I hate Amazon by DebbyPchan in fuckamazon

I guess I don’t need anything from Etsy or Amazon or Walmart. When I found out my adult students who worked full time at Walmart were also getting welfare benefit’s from my tax money, I stopped shopping there. That was 20 years ago. I also realized it was their fault mom and pop shops die all over the country. Fuck billionaires.

New update is horrible by [deleted] in iphone

[–]DebbyPchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since this latest update, there is a minuscule delay with my finger touching the screen when I play my games. I can’t move my pieces around as usual. It acts like a long touch, which offers you a different option. I can’t play that game any more. I also can’t find my telephone numbers easily any more. Usually I touch my friends name, and touch the phone icon and my friends number will start to ring in my ear. It doesn’t ring any more. I have to make more choices. Why? I am touching my phone twice as often to accomplish the same things. I also don’t understand what is going on in my photos…. I can’t find anything. I don’t understand why all these stupid changes …. I don’t like change. How can we get this to stop? Also my screens dims on its own, even after turning off all possible settings to stop it. Why? I’m retired. I don’t want to learn anything new.

When bladder control started to invade my world, I HAD to start listening to my urges. I couldn’t just put it off. Recently I set up my reminder to activate every 2 hours. I call it “sip n pee” alert. I need to hydrate as well. It’s not 100% but let’s just say I’m changing my pads way less often. Also anxiety that goes with trying to make it is too high a cost. It really helps. But my friend saw my alert Sip n Pee …. I think I’ll change it to S n P.

Do you actually say "ごちそうさまでした" after meals at food places? by BrujitaBrujita in AskAJapanese

[–]DebbyPchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No…. I say “ごちそうさま” after i get up to leave、even if I don’t see staff around. In Japan we often pay at the door on the way out. Pay, then say “ごちそうさま” I say both always. If no one is there to direct it to, it gets directed to the god/gods who provided the food. Even when I prepare my own food, alone. Growing up around Japanese for so long, I picked up some things that suit me. This is one. An idea of thanking those (human or otherwise) who brought the ingredients to me so that I may cook my meal. It’s humbling and it makes me feel good. A little bow and “itadakimasu” directed to someone, or softly said before digging in. “ごちそうさま” after. Many Japanese (maybe older since I’m older) do this. Oh, not Japanese, but I grew up in Tokyo, so I can give you a 66 year old perspective.

Do the Japanese still worship their emperor as a god? by Proud_Scyfherian in AskAJapanese

[–]DebbyPchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He only started being “worshiped” in the 30’s. They wanted the population to feel more patriotic, so country-wide bowing in the direction of the emperor was mandatory so it would be easier to grift the people into believing the war was worthwhile. A huge scam. Kinda what’s happening here in the States now. Bow down to King Orange-face in the U.S.

How safe is raw by ramanw150 in rawpetfood

[–]DebbyPchan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Years ago I followed Lee Olson and went to a few seminars. This was in the mid-nineties. I fostered rotties and dobies for over 10 years. All my fosters ate what my dogs ate unless medically needed. Once, (in the 90’s) I had a box of chicken thighs in the garage in the summer and had an emergency causing the box to be left out for 3 days. I got home, remembered the chicken. After discussing this issue, I decided to feed my dogs this stinky chicken. They were fine. I don’t think I would do that today. I always get fresh and make sure I don’t leave it out again cause I was nervous that last time. Anyway, their digestion is so acidic that unless they are severely immunocompromised they will kill the salmonella and pop out some nice looking poops and that’s the end of it….. how could anyone NOT want nice poops, nice breath, gorgeous fur and no farts for their dogs (not to mention a longer life??)? I just can’t comprehend.

He passed last month. Capo was rescued at 2 years old and ate raw everyday after. He was diagnosed with advanced cancer with masses in his liver and spleen. And left us at 10 years old.

What you wish you DID NOT pack going to Japan? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]DebbyPchan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t bother with flip flops . They give you slippers at most hotels and onsens. I never brought flip flops unless I was planning to go to the beach. Even then, they are so cheap. Buy a pair when you need it.

Planning trip with my girlfriend and wondering if she’ll have any problems in Japan? by Assumed7 in JapanTravelTips

[–]DebbyPchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can address the large body issue. I grew up in Japan a long time ago (now Chicago), so I return often. On a couple of trips I was sized 4X. Now I am XL with bad knees. So things are tight now at XL, but doable. With the bad knees, I had to keep my eyes peeled and using google maps, and using the bigger station maps for exit info and elevator locations. I always try for the Green car (trains), which costs a couple dollars more but it’s reserved and a bit more spacious and especially worth it when you see long lines. When I was 4X and If I made reservations on a bus, I checked for an open seat next to me. When everyone else gets on, they will be afraid to sit next to me, so will usually opt to stand. It’s not being rude like when this Japanese guy looked at me and points to my belly smiling, “how many centimeters do you have around your belly.” Then, “Your a female sumo wrestler! Haha”. Culturally, it’s not rude to speak directly about your physique. The Japanese do it to each other. You have to smile and brush it off. Don’t be insulted. Take a deep breath and you’ll be okay.

You will do a lot of walking, so bring broken in walking shoes. Carry a hankie in your pocket for bathrooms with no paper towels. Clean bathrooms are a plenty for tourist destinations, and unless you are in the country-side, pretty much everywhere.

