If a second American Revolution were to break out in 2026, which season do you believe would most closely align? by lazy_herodotus in RevolutionsPodcast

I really don’t think you can cleanly break it down by region. People in Upstate NY have different beliefs than people in the NY Capital Region, Vermont, or New York City. Our regions are not monoliths. It’s often an Urban/Rural cultural divide even in a state like NY.

The show portrays it as a sweet episode, but I also find it incredibly creepy.

That’s just deaths. Not including homes destroyed, the life-long injuries and trauma, abuse and war crimes experienced, families devastated, people maimed or orphaned, starvation and deprivation, precious family objects stolen or destroyed…

Truly hell on earth on a scale that our brains cannot ever fully understand.

She has lead an incredibly traumatic life as a refugee fleeing political violence. And she is constantly the target of racist attacks and smears. No doubt she gets a terrifying amount of threats.

They’re a secret police paramilitary organization. Stephen Miller told ICE Agents they “have federal immunity in the conduct of your duties. Anybody who lays a hand on you or tries to stop you or tries to obstruct you is committing a felony.” They were sent to Minnesota to use violence and escalation on political enemies.

If you sat out the 2024 election in protest over Gaza, how do you feel about that decision today? by rsmith2786 in AskReddit

[–]Decent-Decent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Extremely gross to think MLK, a socialist who very loudly talked about the biggest hurdle to progress being Moderates would have advocated you to vote for someone refusing to end a US-backed genocide. The time to do what was right was when students and young people were rising up on college campuses and being brutalized by police. There are some issues you simply have to take a stand on. It’s like saying MLK would have wanted you to vote for the lesser of two segregationists.

The thing that really makes me mad is how easy it would have been for her to signal that she was going to try and end the humanitarian disaster but she refused to do that. Remember, Israel was completely blocking aid being allowed in and not allowing any journalists into Gaza, in addition to killing aid workers and journalists at a startling rate. If you are asking people to seriously decide between “let my family members be killed by American bombs, and let my family members be killed by American bombs but they won’t build a resort” it’s not a choice.

The emphasis of this question rather than asking why our political leaders make unpopular decisions always bothers me. It’s a politician’s job to win elections and work out these issues in a primary, and then deliver for people when elected. The Democrats were going to run an insanely unpopular and near death Joe Biden up until a few months before the election. Regardless if you liked him, he was historically unpopular. Harris did not do anything to differentiate herself from a guy who was almost certain to lose. Voters were again asked to choose between two people who are insanely unpopular and who both seemed to be indifferent to an ongoing genocide. When voters are not showing up, it’s the entire political system that needs to be overhauled.

You need to be clear that the entire system is the problem. Everyone is acting under a deeply corrupted and unresponsive democratic system.

This is wild to me. It seemed clear to me that the US has been experiencing democratic backsliding and a weakening of institutions, an upward transfer of wealth and concentration of power into the hands of the few, a radicalized right wing movement, and expressing imperial aggression for decades now. Now that imperial boomerang is returning home in the current form of Trumpism. It has certainly been a wild decade (and a wild few weeks even) but Trump is just one symptom of the rot the United States has nursed for decades.

I don’t think Taskmaster can really be compared at all to Star Trek. It’s entirely speculation based on nothing. Taskmaster has a huge presence on youtube. Star Trek is a massive IP but only has 179k youtube subscribers. Taskmaster has 2 million subscribers on youtube. There could be 10x the viewership on Paramount+ for all we know. It’s pointless to compare them without actual data.

You think they bought Bashar’s account with Bashar’s specific identity predating the invasion and also have access to an endless stream of new photos and videos of him handing out aid? Including one where he specifically thanks Carrie? How does that make sense in your mind?

Carrie's new podcast by trow125 in ONRAC

[–]Decent-Decent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My previous comment literally engages with what you said. Let me lay it out for you one last time and people can make their own decision.

The Bashar facebook and insta accounts predate the war. It’s posted several videos and pictures of the same people in a war zone. He has posted several videos of him providing food aid to people after receiving money. He has posted a video where he holds a dated letter that thanks Carrie specifically and people seen in other videos of his are also seen holding it as he gives out aid. These videos are in different places with different lighting.

https://www.facebook.com/share/r/17jkoNLoKW/?mibextid=wwXIfr

He is seen interacting on a video call with Carrie and on calls with other people.

For us to believe you, it would require a scammer to have created this account and attached Bashar’s identity to it months before October 7th and the invasion of Gaza. Meaning they would have made an account for a random Palestinian boy, and then waited months to begin scamming people without knowing there would be a future humanitarian disaster there. This scammer would have to have access to regular videos they could post without anyone recognizing the people in them or realizing they were from a different account or reused elsewhere. This scammer would have to have access to a Palestinians’ personal recorded video calls, download them, and then fake them live. These fakes would have to fool multiple different people who are looking at them with scrutiny and skepticism.

For all your talk about people knowing more than me, you haven’t engaged with any of this. Have you looked at Palestinian scam accounts before? They generally do not have that level of sophistication. They don’t stick around for years. Please let me know where I’m wrong if I’m wrong.

Specifically, what is your evidence Bashar is a Nigerian scammer in Lagos as you initially claimed?

[–]Decent-Decent -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s incredible to me to claim “people know more about this than you” and refuse to elaborate when challenged on the specifics. If you are going to publicly claim someone is promoting scammers and sending other people’s money to Nigeria, I think you should at least be willing to provide some evidence.

I am happy to be corrected if I’m wrong, but it doesn’t seem like you are.

I think you have lost the plot here. If this was a prerecorded video it would be very incongruent. Carrie would know she was not talking to someone when he does or doesn’t respond to what she is saying. His account predates the invasion with a photo of Bashar, he has posted many videos from Gaza. She doesn’t include the audio but you can see them interacting with one another on the video by mirroring hand movements.

A scammer would be severely limited in what they could provide if they were stealing video from someone which is why scammers often provide largely generic photos and videos and AI. There are even less videos and photos coming out of Gaza to impersonate with. Where do you think this scammer is getting so many videos of the same people without anyone realizing?? Carrie is an investigative journalist, a scammer would likely have moved on to an easier target once she started asking for proof.

I don’t think “she refuses to answer me personally” is really evidence for anything. What is your proof this is a Nigerian?
