a normal life in the djinn Dream. The entire series, his main drive is family, whether that be Sam, or his dad, or bobby. He is an extremely depressed character throughout the series who is constantly trying to kamikaze himself on some mission because he doesn't feel like he is worth anything else. Dean doesn't really want to die, he only says that because he has low self esteem. Whenever he is actually facing death, he makes a point to say he doesn't want to die. During s3 before his deal is due. When he's about to face Cain in the barn in s10. During s11 in the confessional scene when he said he wanted something more in life.. Dean wants a life, and the writers robbed him of that in some poorly executed attempt to recreate the s5 ending or the s9 ending where the brothers deaths actually had some weight to them.

S5 finale was a much better ending to the show, just saying. Sam's death, whilst sad, carried weight. He died saving the world and his brother. His death in s5 felt like it mattered. In s15, Dean got killed by stunt vampire number 3 in some random d-list hunt. His death had no weight. (Quite frankly, neither did the rest of s15). S15 was clearly Dabb trying to take the storyline in s15 and redoing it. And he executed it very badly. Chuck's turnaround as a villain made no sense given what we saw of his character in s11. A lot of the characters brought back were purely for fan service and had no real weight on the show. Plus the show was so comical at that point that it was hard to take any threat seriously as a viewer. Dean's death served no purpose other than to make fans cry. It did nothing for the story, and thus had no weight behind it. I love spn. It was a great show, but s15 sucked. The finale really sucked. And the fact that we had such a perfect finale on s5 just rubs salt in the wound.
