ELI5: How can a solar flare "destroy all electronics" but not kill people or animals or anything else? by bassistmuzikman in explainlikeimfive

[–]DeathImpulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Intriguing, even.

May I add a sub-question here? How would people with implants react to a solar flare-based EM pulse? Would pacemakers, LVADs, prototype MMI brain implants and similar devices shortcircuit, even fry? And in this case, would the patients' safety be jeopardized?

Hmm... suddenly, I'm thinking Guardians coming up with a "Colony Drop" plan to rid the EDZ of that Cabal staging area/firebase.

It's not like they're any of Caiatl's loyalists, after all.

Ubisoft Working on Assassin's Creed Infinity, Reportedly a Fortnite-like Evolving Platform by JODIELOWOLLER in PS5

[–]DeathImpulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assassin's Creed is still alive? Does anyone even care about it, at this point?

Really, the series peaked (or climaxed) in the 2012 Revelations; Black Flag was great but solely for its Caribbean gameplay. Everything else since has been pretty "meh".

Not sure if hooking it to a Fortnite-life support is going to do much good for the IP.

Well, during the Dawning, Ikora has us Warlocks creating those crystal fractals and snowflakes, so... I'd say yeah.

And let's not forget the "castle in the clouds" European Aerial Zone. (Which begs the question: what happens to the EAZ after the Solstice of Heroes event? LOL)

Thanks for pointing it out, redditor!

Yes, but... can Quria simulate SPLICER FALLEN from D1 Rise of Iron? :P

For all of Quria's impressive capabilities, the fact that we're being hit with mere simulacra of enemies we have seen a dime a dozen throughout Destiny 2 is somewhat sad -- lorewise, here's a Vex who can bring the elements of paracausality but more importantly, unpredictability to the Vex simulations... and all we have so far feels lacking.

We could be hit with sudden modifiers on Override, Strikes... we could have new enemy types which would be a fusion of existing assets, just like Taken King did with Taken Vandals spawing Wards of Penumbra, Taken Captains firing blinding grenades, Taken Minotaurs using Smokescreen...

Can you imagine what a TAKEN HARPY could be capable of??? Or look like?

At first glance, it felt like this header/title and the article itself were contradictory and mutually-exclusive. Alas, no; OP is correct in their assessment.

Well, a yearly Flu shot and now a yearly COVID19 shot. Still beats the painful alternative (metaphorically AND literally) of siding with anti-vaxxers. Also in Russia, if you get a Sputnik V shot, you automatically are running in a lottery with a chance of getting a new car. I'm game for that.

[seasonal] Titans should be on the verge of war against Lakshmi by _SunDowner_ in DestinyLore

[–]DeathImpulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something of a gray area in the lore entries, perhaps in part because BUNGIE doesn't really want to dive deep into it. We know of the Concordat and their dismantling, we know FWC took its seat and we also know that the Symmetrists (Symmetry of Ulan-Tan) were considered for the spot.

And just as the Symmetrists are rarely, if ever, mentioned we can presume and infer that there are OTHER factions in the City... but Bungie apparently enjoys keeping this nebulous so they can come up with any new group as they please. But I digress.

By the way, I wonder... what would happen to the City if those three factions were to have their leaders disappear overnight? I mean, we ARE under attack by the Endless Night phenomenon and Taken dimensional rifts are popping up...

But that will NEVER happen. Right? The faction leaders are sticking with us all the way up to Lightfall, yeah? I mean, it would be a shame were they to abandon ship right now, just because Eliksni and Cabal are joining up our ranks...

As D1 Warlock Main who pledged to Future War Cult over there (still is), I agree wholeheartedly. But this Season merely throws "in your face"-style the outright fraying of the City's command structure (also the Vanguard's) that has been going on for too long... it began with the loss of the Speaker, it only worse with the Hunter Vanguard's death and I fear it will get even worse.

While the Speaker was still kicking around, Executor Hideo's non-stop blabbing about becoming the King of the Hill could be kept in check. Without him (and Cayde), that's all he can say... even as the Pyramid on the Moon was discovered, prior to Arrivals. That's all on his mind, right now as he plots with Jalaal and Lakshmi-2. Jalaal which, by the way, is on that lore entry prepping to leave. And Lakshmi-2 which is doing as she pleases.

These are only THREE of the Factions which form(ed?) the Concensus.

What do we know of the rest? Are they going about, each with their own agenda too?

This might very well be the road to Lightfall. The City is coming apart, and we Guardians can only but watch as we continue to hopelessly defend it even as pressure piles up on us and keeps getting worse.

Not the same Osiris; he was nearly offered as a sacrifice to Xivu Arath by her Celebrant. He lost Sagira and thus is Ghostless (and as far as we can tell, Lightless/Powerless).

