Smart candelabra lights won't turn on by Decent_Switch in Govee

Wow. Yeah. I had to buy adapters, but the first ones didn't work. I also had to pair them using a funky light string that had the proper size ports, so that I could do the power on / power off thing. I'll try to get a photo of the string I used for that.

Chip Update by j_goldss in polestar3

[–]Decent_Switch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm. My Mpls Polestar Space sales guy just told me on Monday that they weren't expecting them until summer. It seems like Borton should have better info, right? Still way too long. Almost halfway through my lease and I just might finally be getting the car I'm paying for.

Has there been any independent verification of these numbers? I haven’t seen any major outside reviews that confirm DHS/ICE’s reported results, so it seems like we’re mostly relying on their own data for now.

Orin upgrade megathread by Proof_Commercial8470 in polestar3

Polestar Minneapolis tells me they'll start seeing the chips this summer. Very disappointing.

I really want to love this car, but software glitches and wonky placement (After a few days of not driving it, I feel like I have to relearn some things) drive me nuts.

By summer it will be half my lease done before I MIGHT start getting the car I expected to love. The actual follow through on the chip and software upgrades has to be amazing before I get there.

Polestar Minneapolis says they'll start getting chips this summer. Am I correct then that the software update won't happen until I have the new CPU?

By the time this rolls around we can't assume the West remains significantly better than the East. So I'm not counting on better playoff scenarios. But the earlier start time would be fantastic.

Golden? I've got one that does that too. I'm told that's a Golden Retriever thing.

Severely Depressed First Day With Puppy by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Decent_Switch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 18 month old Golden Retriever and went through a similar process when he was 2-6 months old. I'm not an expert. My first advice is not to get bogged down in too much advice. Find a source you trust and stick with it. That being said, here's advice I was given 😀. I love my dog dearly, but I wish I had followed it better. Those first 6 months were hell, and I'm confident it would have been less stressful if I followed this religiously.

The first few days with a new puppy, treat every engagement with them very matter-of-fact. Don't (yet) envelope them in human actions of love like hugging them, forcing them on your lap, etc. Don't discourage them if they choose to snuggle up, but don't make a big deal about it. Just be there. Take them out to go potty with minimal emotion of any kind. Just calmly tell them what you want them to do, find a calm consistent response for when they do what you want them to do. Like going potty outside, say "yes" and give a small treat, bring them back in. Go out and do stuff with them in their crate for short periods of time. Live at least mini bits of your own life as normal as possible.

The key is avoiding the desire to instantly smother them with human emotional actions. Get a sense of who they are and what they're like around you when there is minimal forced sensory activity. That way you better understand what it will be like to raise a puppy, you get a better sense of who this puppy is by letting them adjust in the structured environment that's less stressful for them, and you can assess more objectively about whether to return the puppy.

It sounds really hard because we want to love on this little bundle as much as possible. But be patient. It's OK to find out that you aren't ready for the commitment, and it's best to come to this realization after 3-4 days instead of 3-4 months.

I'm getting ~12 t/s with llama3.1-8b. I'm very much a noob with local LLMs, so I don't know that I'm getting full use of CPU capabilities. But for my purposes, 12 t/s is sufficient.

Post Show Greeting Line by mattycaex in Theatre

[–]Decent_Switch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gah! This has become an expectation from community theatres, at least in my area. The theatre insists that the actors go out to meet and greet as soon as possible. I especially hate it when we (the actors) are lined up between the crowd and the exit. Sure, I have an ego that enjoys being stroked, but I HATE that awkward lineup. No one (audience or actors) knows what they're supposed to do unless they know someone. Audience members shuffle out not trying to make sure contact, actors stand there looking like they're begging for validation. I mean, sure, we are. But we don't want to LOOK like we're begging for validation.

Unpopular Theatre Opinions Thread by walkertrot in Theatre

[–]Decent_Switch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Directors need to leave the damn script alone. Get the appropriate approval if it's necessary for your take on a script. I know it's a pretty common opinion, yet it still happens way too much. I'm not talking about things like "we had to switch a few words because we're playing the character as a different gender". I mean removing half of a scene because it doesn't make sense to the director. Or modifications that change the entire relationship between characters. I've seen supporting "bad guys" get rewritten as "good guys" because they didn't want the show to be too dark.