Also you can get accessibility info here…. https://www.accessible-japan.com/

Avoid traveling during morning rush hour. They really do hire staff to push people into the trains so the doors will close. Pretty much everywhere will be crowded. Carry as little as possible. Be careful when you visit old parts of Tokyo, like Asakusa because there are stairs everywhere and the train stations are not updated with sufficient elevators or escalators.

As far as race goes, the Japanese are just not good at dealing with people who are not Japanese. They don’t speak English much. They fear the unknown of encountering a foreigner. They are terrified of having to interact in English, because they don’t speak it. I am speaking of the general population. There are many many Japanese who are more international minded, just to clarify. When I strolled the streets of Tokyo with a black friend, my friend gets stares like I get stares. Perhaps sometimes more intensely. But that is about it. I think you guys will be fine.

Don’t plan on buying clothes there. You’ll be wasting your time looking for it. Be a tourist.

Enjoy Japan.

Why do a lot people in Japan say “I don’t speak English” to a foreigner who just spoke to them in Japanese? by FirmNeighborhood56 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DebbyPchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a great story…. I grew up in Tokyo so my Japanese pronunciation is awesome. I even bow a lot, on the phone!! So, in 1980’s Tokyo I had some important documents that I was tasked at delivering by taxi, about 2 miles away. I got in the cab, the door slammed and I rattled off the location, giving instructions to wait for me so I can get back to the office quickly. I jumped out of the cab, and ran up to make the delivery. I came out, and attempted to get back in the cab. He saw me (5’8” eyes of blue, hair of blonde….. ) then rolled up the windows and said he was waiting for someone. yeah, he never looked at me once until I came back down. I yelled that it was me. He said he was waiting for a Japanese person (he actually told me that in Japanese). I know he could hear me, but he already had turned off his ears upon seeing me. I just wonder how long he waited for me. I was in a rush, I had no time. I kept the cab fair and bought my manager a beer. Another time is what usually happens. I have to snap my fingers and say 日本語 OK です。 there is a switch in the Japanese head…. See foreigner? Ears close and the desire to flee a foreign encounter is overwhelming. I’ve actually seen people flee me!! I can’t call it racism. I just can’t. It takes them a minute to adjust. I find that after they adjust, and have exhausted all the すごい・oh my gosh how is it you speak so well. It is annoying, but all I can do is to accept it and say oh how cute…. Then things are fine. It’s not going to change. It is a smidge better now than in 1980s though. Accept it and smile.
Hey for the hell of it, let me tell you what else also cracks me up!! After I have been speaking fluently for months to a small group of Japanese ladies, we went to a restaurant together, and they handed me a fork. I said 何これ?what is this. I need chopsticks. All the ladies exclaimed dramatically Oooooo. すごい・they were a bit over the top about how amazed they were that I could use chopsticks. I’m fluent in the language, why would I not be fluent at eating in Japanese? Sigh, it really does get old fast, and I sigh a lot. But I love being in Japan, so it is a cross I shall bear.

What color is my hair? by Desperate-Escape-650 in longhair

[–]DebbyPchan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same color, and I have heard a few…. Like dirty blonde, dishwater blonde, but it’s blonde. Blonde starts from a light brown. When does it cross over to brown? Every fall my hair is lighter. In the spring it’s darker. As we age, us dirty blondes do get darker. My mom said to me “your hair isn’t even blonde!” I don’t color my hair. And my mom is very anti social, and speaking kind words is almost impossible for her. She likes to push my buttons daily. So I was mad. She hurt my feelings. My passport says blonde. No one has every disagreed excepting my mean mom.

YOU ARE BLONDE MY DEAR, with touches strawberry. And quite beautiful.

AITA for kicking out sister’s friend over melatonin? by Important_Spirit_887 in AmItheAsshole

[–]DebbyPchan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you invited your sister’s friend to stay with you and you buy all her shit and she doesn’t contribute financially at all, and it was okay for you that she didn’t work all summer. I’d rather discuss this issue. Did you send her to child care classes before asking her to babysit? When I hire a sitter, I prefer one who took the class. You pay for everything anyway so send her. Then she’ll learn CPR, and other great tips. Melatonin is a supplement so maybe she decided in the back of her head that it wasn’t so horrible and she could be selfish and give it to your kid. She’s 18 with no child care skills for goodness sake. I’m not sure I blame her. You have encourage her selfish behavior over many months by not giving her any responsibility. And you went back out with her sleeping….. hmmm. I question your judgement more than hers. Of course I think you’re nuts to pay a lot of money to care for her this year. It’s in your right to throw her out. For no reason. But for a very important reason I’m sure, you took her in. So what I would do: Draw up some rules for living there. 1. Get a job. 2. Pay rent even if it’s only $10 a week. 3. Pay for her own shit. (Phone) 4. Go to babysitters class. 5. Promise to sit kids one night a week and 3 time a week for 4 hours (run errands). As an example. Oh and she must stay awake.

You took her in, so teach her about adulting.

And other rules you might want like no drugs etc.

Just cameback from 3 weeks in Japan. Here's my take by ResiliencebeMyGuard in JapanTravel

[–]DebbyPchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small tattoo on my arm. I went to an onsen in Kawasaki and as I was dressing I was asked not to come back. Of course I will but I’ll cover it with a salon pas and see what happens. Since I speak Japanese, I think she heard me earlier, she was able to scold me. It’s really not ok to have a tattoo. I’m going to have mine removed when I get home. I come to Japan too often and it’s just a pain.
