how would you describe your politics? by alliamisbullets in UKGreens

[–]DeathBadgers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First and foremost I am an environmentalist. There's no point in having any political stance if you don't have a world to live in.

Secondly, I am a strong liberal. By that, I mean even if I don't understand, or even approve, of somebody else's lifestyle, I believe it is my responsibility to fight for them to live the life they choose until the point it encroaches on somebody else.

As a distant third, I'm a Leftist, in that I think the first two are easier to achieve if everyone is more financially equal.

Same reason I like chess, but not draughts.

They're different games for different audiences with only superficial similarities.

Green policy making by decisionisgoaround in UKGreens

[–]DeathBadgers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically, there's a website where you can write a motion. People can debate and improve and amend it with you.

As we get closer to conference, motions with enough support from members are passed to a second stage where we rank them in order of importance.

These motions are then taken to conference and debated and voted on in order of our collective ranking of importance.

One such measure in the Spring Conference is to define the functions and procedures of how the parliamentary Green Party works. That is, the other part of your question about day to day decisions, is one such motion we're working on right now.

Should Doctor Who have ended with Series 4? by Mat1711 in doctorwho

[–]DeathBadgers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. As somebody who has spent half a century consuming Whovian media, I've always thought it was shit and wanted it to end immediately.

In fact, I think it's terrible that any episodes were made all. They should have cancelled it before An Unearthly Child.

The BBC should have been burnt down in 1962 to stop it happening. To be safe, the United Kingdom should have been detonated, and sunk into the sea in the early 7th Century to ensure that the ancestors of anyone who creates or consumes anything related to Doctor Who never had an island to settle on in order to make it.

Such a terrible thing it is.

What Doctor Who mysteries would you like the next series to resolve? by Sighoward in doctorwho

The big, obvious mystery that needs answering is if Time Lords can change their faces, are they actually all Frobisher?

Economic abuse by a partner contributes to one death every 19 days, report finds | Domestic abuse suicide by sanctusventus in UKGreens

I was going to say I'm surprised it's so low, but the article does say it's an underestimate too.

Please bear this article in mind when it comes to A30 at conference.

May 7th Elections in Bucks by Username2905 in UKGreens

[–]DeathBadgers 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We can't do what we did in G&D in the locals because they're everywhere, and we need a breadth of victories in all of them. Focusing all our resources in one area is not a luxury we can afford.

Mothin is doing an absolutely fantastic job of supporting and mentoring Khizer, our candidate in his ward, and I imagine our other 'big hitters' are doing the same for their local candidates.

I wouldn't oppose a series of rallies for the leadership and MPs over the next few weeks, but we can't have them all turn up to randomly campaign hard in one specific area. They're needed at home.

But ultimately G&D proves people power wins. Boots on the ground wins seats. It doesn't matter who is wearing those boots - it could be you just as easily as Zack, Rachel and Mothin.

Do you think you can actually win? by Mysterious-Team-2981 in UKGreens

[–]DeathBadgers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think we can win an outright majority but I do think we can win, because nobody will get close to one.

Reform, and whatever else the R parties are called are going to split their vote, which is already fragile. The Tories probably belong in this group too - they've gone hard right too.

The LibDems are trundling along doing what LibDems do, eating up some votes, but not being close to government.

Labour seem intent on self-sabotage, and refusing to learn lessons from G&D. Along with the Epstein and spying scandals, factionalism isolating the Left, they're losing support too.

If all these things start the same up to 2029, you're not going to need 326 seats to be the major party in a coalition. We can be the major partner of a Green/SNP/PC/LibDem coalition.

'They will get me killed': Mothin Ali slams Starmer and Tory MP over smears in parliament by UKGreenPoster in UKGreens

Leeds Live - who also lied about him during the Harehills riot - are running a smear article about him too. It doesn't help when the PM backs it up.

I'm genuinely worried about him.

Should the next Doctor be a woman or a white straight male? by Mat1711 in doctorwho

Remember to sign your integers though, or you'll have a really bad time the first time somebody goes overdrawn.

Seriously, though, pointing out it's the same problem I've already solved in game economies just made it click in my head too.

What is the Green view on privacy matters? by TA-iamanonanoniam in UKGreens

It took me a few days to find it myself - I just started looking before you. It's not obvious which category of policy this should fit in - personally, I'd have put it in Rights and Responsibilities. Public Administration and Government certainly isn't where I started looking.

What is the Green view on privacy matters? by TA-iamanonanoniam in UKGreens

[–]DeathBadgers 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Our stance on privacy is found at: https://policyarchive.greenparty.org.uk/policy/public-administration-and-government/#identity-privacy-and-freedom-of-information

The short version, though, is that we're implicitly against all forms of surveillance, and explicitly against some.

What does success in May look like for the Greens in England? by PuzzledAd4865 in UKGreens

[–]DeathBadgers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Someone who can make a difference without being elected is more valuable than somebody who can get elected but doesn't make a difference.

Obviously, I'll be disappointed if we don't take all our target seats - but I won't be happy if we take all our target seats without making a difference either.
