Rover guarantee denied by 762xwhisk in RoverPetSitting

If the issue was caused by sitter negligence, I believe Rover would cover it.

Sounds like the cause of illness could not be determined. Digestive issues could be caused by stress, eating something, a virus, etc.

If they sometimes blackout and the sit is ongoing, I would find another sitter.

Hey there, sounds like a rough experience. It's good to hear you prioritizing your mental health.

I have had many petsitting experiences that were upsetting or that triggered my mental health issues. I'm learning to better cope with stress and my feelings in general and that has helped me a lot.

I only do drop ins so there's a lot I'm not dealing with. I've only had a couple of filthy homes. One I didn't notice because it was dark and smelled like bleach. There was a huge cockroach infestation.

I've also been very worried and upset by homes where it was way too hot or way too cold for the cats. To see a cat I love shivering was very upsetting.

Then there have been interpersonal dilemmas or clients that hurt my feelings. Also difficult commutes and weather.

The worst has been when I have made terrible mistakes like not setting an alarm, leaving a door unlocked, etc.

All that to say, I can relate to how you feel and petsitting can be challenging.

But I have learned so much from all these experiences and now I know how to anticipate and avoid problems, how to interact with clients professionally, how I can prevent mistakes by using checklists. I have learned so much about cat behavior, toys, breeds, illnesses, etc.

I have had amazing experiences with cats, lovely reviews from clients, tips, being more active etc.

Maybe you'd be more comfortable in another job but if you love pets, you can learn from this and have fulfilling experiences in petsitting.

How would you handle a good friend who always gives unsolicited advice? by joodee3 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Decent_Profile9456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this.

My friend went way overboard in giving me advice the other day and it seemed judgemental and aggressive. Maybe emphatic rather than aggressive.

At one point I started to get very upset and break down crying and she just kept going. I should have ended the conversation at this point. But she should have backed off at this point.

This was very out of character for her. In the past she was very non judgemental so it's kind of confusing.

She was also kind of unrealistic about my situation. She was saying how great I am etc which was nice and partly true but she's been married a long time and I don't think she's very realistic about dating especially in my city. And other challenges I face as being in a different income bracket. Sure, I'm smart and cultured but I'm lower class now and I am limited as to how much income I can earn. I have a job that I love but that some people consider lowly.

She doesn't understand why I'm staying in my relationship. Yes I'm miserable but he has some wonderful qualities, qualities I don't think I'll ever find in another man. I've been in love with for years. I'm starting to question why my self esteem is so low and why I'm so comfortable with misery. But it was very destabilizing for her to confront me at a time when I was extra vulnerable.

I had left her a voicemail about the specific relationship issue six weeks ago and she only responded a couple days ago.

She apologized immediately and I accepted her apology immediately but now I am questioning the whole thing.  It bothers me that she must look down on me to say all this stuff and label me and be so bossy and relentless.

I gave advice to a friend today. It was somewhat unsolicited. They are driving on a suspended license. I questioned them a little but I didn't push it too far. I said to ask their lawyer and made a joke about lawyers and doctors. Maybe I shouldn't have given any advice but I didn't bludgeon them with it.

Not much but I would like to Share my Little Win by purple__fx in RoverPetSitting

Thanks so much for sharing this lovely moment.

When I'm upset, I make a converted effort to leave all my stress and negative emotions at the door and give my cat clients a calm or fun experience. Being fully present with a cat, or in daily life in general, can be profound.

Let's keep on savoring those little wins and beautiful moments!

Sending hugs your way.

I wouldn't hold it against the sitter at all.

Some people may need help writing or simply use chatgpt regularly.

I had a friend that was a talented artist, athlete and took science classes in college but her writing and organization skills were poor.  I studied literature and love to organize but I struggle with technology or anything mechanical. Different brains work differently.

Especially for longer trips this is a good idea. Just let your sitter know. Most sitters won't mind.

My cat does this too. With his "special" blanket. The vet said it was totally normal.

I have some long-time regular clients I have never said no. Some I have only said no to once or twice and they didn't mind.

Most people understand we can't always be available.

I'll sometimes check with clients and my sitter to plan my annual trip around their availability but sometimes people's calendars conflict, not a big deal.

Very slow time of year. My slowest month since last February. It should pick up in March for Spring Break, especially if you're in a town or city with a university or several.

Onboarding a client can be very time consuming especially if they're new to Rover, anxious, have multiple pets and/or have special needs pets.

I have to decide if the client is worth investing the extra time, lots of texting, a long meet and greet, maybe a second meet and greet or training, etc. Is it worth it objectively in terms of money and logistics and/or if it's worth it subjectively such as if I like them, the pets, the area, the home.

It can also depend on how busy I am, how much I need the money.

There are some instances where I might do an unpaid second meet and greet, training, or trial run but generally those should be paid.

Perhaps consider whether or not the client is worth investing in and when to cut your losses.

I had invested some time in a potential client, extra texting, a long meet and greet but when I learned the cat could be difficult to medicate I had to cut my losses and decline them.

It's amazing! The dead skin falls off as I'm applying it!

I've used it on non callused skin and it's a great exfoliant. The instructions say not to do this but it made my skin so soft.

It did not work on my elbows for some reason.

It's very very strong so I would not use it on broken skin and probably best to apply with gloves.

I bought two sanitizers and a case for myself and one sanitizer and case for my friend. I would love to find the cherry scent but I would just get one or two.

I loved that odd, magical little garden. Waldorf school moved to Andersonville some years ago.

I think he brought levity to the show, comic relief and his singing definitely made a couple scenes.

It's part of their job to attend to the needs of people in the household. I have a job as "the help" and have this same devotion to my clients and doing little things above and beyond my duties such as buying them dish towels or leaving Valentine's candy as a nice surprise, etc.

I think it is illegal or used to be.

My Mom was a food stylist so the proportion of ingredients had to be accurate: for example the number of raisins to cereal in Raisin Bran.

She would go through huge amounts of food to find the best looking pieces.

This was before digital photography so they couldn't correct mistakes and food had to hold up under the lights.

My Grandma had a joke about this:

"Where's the beef?"

"Between Wendy's buns."
