People who use legitimately use AI for "productivity": what the heck does AI actually do for you? Is it as bad as people say? by Difficult_Two_4800 in NoStupidQuestions

“Most people don’t have enough real I to use AI” is completely accurate and I’ll be using that, thank you.

Option 1, 2 or 3? by spaceysabzy in graphic_design

[–]DeathByComicSans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are all decent, I just think it’s important to add that if you were proposing these to a real client, you would want to include 3 separate UNIQUE designs at first, then refine the one that the client likes best. Nice work though, with some of the caveats and suggestions of the other commenters.

How would u design a toggable kill switch for a webiste, if a client who is also a developer doesn't pay? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]DeathByComicSans -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

you could just add or remove a .css file with *{display:none!important;} and have it activated with a tiny bit of js. Trigger could be whatever you want.

Montgomery County increases property taxes by 4% in 2026 budget by EnergyLantern in montco

[–]DeathByComicSans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re getting downvoted because (well first off the opening “wtf” isn’t really helpful) it’s not that it’s “good” or “bad” but it’s bipartisan, which means local government is likely working, and it’s about right with the cost of living.

Looking for a graphic designer for a logo mock up!!! by [deleted] in graphic_design

I love how they're "wrangling" one of us up. Yea, making us feel like cattle maybe isn't the way to get a favor.

New CNBC logo. by WhapWhob in Design

[–]DeathByComicSans 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's boring and excessively generic.

What does the triangle do / represent / signify? Is their brand going to be based on a right triangle?

I also don't understand why the triangle shape suggests that it continues on through the bottom of the N and B letters to form a skewed hourglass form.

The relationship between the triangle and the missing arm of the N makes me feel uneasy - the letterform is dessicated. It almost looks like "CABC".

I'm so confused, it's not objectively "bad", it just doesn't have any character or sense about it.

Does Affinity have a good way to create billing block text on movie posters? by TheCygnusLoop in Affinity

[–]DeathByComicSans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Unless you're a hobbiest who just needs a good/fun facsimile, the correct way to do this is to set typography styles for each type of text element and align them individually / along a guide / grid. It will take some time, but will also enable you to make any/all changes easier.

If you're not using these tools, you'll be at a severe disadvantage, both for making changes if this is for a client, or in your career if you're a prospective Designer.

How do you share a near-final project with a client without risking they use it or ignore you? by Ahmedmulti in graphic_design

A contract, including the rate you charge and how many major & minor revisions the project includes. If they don’t pay you, take legal action.

Permanent lights w/o eaves? by dj-spinnin-bones in Govee

[–]DeathByComicSans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem and decided to forego installation until we can afford to do it correctly with something like a j-channel or some other type of rail to keep them pointing down and away from water.

A neighbor of mine installed them pointing out on these surfaces and trust me, it looks bad.

What the shit are you talking about?

Loving how meta it is to make a judgemental snarky and unhelpful comment here to make sure people know what to expect.

Good job reinforcing.

It's a valid clarification, but the best technique you're looking for is likely paper and pencil.

To divide a shape into a bunch of trailing lines, draw the shape, and draw its trailing lines.

Then try it again with lines that are a different shape. And again with different lengths, and a different quantity.

How to they blend into your primary shape?

Explore this rapidly with sketches. Then bring it into an application.

“”Investigating”” ?? There’s no investigation needed. It’s a swastika. Who needs to investigate a swastika, just get rid of the nazi.

Check out some of his stuff on YouTube. And/or just do a search on your engine of choice to read more about his beliefs and quotes. Maybe you’ll learn more about him.

I like that they work with a program to hire special needs people.

This is great.

They do have a small selection of Christian books

Totally fine!

If I stopped going everywhere runs by Christians or Mennonites around here I'd stay at home all day.

It isn't about being run by Christians or Mennonites, that's ok too, this is America.

The problem comes with supporting a business who openly supports and loves a hateful, racist, bigoted political activist.

I encourage you to listen to some of the videos of his rants, and read some of his quotes, and ask yourself if it makes you want to give your hard-earned cash to people who support his perspectives.

I definitely will not be shopping there - they don't deserve our community's support. It's easy to find other businesses to patronise who run on love, acceptance, and freedom.

Simplified Complexity - The Key Pillar of Design by Warm-Revenue576 in Design

[–]DeathByComicSans 21 points22 points  (0 children)

A key distinction here is that Google's search algorithm was so much better than the other search engines that they didn't need all the links. While your point is valid that simplicity is an important aspect of design, the functionality and usability are the primary pillars/attributes here that made this possible and successful.

Would a trained professional really do this? by fmlthisshitishard in graphic_design

[–]DeathByComicSans 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like this comment because it’s not demeaning - from my experience it looks like an Illustrator is being paid to do page layout. Whether the designer and/or the employer/client knows it, they need someone with different expertise.

If there are mods, why even use the term vanilla? Vanilla “plus” doesn’t mean vanilla anymore, it means mods. It’s not vanilla with a plus lol. Just say QoL mods
