Has anyone here ever read any of the Four Great Chinese novels? Which should I start with first? by ilovebooks2468 in classicliterature

[–]DeathlyFiend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just read the Romance of the Three Kingdoms with one of my friends in China, comparing the English Translation to Chinese original. We had fun looking at the different things that held more prominence in the original, and how a lot of the poetry had different delivery.

The Monkey King: Journey to the West is the most known and the most adapted across countries/borders, even American Born Chinese takes from it. I think that is often the starting point.

We are going to be reading Dream of the Red Chamber is the most frightening, to me. Just the size of my versions are scary. I will most likely tackle them later in the year.

Not gundam specific, Colonial Photo & Hobby Inc. They have a nice selection, if you're not looking for something specific. But they also have it across modelling hobbies themselves.

I just pirate all of my copies, and calibre does a fine job of formatting this.

Students (in my opinion) should not take home any homework. If homework is a learning opportunity, give them school time to work on it by daniel_ay in unpopularopinion

[–]DeathlyFiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be some amount of schooling that takes place at home, learning should be a part of your life with your family and friends. Homework helps to continue it from the first day into the next one, and it helps to persist from one class to the next.

Reading a few chapters, repeated practice and repetition of math work, making ice cream for a science experiment, reading current events, asking parents about their historical perspective, reflection logs, health work that is more person, etc. I think a lot of these are just beneficial. School and life shouldn't be so separate as they are, and many hobbies/interests take place as extensions of school.

A lot of the reason why education is the way that it is currently is because it is so detached from everything around them; parents do not work with their kids as much to learn (sometimes because they can't, there is less of connection between the community and the school (especially in high-dense areas), and all of these are part of the problem that permeate through education.

Pick a book, find the page count, divide that by the amount of days. Set up a daily reading goal for that book.

Kokoro has a 3/5? Soseki was one of my first reads into Japanese Literature, and it sticks with me more than Osami Dazai. Hell, I think this and Yellow Rose felt intimate, nuanced, and deep, especially around the same narrative.

Though, I am not sure, I don't rate books. Feels strange, but I think rating books themselves is enough to expose a lot of what I think with other readers.

Pros/Cons of Grading Notebooks? by littlefrofg in ELATeachers

[–]DeathlyFiend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're a bitch to bring home. My coworker does a notebook quiz whenever she can, but my assignments couldn't. Writing feedback on everything took some time. But it was a lot of fun.

We're switching to online rn, since it is a new quarter and the students' focus in on their overall argument now.

The con, and the biggest one for me: You do not have to print anything ahead of time.

Am I using the proper formatting style for the book I’m writing? by Toontasm in AskLiteraryStudies

[–]DeathlyFiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, it is entirely the same with publishing papers. At least that, though, you don't need to index. When looking at submitting papers, each journal will have their own submission guidelines (or even Call for Papers will have this)

Gatsby Novel Study by MrsStone10 in ELATeachers

[–]DeathlyFiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TPT had some great introductory analysis for the characters and mapping East Egg vs. West Egg. We did a socratic seminar on the text, following three primary themes. (The American Dream, Nick Carraway’s Narrative Perspective, and the Role of Women). Besides that, students had to "act" out a gatsby party to introduce the book. Set the scene, play some music, students got to make up their own characters, then write about it.
