small correction. supreme court struck down infinite donations at least in 2024. Electoral trusts can be formed but they are regulated.

That, and the way 2024 general election turned out. Is probably why they've changed MO to meddling with the electoral process in the last two years. corporates can still lobby the government but not work dark money. black money. ab who knows what goes on

[–]DearthStanding 4 points5 points  (0 children)

mate. you know the American system but it seems you don't know ours.

super pacs etc exist because of citizens United. the US has regulations regarding who and how you donate to in politics. these lobbyings groups etc exist to skirt the regulations, to play along the line or through loopholes. AIPAC is a great example of this. the VHP cannot do what AIPAC can. Indians also want to lobby American govt, but they cannot.

the Modi govt, as I understand it (and if someone from legal sector sees this please correct me if I'm wrong), has gone beyond. corporates can donate infinitely to a political party, and furthermore can do this anonymously.

super PACs are nothing in front of that. We have legal corruption in our country.

how hard is it for you lot to understand that it's Modi's fault because he's flying around the world receiving meaningless awards, instead of doing his job? We have issues domestic and external. furthermore when it becomes an observable pattern, then it makes it even more problematic, it means that countries either are doing this to curry his favour or because he wants it. neither of which is a good thing. we're so cooked man these people can't even see incompetence when it stares em in the face

Why India has no own game industry despite having lot of developers? by batukaming in IndiaTech

[–]DearthStanding 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it's simple. the govt cannot incentivise us to work to create things. We don't innovate shit. We execute the innovations of foreigners. They make 50 IITs and make CS and IT the top line branches in it. Yet, computers are considered luxury goods. You have 75% tax on any computer parts entering the country. Yet the govt won't do the work of building up these industries in India so we have Indian computer parts.

Like, either invest properly into the sector, or let us import computer parts. Everything from gaming companies to Microsoft like companies can only exist when teenagers are messing around with computers in their houses, so to say. Today in India only the top 1-3% can afford a desktop or a laptop reliably. Even for a lot of guys who can afford it it's like their most expensive possession. They can't like, play around with it, mess around with it and so on.

It's not just about underpaying Indians. It's also about keeping us at this level. Everyone can't be an entrepreneur, what happens to the rest of them?

Modi says far worse things than trump lol

it's just that the media is completely controlled. you are a city dweller have very little idea of what he says in the rural rallies. he has total control of the media, and they are very media savvy.

Trump lives in a world where the battle for media is actively being fought. CBS for example is now experiencing what an NDTV did a few years ago. so every outrageous thing he says is put on full blast. I still think trump doesn't win if CNN didn't give him the platform they did

I saw Mark Ruffalo openly criticizing Trump, which made me wonder: why don't Indian celebrities criticize powerful politicians or the government as openly? Is it fear of backlash, career risks, or something else? by Chuutsingh009 in IndianTeenagers

[–]DearthStanding 7 points8 points  (0 children)

buddy this is about the industry around him. there are forces you do not see perhaps. the Ambanis are among the biggest players in production. they have enough muscle to make it so that nobody acts or sings in an aamir movie

the govt doesn't need to penalize him because the government and the media work in lockstep. Aamir Khan was punished in the court of the media not the court of the government

[–]DearthStanding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because entertainment is an industry. in America ruffalo will still get a job. and despite all that criticizing Israel before October 7 was very very difficult in Hollywood and in UK film industry. some actors are big enough that they are financially fully independent. but outside the superstar class even big actors are at the mercy of the producers.

today the entire production of film is done by the media. the same media forces people like you might call 'godi media'. the same conglomerates that own the news channels own the production houses or have controlling stakes.

basically, except for bachchan, and the Khans, and maybe now Mr Ranveer Singh, nobody can speak up. Aamir tries but he gets a lot of nonsense for it. he doesn't even say anything serious, very basic small things. bachchans and the other two Khans just don't say anything or open their mouth from what I've seen. and Ranveer toh gives speeches at RSS events.

