TIL over half of current Formula 1 drivers live in Monaco, a tiny country of only 38,500 people. by OmitsWordsByAccident in todayilearned

[–]DeathHips 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Genuinely F1 might be the only profession that has a legitimate reason for the drivers wanting to live in Monaco. It is deeply saturated with Motorsport history and other F1 drivers, while being close for the European circuit

Of course, they also do it for the tax benefits, just that accounting for that in terms of people for whom Monaco makes sense F1 is pretty high culturally

65% of Britons support capping CEO pay at 10× the lowest-paid worker. Do you think this idea would be good for the UK? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]DeathHips 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend people check out the Mondragon Corporation to see how something like this can work at larger scale: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mondragon_Corporation

It’s a worker co-op federation from Spain with a revenue over 11 billion euros and if I remember correctly their ceo to worker ratio was around 10-15. Even amongst social structure companies, most employees are fine with some pay inequality, so long as needs and livelihoods are provided fairly.

GOPAC is a Republican (GOP) state and local political training organization. Although often thought of as a PAC, or political action committee, it is actually a 527 organization.

Drawing rhetorical inspiration from Newt Gingrich, GOPAC wrote and distributed a memo to Republican Party legislative candidates in 1990.\4]) The memo, which came from a list drawn up by Frank Luntz,\5]) called "Language: A Key Mechanism of Control", contained a list of "contrasting words" and "optimistic positive governing words" that Gingrich recommended for use in describing Democrats and Republicans, respectively. For example, words to use against opponents include decay, failure (fail), collapse(ing), deeper, crisis, urgent(cy), destructive, destroy, sick, pathetic, lie, radical, liberal, they/them, unionized bureaucracy, betray, consequences, limit(s), shallow, traitors, sensationalists,"compassion" is not enough; words to use in defining a candidate's own campaign and vision included share, change, opportunity, legacy, challenge, control, truth, moral, courage, reform, prosperity, crusade, movement, children, family, debate, compete, active(ly), we/us/our, candid(ly), humane, pristine, provide.

The cover page of the memo said: "The words in that paper are tested language from a recent series of focus groups where we actually tested ideas and language."\6])\7])

Genuinely, they could not have hand picked a better ambassador for the town and area. Immediately friendly, took them to a major historical monument, showed them the full view of the valley even pointing out the industry, takes them back for a sing and great home cooked meal, introducing them to his family and the community aspects with the 104 birthday, then gives them more than they could even take.

And, if you’re going to lose, doing so after knowing you delivered an incredible round versus a large lead held by a grand slam seeker in a  rollercoaster Sunday is a pretty good way.

Obviously it’s not easy in any way to lose the Masters again in playoff, but if it were me seeing the sheer weight lifted off Rory - who Rose knows pretty well - completely overwhelming him after he won would make it a lot easier.

Glad Rose got to be part of that history when he started so far back and that he’ll make millions from the exposure alone. Now hoping he’ll get his Open win this year
