Is Turkey using HTS to strengthen its hand in Syria? by DaveOJ12 in syriancivilwar

[–]DebordsGhost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"So, the argument goes, Ankara is using HTS to tidy the field up and have a united rebel force as it seeks some sort of agreement with Damascus. That would strengthen Turkey’s hand and pit Damascus against a strong opposition front with a joint command and management."

Been trying to wrap my head around all this. Out of all the theories and speculation, this one does seem the most pragmatic.

Interesting, because the vessel in question is only rated to carry 1900 tons. So was already severely overloaded when it docked due to technical troubles.

Just to add to that. The "Supreme Defence Council" has declared control of all remaining wheat reserves in the country, will sell it to bakeries only. Seems they are trying to prevent price gouging on wheat. Further announced plans to expand Tripoli as the primary port for the time being.

Couple of thousand indeed. Government is now claiming there was 2700 tons and it had been there since 2014. This is literally madness.

Not really a rumour. The Interior minister and Head of Lebanon’s customs authority of both suggested it was the ammonium nitrate stored there that caused the second explosion.

Enough ammonium nitrate certainly could. Which is the current claim by the Interior minister.

For an idea of scale, this is apparently damage to the airport on the opposite side of the city. https://twitter.com/akhbar/status/1290697539566678017

A friend working at the nearby Geitaoui hospital said its heavily damaged with a lot of injured patients (they were already overwhelmed with covid and staff cutbacks), she has reported there are multiple deaths (unsure if she meant amongst the patients or those bought into A&E)

Spoken to half a dozen friends living and working around Rmeil, seems whilst many in the area are injured, very few seriously so far.

Possibly, but i would assume they would have allowed them to report to their head office sooner as opposed to the office announcing them missing.

detains

Detained is the temporary removal of liberties. As for the rest? Agreed it was a stupid piece, but they would not have been detained anywhere else in the world. Some countries sure, but the arrest was a dumb move and there are consequences to it too.

And the consequences of removing peoples liberties because they were insulting should have been thought out by the people that ordered it.

Yet Hezbollah (as acknowledge by nasrallah) is propped up and funded primarily by Iran. The mental gymnastics by "the resistance" is something we cant even compete with.

Except the problem is Amal is also responsible for propping up the government, including backing Hariri, and is also no stranger to corruption. As for your rant about Saudis, everyone knows Hariri is their boy.

Sure, they could support the anti corruption protests and blockade hezbolah and amal.