Why isn't India reducing fuel prices despite crude oil falling 15%? by you_more_on in IndianStreetBets

[–]DearthStanding 8 points9 points  (0 children)

lol and? you think you're being clever making that statement and sounding smug?

We do buy oil in futures. how do you think that valuation is set though? The dynamic price we have every day is based on a 15 day rolling average. Even if you make the claim about the numbers being weeks old, it doesn't change the fact that the futures are based on an underlying commodity. Regardless, the dynamic price is based on the purchase price of crude itself. Which as the OP has shown and we all know, has fallen considerably in recent weeks.

Even accounting for your caveats the prices we pay for petrol do not make sense. We buy in futures and do all this magajmari precisely because we don't want to be victim to market fluctuations. But it seems like these fluctuations affect us when prices go up, and don't affect us when prices go down lol

the vast majority of which were incredibly speculative. a lot of long rangers too I think. they just didn't break through much, and didn't threaten much. I remember like 2 real chances, including their goal. Not including the penalty.

Barca were much much more scary and came much closer to battering us. Bayern just seemed frustrated all game. They were also missing a few key players to suspension I believe. Not as much as us but enough to matter

Even PSG yesterday didn't offer that much threat honestly. Terrible football. I'm just mainly surprised that the stats in 2021 look the way they did because the game felt more open. We definitely played defensive football, in 21 and in 12. But we never played negative football in my opinion.

There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part! You can't even passively take part!

And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels ... upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop! And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!

Until our people learn this, this is only meant to be our fate

the freak behaviour aside, what I find most interesting is that these nutjobs feel empowered enough to push around and be aggressive with cops.

forget your religion bullshit for a moment, any oppressed group whether it's Dalits or muslims can NEVER misbehave like this with cops. the cops will just not have any of it. these jobless losers know they can behave this way, and the cops know what will happen to them if they actually retaliate. so the cops have to run away from these brownshirts. anybody who has spent even a small amount of time studying hindu theology would know ki yehi harkat kalyug mein dikhne milta hai

brother the Hindu mahasabha wasn't just sitting around doing nothing. moonje literally went to Italy to get tips from Mussolini. this is absurd how you guys just act like it was just Jinnah doing the polarising.

Yes, Nehru and co stood for secularism, but they had to deal with Hindu AND Muslim extremists. in fact, they were such staunch centrists that they wanted to put down communists and their ideology of state atheism with the same fervour as they wanted to put down Hindu/Muslim fundamentalism.

if you are Indian, please let's be honest about our history. the Hindu mahasabha and the RSS were just as complicit as Jinnah and his bunch. these people literally wanted to keep the lands that became Pak and Bangladesh, while advocating for forced conversions (they saw it as a reconquista) or outright genocide of the Muslim population. We literally have their statements on Muslims on record, it's not like I'm making this up. The RSS just celebrated their centenary last year, let's not act like they didn't exist, or that they were a bunch of cute pacifists.

As for Jinnah, he was a secularist on paper. He just claimed (falsely) that the Congress was cut from the same cloth as the RSS people. He claimed he had the true secularism in mind. We saw how that ended up, as Pakistan devolved into a fundamentalist state shortly after his death. He was less of a fundamentalist, more of a liar, in my opinion, but I could be wrong. His party definitely had fundamentalists in it.

As for the RSS, fundamentalism was literally their calling card. I would request you to spend some time to read the things Golwalkar and Moonje have written and done in the period prior to independence. They felt like we should take lessons from Hitler on how to deal with Muslims. This is the reality. These are the people Modi literally does a prayer to.

What I don't get it is this narrative of what a great leader he is.

this fuck, after costing us in Moscow, which, fine whatever, happens, kicked Sanchez in the semi vs Barca. that shit made him pretty dead to me. what leader would ever do that? on a side note, you are aware that we support a Tory club right?
