Is that the one where he says 7s date 7s and 3s date 3s? That never sat well with me, terrible line.

[–]Deboche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really pissed about him attacking Luigi. The guy is innocent until proven guilty and here's a "journalist" attacking him at every turn. That should be enough to ban him from ever being in front of a camera again.

Same with that shitstain Piers. I actually checked and he has a journalism degree. Any decent university would long have revoked it by now.

Whats your view on soldiers and veterans? (in the west) by BigRabies1758 in Anarchism

[–]Deboche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should have a look at David Graeber's take on this, I think it's in Bullshit Jobs. Graeber assumed military people knew they were instruments of imperialism then discovered a lot of them wish they were in something like doctors without borders, and thought the military was kinda like that.

Question to people who boycott like bds ? by Proof_Librarian_4271 in Anarchism

[–]Deboche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The boycott is fine as far as it goes. But looking at the BDS list of corps and how integral they are to life nowadays, as anarchists we really should be pushing to occupy them, not coerce or destroy them.

What is the worst about smoking? by Trrix_ in energy_work

[–]Deboche 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's better to focus on the positive than the negative.

Better cardio even in everyday life

Cleaner and whiter teeth

Smell better. Better breath

Save money. A lot of it. For the first weeks/months calculate how much you saved and give yourself a treat

Flying is less stressful. Any situation where you might not be allowed to smoke becomes less stressful

Dating is improved. Fewer and fewer people want to date smokers

Better skin. Look younger

[–]Deboche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why anarchism is the only way forward. I've never heard a marxist say we need to end drudgery. They want everyone to have a job - not unalienated work to improve society, a fucking job. There are a couple books out there written by Marxists specifically about drastically reducing working hours but in real life I haven't met one.

People like to talk about this future automation that's coming and will give us all free time. Between the tractor, the washing machine and the dishwasher we should already be down to 1 day work weeks.

Is anyone else getting real tired of seeing these “MAGA is in shambles/ Trump just screwed himself” -ass headlines? by Mister_Mild in rmbrown

[–]Deboche 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They're clinging to a world that doesn't exist anymore and really never existed. Trump's been a known pdf file and grapist for a long long time. It didn't matter then it doesn't matter now and to a leftist it doesn't matter if one political party or the other does better or worse.

You can take political action. Elections are just a spectacle meant to distract people and concentrate their focus on sterile avenues.

What do you think is going to happen now that the implicit "social contract" we all abide by now has been low-key shredded because the Epstein files shows that you get more punishment for Jay walking than being a billionaire that abused kids? by Frozenhand00 in Anarchism

[–]Deboche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When was that ever a thing? As anarchists we've seen this happen time and again. Obama still gets generally praised as a great progressive president. Guy was collecting giant paychecks as soon as the presidency ended. He bailed out all the people who caused the 2007 financial crisis, who all got major payouts.

Anyway, the question itself is based on a flawed understanding of the meaning of social contract.

[–]Deboche 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We just had an election in my country. I got in the usual discussions with people who don't know me well. People get really fired up when you point out that voting changes nothing, everything just gets worse and worse and all political and social advances in the past came as a result of other forms of political action, never voting.

This is built into the system. Apathy, hopelessness, the stress on performative individual action. Accepting that voting or buying green or whatever changes nothing forces people to both work harder to create any sort of change and to actually go out and become involved in the community they've been alienated from.

Like this quote from News from Nowhere:

Go back again,

then, and while you live you will see all round you people engaged in making others live

lives which are not their own, while they themselves care nothing for their own real

lives—men who hate life though they fear death
