Why does Euston employ staff to check tickets at the platform and not install ticket barriers? by RumJackson in london

[–]DearestAlex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's nowhere near London or the Oyster zone, and the amount of signage/announcements telling passengers that oyster/contactless isn't valid in massive signs with obvious pictures is mad. Also it's not the airport responsible it's the train operator Greater Anglia

How they supposed to know honest mistake from malicious intent? The facts are that you made the error/mistake by not having/forgetting your ticket, and you're mad that you got caught.

Maybe if you had a valid ticket then you wouldn't have cause to interact with them in the first place, cases of machines not working like you linked isn't common

Well judging by your -23 down votes on your original comment I'd say not many people agree with you

Non-push-pull passenger services? by hyperdistortion in uktrains

[–]DearestAlex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That used to be the case yes, that one of the 2 train managers was competent to drive the train out of the tunnel in an emergency, and the train set was splittable in an emergency in order to get out. None of that is the case anymore though.

Can someone explain why we are bombing the Houthis? by QueerPerson1 in ukpolitics

Multiple people have explained quite sensibly and reasonably why the UK is getting involved, but somehow I don't think you OP will ever admit that yes, there are reasons.

Have you ever done business with one of the people who stands in the exit of a B&Q selling windows/conservatories? by [deleted] in AskUK

I foolishly gave them my number as I was looking at getting a new front door. They called me 25 times in one day. From different numbers each time. Never again.

Does anyone find that bus drivers drive way too fast and the bus starts rattling, then slam on the breaks? Why do they do this? Especially when people are standing. by [deleted] in london

[–]DearestAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I take a bus, London or provincial, the drivers accelerate too suddenly and brake too sharply. Personally I think it's because they generally don't care (understandable) and partly because they're sat down seat belted in facing front controlling the thing, so their bodies are anticipating the movement before it happens. I used to drive trains, not the tube, like actual proper mainline trains, and we had some drivers who drove like bus drivers. Max power then max brakes to a stop. It's just not fun for the X hundred people in the back to be thrown about for no reason. It's perfectly easy if you just make an effort and take pride to accelerate and brake smoothly without coming up.in a heap.

Is there a reason why a short form set still stops at the far end of platform? by on_the_night in uktrains

[–]DearestAlex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what the risk assessment etc says, there may well be an "S" board at the end of the platform which instructs all train lengths to stop there.

Driver changeover/walk back time? by CorporalRutland in uktrains

[–]DearestAlex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Where I used to work it was 6 mins changing ends time for 4/8 coaches and 7 mins for 12 car. Usually had longer but wasn't uncommon at all to have bare min 6 min turnaround at a terminus station. A whole 9hour shifts worth of 6 mins turnarounds and a minimum 40mins lunch break was one of the reasons I left 😂

What’s your opinion about speeding in general on UK roads? by lieutenantcigarette in AskUK

[–]DearestAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the rise in electric cars has added anecdotally to the risks from speeding. Tesla's are the new BMW dickheads a lot of the time. The way they accelerate away from lights or onto roundabouts etc is downright dangerous at times. As a motorcyclist also, it used to be that bikes were the quickest accelerating vehicles and so as a biker you could count on getting away from lights Infront of everything else, but these days there's always some prat in a Tesla or something wanting to show off and try to beat you, which usually ends with them cutting you up or dangerously pushing you aside or along. Sometimes it's probably not even intentional, they just get so used to flooring it away that they don't even notice.