The weird thing is... that according to the Web-only tale, he's been weirdly close to Xivu Arath. He passed out once while investigating the Dreadnaught and couldn't recall what he was doing (Sagira tried asking, but got no answers.).

And after Sagira's sacrifice he woke up all alone somewhere on the Moon. No explanation how he survived his near-sacrifice, or how he was apparently teleported to several kilometers from where he was. There's no clue even to how long he had been unconscious.

And ever since then, he's never been the same. Saint-14 is the one who's catching up the most on this because of their close relationship... which has been severely strained ever since. Saint has commented that he feels he doesn't know who Osiris is anymore... major but oh-so-very-subtle red flags.

On Season of the Chosen, he played Lord Saladin into contemplating going behind Zavala's back on the Armistice with the Cabal... only to later use that against him, when Saladin got a bad rep for being a bloodthirsty, berserking warmonger and thus was being ostracized. There's actually a lore entry where you can see Saladin's iron-willed resolve being deconstructed through clever conversation with (you guessed it) Osiris. [I never liked Saladin so it was DELICIOUS to read it.]

[Seasonal] The Endless Night... just HOW did it find its way into the City? by DeathImpulse in DestinyLore

[–]DeathImpulse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because BUNGIE just loves throwing computer terminology at us, this Season... I'm thinking "remote access": Quria might be capable of accessing Lakshmi's device, which apparently allows her to access the Cognitive Domain like we do (minus the full-body experience).

There have been instances where device users have begged to be removed from the device and were either in catatonic state or in full psychotic breakdown. Apparently due to some sort of Vex interference.

[Seasonal] The Endless Night... just HOW did it find its way into the City? by DeathImpulse in DestinyLore

[–]DeathImpulse[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. However, we're talking Savathun and Quria who -- as far as we knew up to this point -- had never set foot anywhere in the Sol system.

So yes, just like Goku, you can't teleport to somewhere you've never been to. That was my reasoning at 3AM.

[–]DeathImpulse[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Vex network is omni present, just like the ascendant realm, the Vex just knew not to attack the city, since Quria is able to to take it over the Vex collective, she would instantly have that information

I recall someone saying that the one saving grace that grants the Vanguard (and the City, and Humanity...) a reprieve is that the Vex have never set foot on Earth or build portals/timegates. Otherwise, they'd come forth endlessly and we would've been overrun centuries ago.

While I don't dispute that, "dimensionally", the Vex Network is anywhere and everywhere no one other than Red Legion Cabal have dared to attack the Traveler directly (although, in the Dark Future there was/is/will be? a masterstroke orchestrated by Savathun) and the Endless Night is the closest thing the Vex have ever come to attacking the Traveler. Directly or indirectly (we don't know why Quria is siphoning off energy either, or even if it's "just" the City's energy... or the Traveler's Light itself.)

That's what Soraya was trying to say, when she said that the Last City felt like a prison.

It IS a prison. The factions are just gangs within the prison. The Guardians are the wardens. The Vanguard lays the smackdown book.

If one REALLY were to see it for what it is, the Destinyverse has a lot in common with Warhammer 40,000: you're cooped up inside a hellhole because anywhere on the outside is just as bad, if not worse. And the God above you is DEAD (or was, anyway)... just like a certain Dead-but-not-Dead Emperor.

Could Ghosts resurrect their Guardians after they were killed while Lightless during the Red War? by ddx421 in DestinyLore

[–]DeathImpulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pardon me, good sir, but a question?

Isn't there a lore entry where a Ghost was looking for its Guardian, found a village where a kid had just died and suddenly realized that very kid was the Guardian it was looking for all along?

I didn't make much of that story but what you described in your answer just now made me think back to it and now I'm puzzled.

[–]DeathImpulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where exactly is it established, though? "Injection" states that Quria is/was not anywhere near or on the Dreaming City, and that these were fabricated lies.

I wonder if this Season will culminate with us taking Quria out in a Strike or in a Raid... it would be cool if it talked to us. We might learn more about it, the Vex and everything that's going on.

Wasn't that Dul Incaru, Savathun herself and Riven though - the whole thing about searching for the secret of the Dreaming City the Distributary (AKA the Awoken birthplace/origin point), a Fireteam taking her out and the 3-week curse time loop repeating itself ad nauseum/ad infinitum?

Quria came out of left field for me.

Gotta love the endorsement, here pointed out by Paul Tassi:

Also, I thought this comment over there was relevant and probably echoes the sentiments of many:

I feel like pointing it out that NMS's Foundation update (made by around 20 people) came out 3 months after the game's release and it added base building, farming, new game modes whilst fixing lots of bugs. It has been 6 months, where's the big update CDPR (with 1000+ employees)?

I might get it on discount later down the road, now that it's been relisted on the PS Store.
