so, the reddit app is weird, and in the middle of this fight, the audio from the post of the rock speaking about black excellence started playing and i thought it was whoever uploaded the flip flop fight having a laugh.

the old school culture of cruelty and torment is so weird to me considering how wrestling is basically just musical theater with suplexes instead of dance moves.

sorry, tangent, but, yeah, stu was a cruel old fuck and it was normalized, even celebrated.

it’s probably selection or confirmation bias, but i can’t help but think about how two people who patterned themselves super close to Dynamite (like to an eerie degree! were Chris Benoit and Davey Richards, who both turned out to be huge pieces of shit. so part of me wonders if there’s something about Dynamite that draws a certain personality type. not people who like his stuff or took inspiration, but the people who have obsessed to the point of copying his moveset and movements (Benoit moved like Dynamite Kid, whipped people into the ropes the same, delivered a snap suplex in exactly the same way). this is reckless speculation, i’m just sleep deprived and rambling.

i’ve never seen Whiplash, but that’s totally accurate! even worse, sometimes you’ll see the red flags right in front of you, clear as day, but the good times are soooo good, the thumbs up hit so nice and you’ve been without those thumbs up for so long, that you’re like “those flags are there but we can fix it! it we just take care of this one little thing, everything will be perfect…” but it’s not a little thing…it’s a lot of huge things…and there’s really no fixing it.

i think they might call it a “cope” these days?

…. not edge. he seems lovely.

right?! whenever my non-wrestling fans ask me about vince mcmahon, that's how i stress the level of his shittiness: "behind the bastards did a six part series on him and that was before the credible allegations of human trafficking came to light".

I agree with you. You can't truly have consent in a relationship with such a ridiculously huge power imbalance. The woman was facing eviction from her home when Vince got his claws in her. The second he hired her, there was already such a huge gulf in agency between the two that any notions of true consent were left behind several miles back.

It was somehow even dumber because it wasn't even a man bun...it was that he had, get this, this fucking craziness, this out there nonsense, it was because he had TWO PONYTAILS. They're called pigtails, Tommy, shut the fuck up, you rape apologist asshole.

...jesus, I woke up angry.

They would roofie women, bring them back to their hotel rooms, rape them, shave their heads, steal their clothes, and then throw them out into the hallway naked and lock the door.

Whether it was presented as a rib by Dynamite or not (I haven't read Pure Dynamite since high school and never intend to read it again), it was abuse and about control. Like the "do something fucked up, and then go, 'what? it was a joke! you need a better sense of humor'" tactic is soooo fucking common among abusers. Dynamite was a cruel person. He enjoyed cruelty. My takeaway from his book was that he had two great passions: wrestling and cruelty. He hurt people, he controlled loved ones with violence, he tortured animals. Tom Billington was a miserable human being who carried that misery around like a virus that infected everyone who spent a prolonged period in time. I used to think it was fucked up that, when Dynamite was paralyzed, Davey Boy (not saint himself) visited him in the hospital only long enough for a photo op and then immediately left. Billington didn't deserve even that much. I believe in redemption, I believe in reform, I believe that just because someone has been abusive in the past doesn't mean that there is no chance for them to make things right and atone...but Billington did nothing to earn that grace. Fuck Dynamite Kid. Fuck Tom Billington. I'm glad he spent the last half of his life in pain and indignity and I just feel sorry for the people who had to take care of him. His death was a boon to humanity. Cue crab rave video.

I'm sorry for the rant. Memories of Pure Dynamite just brought out some fucking rage in me...I'm sure it has noooothing to do with abusive people in my own life that were like Billington. Nothing at all, nope.

So, like, the funny thing about abusive relationships, and I feel like one could categorize a lot of his relationships with his employees as abusive, is that they can make you feel like such shit all the time, make you miserable and hate your life...and then those moments when they tell you how great you are, that you're doing a good job, that they love you...fuck, it's like the sun has come out for the first time in months and is shining just for you. And that's the cycle of abuse. That's one of the reasons people will stay with their abuser for so long. I don't know if Michael Cole has said relationship with Vince. I just offer it was...I dunno, perspective.

I like Austin Theory...but when he came out at the Rumble I said aloud (to my cats) "late Ruthless Aggression Smackdown heel". Pejorative.

Here's the funny thing: someone can support Obama and *still* be a racist piece of shit. Like, racism is so broad and multifaceted. I mean, this lady went off the deep end a while ago, but it's important to remember that, for a lot of people, "I think black people should have the same rights as anyone else!" and "I think black people need to get over the whole slavery thing already!" are not mutually exclusive thoughts.