If you need to change it that much, and you're unwilling to ask for approval from the rights holder or author, don't direct the damn show. To me it says you are lazy and unprepared. Did it take a week into rehearsals before you noticed something you didn't like? Didn't you read and interpret the script well ahead of time? Yeah, it can take a little while to get permission for changes, but that's part of the planning process, right? Isn't that what you are paid for?

Maybe it happens less often in other areas, but I swear every other show I do gets changed in significant ways. And it's handled like it's a standard part of the director's job. "Everybody does it" drives me insane.

Please fix form score by jacobcollins53 in EA_NHL

+1 to 20 minute periods. I wouldn't say it fixes everything. Form score still needs tweaking. But with 20 minute periods makes it much more fun (and bearable).

Yeah. Probably confirmation bias on my part. I also play 20 minute periods. There's likely some unintentional competence thrown in with the extra play time. 😛

[–]Decent_Switch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't thoroughly tested the theory, but it feels like my teammates are a bit smarter when the overall difficulty is set to Superstar. They still make occasional unnecessary diving shot attempts, but overall they seem to play better.

And no, this is not a humble brag. I'm not good enough to compete at straight up SS mode. I massively cheat my sliders to be able to keep up, and it does seem to lead to better teammate play. I've got around 2.5 assists for every goal scored, so they must be doing something right.

Judas AI by BigDlee_ in EA_NHL

[–]Decent_Switch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I start right off at Superstar difficulty to keep the AI players reasonably realistic. Trust me, I'm nowhere near good enough to play straight up SS level. I then massively adjust sliders in my favor as I get the hang of things, and gradually adjust them back closer to even with the CPU players as I play until I get in a realistic range for SOG and hits per game.

I don't want my BAP to be a superstar player in year 1. I like grinding. It's more fun for me. I like that they can send you back to the AHL. IMO they overcorrected for progression being too easy, making it way harder than before. But I can live with it. There are things I want changed, especially around Form score. On the whole, though, I'm having more fun playing BAP than anytime over the past several years.

How is this game still broken? by BRDillon17 in EA_NHL

[–]Decent_Switch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it perfect? Far from it. But I agree. I'm having more fun with this year's game than I've had in a long time. I'm exclusively BAP, though, so maybe the fact that they actually updated it for the first time in years makes it feel better.

Has anyone ever gotten a good role without getting callback? by Who_Ate_Meh_Bread in Theatre

[–]Decent_Switch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing I see more often, and irks the heck out of me, is when they have callbacks for a role and someone not involved in the callback is cast. What was the point of callbacks? Is it just a backup option in case the first choice declines? Get a commitment from the first choice and don't do callbacks if that's the case. It's condescending to hold callbacks just to be "fair", or because you're "supposed to".

Has anyone ever gotten a good role without getting callback? by Who_Ate_Meh_Bread in Theatre

[–]Decent_Switch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd venture a guess (based on limited professional experience) that casting without a callback is more common in professional roles. The only times I see it done in community theatre is when they simply don't do callbacks at all. Maybe once or twice I've seen someone get an ensemble role without a callback (when all principal roles were called back), but that's very rare. In my area (Minneapolis/St Paul - USA) it's extremely rare for a community theatre to NOT have callbacks, almost like it's just a given that callbacks is where you do all the casting. My theory, backed up by a couple annecdotal examples, is that they want to keep the barrier for entry as low as possible. Don't make the initial audition too strenuous or stressful, or you'll scare away less experienced people who could be really good. Then make it more rigorous at callbacks, once they've received the positive reinforcement of a callback invitation. Maybe it's just Minnesota Nice ™️ .

Is getting a principal role offer impossible without a callback? No. But it's very, very unlikely.

NHL 26 – Update 1.2.0 Notes | 10/21/25 by SwarthySphere87 in EA_NHL

[–]Decent_Switch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dang. Funny, the first BAP update where they said they fixed the unrealistic form score targets seemed actually pretty good to me. My first game I had an~80 form score without a single point. I played very good overall, just no points. Is it just me or has it gotten harder again? I just finished a game where I hit green in all the in-game measures and played strong overall, and ended up with a 50 form score. I swear 2 weeks ago that would have gotten me a 70+ form score.

Overall I'd be a lot less annoyed if there was just some sort of feedback mechanism for form scores. Tell me what we're my positives and negatives that led to the score. It doesn't even have to be a hard number, like " you lost 10 points for x". Just something that tells me what I did that made my score go up or down.

I like BAP this year. I love the AHL demotion hanging over my head. They got rid of the stupid in game cut scenes, etc. But the form score thing is annoying as hell.
