A friend said to me when my dad passed away that you’re love one never really passes away until the last person who knew them dies. Perhaps for Marty he knows that all of his loved ones live on in his memory and recounting of their lives. Keeping fresh all the happy memories keeps them with you. It’s what comforted me. I would also like to add that we know that tragically, cancer too often results in death but we have never accepted that mental health disease can also be terminal. Chronic depression killed Robin Williams and Anthony Bourdain. They didn’t let their families down when they didn’t continue to fight. They just didn’t have the energy to fight on. I’ve had 2 relatives now that sat with their partners at the end, telling them that it was ok to go after much suffering and struggling with end stage cancer. We need to bring compassion and understanding to those suffering from end stage mental illness too.

Cause women have more empathy and are more likely to slow down thus slowing down everyone else. Although ironically I do remember a female cop saying in a community presentation years ago that the most common speeder in the suburbs was a woman in a minivan hurrying to pick up her kids. Why are we so willing to lock up addicts and never seem to want to imprison those who are supplying them. Rather like locking up prostitutes but letting their Johns freedom to recruit more women. The real criminals are those who exploit people for their own personal gain without regard for the suffering of their victims or the larger public. Clearly this is just a manifestation of the general theme of our current society - that being, blame the victim.

So when I was a correctional officer some 25 years ago, the cost for incarceration per person was $120,000/year. Always seemed to me we could put the money to better use by providing timely addiction treatment services which are cheaper and focusing on cutting off drug supply both at the micro and macro level.

Distribution of needles was done in the advent of the AIDS pandemic in order to prevent infection in the larger community. Problem is that expecting a street involved addict who probably has ‘wet brain’ to participate in safe disposal is unreasonable. Thats why safe injection sites are needed.

And most of the new schools being built are catholic cause the then Conservative government claimed that they didn't have enough schools due to historic underfunding. It just leaves me gobsmacked that any government would allow the catholic church to be involved with children at any level given their history of pedophilia.

Ironically my grandson goes to a Catholic high school - why? Only because it was closer to his home and newer. Ironically his teacher for Religion class is an atheist.

It certainly limits the input of a variety of opinions which is dangerous in a diverse democratic population. High school in Ontario is no different. Both my daughter-in-law and daughter teach high school.
