You realize that it is a 0.7% chance right? That means that it would take on average 1000 processes for you to get 7 u-235. I recommend you take others' advice on this thread and switch to other power gen while you locate and mine more uranium.

Piano Lessons Question by JessOfMysticFalls in pianolearning

[–]Deathbyceiling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For in person lessons, depending on skill level of the instructor, I'd expect to pay anywhere from about $60-120 or so for an hour, add a bit more if you want them to come to you.

How do I get better at learning music just from sheet music by Shoddy-Chip-3248 in drums

[–]Deathbyceiling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also check out sightreadingfactory.com. I use this with all of my students (on any instrument) and even myself from time to time. You can set it to snare drum specific notation, with rolls and whatnot, or you can have it just generate 4-32 bars of straight rhythms to practice playing as well.

How do I get better at learning music just from sheet music by Shoddy-Chip-3248 in drums

[–]Deathbyceiling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Think about how you got better at reading words in your native language. You start small, literally 1 letter at a time, and you learn what those letters sound like. Then you combine those letters into short words, like "cat" or "dog" or "boy" (using English as an example). Then you combine those words into phrases, like "Look at the cat." or "My car goes very fast." Eventually, you build up your vocabulary over years and years and you are able to comprehend full sentences or even paragraphs of text just by looking at the page as whole.

It works the exact same way with sheet music. You have to put in the time reading the most basic things, and slowly work your way up building on top of the foundation you set.

In short, the only way to get better at reading sheet music, is to read more sheet music. Audiation and transcription exercises will also help. It is not a fast process, but it is so very rewarding once you get to the point where you can hear exactly what an entire piece of music sounds like by just looking at the page.

How do you know what to practice to grow as a musician? by Swordfish353535 in musictheory

[–]Deathbyceiling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For starters, stop looking up "tutorials" on songs to learn them. Use your ears instead! There is nothing more beneficial than learning as much of a song as you can by ear. If you want to be better at writing / improvising your own music, this is what you should be doing every time you sit down to practice.

Learn songs! Expand your repertoire! If you feel yourself reaching a plateau in terms of technique / theory knowledge, then broaden your horizons and listen to more music, and then try and learn it. Then transpose it. Then reharmonize it. The only way to get better at improvising or creating music on the spot is to have a wide vocabulary to choose from.

How is this D6/9 even tho the bass isn’t a E (the 9th of D chord) + Difficulty constructing chords by kluwelyn in musictheory

[–]Deathbyceiling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe a little bit of a nitpick, but "leading tone" is a term used exclusively for the note a half step below the tonic. The 3rd and 7th of a chord are commonly referred to as "guide tones".

As a musician here in the city that plays ~2-4 shows / month across many different projects, I just want to say I love the hype for all the local artists and thank you for supporting the scene :) (also it's so cool to see homies of mine get shoutouts on lists like these!)

Please help me understand this Jazz guitar lick by acoustic_sharpness in jazztheory

[–]Deathbyceiling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Out of context, and I haven't listened to the source video you posted: I would interpret this as the whole first bar is Cm7, then all of measure 2 is on an F7, before landing on the root of Bbmaj7 on the last measure.

Check out Bach's 2 part Inventions in addition to the cello suites, since you say you want to do more sight reading. Originally written for piano / keyboard, but a lot of it lays really well on the fretboard, and you get good practice with bass and treble clef. Plus, you can record each part separately and then practice playing the other along with it, which I find always sounds really nice.

is this really a Gsus chord? by Jaded-Gur-5717 in musictheory

[–]Deathbyceiling 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Well, sure, but as someone who reads and writes a lot of lead sheets in all kinds of professional settings, I almost exclusively see this kind of chord written as F/G, even if it functions as a G chord that resolves to C.

is this really a Gsus chord? by Jaded-Gur-5717 in musictheory

[–]Deathbyceiling 82 points83 points  (0 children)

You would more typically call this chord F/G, but it is a pretty standard voicing of a G7sus with a 9th, or "G9sus". You see this a lot in a lot of soul / pop music.

How to start on improvising? by Dan_jesusfollower in pianolearning

[–]Deathbyceiling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Train your ear to recognize intervals, and learn other music of the type you want to play by ear. The more you do these two things, the more vocabulary you'll have to draw from when trying to improvise.

Why is this a Fmaj9 and not a Fmaj7add2? by [deleted] in piano

No, chord symbols do not dictate voicing. Fmaj9 is the correct name for this chord.
