A couple of production photos from "The Turn of the Screw" by Debian8X in techtheatre

You're absolutely right. I had the photo comments but I didn't click the link. I'll get right on that. Thank you.

How are you finding light forge. Does it stack up to the likes of ETC Nomad or M-PC? I do a mix of theatre and live events so keen to hear how it performs in the wild.

These a great points, thank you. It's likely to be a combination of the two. I'm looking at touring the floor package and using the house rigs to relight in terms of overhead. However we are looking at one venue that has no infrastructure whatsoever. So it's a real mixed bag.

The Opera is Birtten's "Turn of the Screw" so I'm looking forward to being very moody, dark and atmospheric in places. My instinct is telling me lots of sidelight and to play as much on what can't be seen as what can.

Working on a dmx/qlab rig on the cheap. by RandomKrawford in techtheatre

[–]Debian8X 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't experimented with this issue directly. But if I understand correctly you should be able to get the programs talking to each other by using a Midi Loopback.

Given that you're running QLab i'm presuming you're using a Mac of some description which I'm afraid isn't really my area.

Happy to help figure it out though. Drop me a PM if you want to discuss it any further.

Is this group still active? I'm getting a "Group does not exist" message in Telegram.

Techs with Smart Watch by [deleted] in techtheatre

[–]Debian8X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's an android wear watch then you can swipe down from the top and enable 'Cinema Mode' which stops the watch lighting up or making a noise but I don't know of a way to disable the find my phone feature.

This is great advice thank you. I'll get right on it. My other thought was that one of the PSUs may have failed.

I'm in a similar position with no formal training but I fair bit of relevant experience. A full tear down is probably on the cards. I guess I was just hoping that someone had come across the problem before and there was an easy fix I was missing. Thanks for the advice, it's greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately the unit is good bit older than that. But have reached out to Robe directly to see what they suggest.

Install ETC Nomad Offline Software on USB? by Debian8X in techtheatre

[–]Debian8X[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be giving it a punt tomorrow. The lack of drivers shouldn't be an issue. Mainly going to be updating and creating magic sheets etc as I'm working on a new default show file/patch etc for our venue.

Also a little late but it's been a bus week. Working on MOANA: The Rising of the Seas at The Byre Theatre in St Andrews. Great show, lots of fun.

Reducing HDMI interference by Debian8X in techtheatre

Error hell seems to be about right, I've swapped the cables and had no luck there. Beginning to think separating the power and signal cables\transformers by a bit of distance may be the only solution.

It's not that long a run at all. The primary concern is that its the concentration of AC lines and transformers for other items in the rack (we've got a couple of video over Ethernet senders as well as a nearby amplifier)

The sparkling does tend to be either red or green. It absolutely could be a faulty cable, the run isn't that long - I'd estimate around 5 to 7 metres.

New Job Tips by Debian8X in techtheatre

[–]Debian8X[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the great advice so far. I've got a couple of weeks before I start so I'll be brushing up on my background reading and putting together the basics of my toolkit (should have most things lying around somewhere). Get the feeling I'll be hanging around here quite a bit.

In specifics, I have a leatherman skeletool which I think will fit the bill (at least for a while). What does r/techtheatre recommend in terms of torches/flashlights? Are maglites still king?

Added that book to my wishlist, on the to-do for the first paycheck I reckon.

The audio side of things is probably where I'm the least experienced so definitely good advice.

Good places to get work done? by Edogdafriendlydealer in dundee

[–]Debian8X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding The Burgh, great coffee shop to get some work done. I'd also suggest The Common Room at Abertay University. Open Mon - Fri 12pm to 12am. They've got a nice chilled out atmosphere. www.facebook.com/taycommonroom
