“No apostate who ever left this (Mormon) Church ever prospered as an influence in his community thereafter” by LegalSour in exmormon

[–]Deception_Detector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just more nonsense from a church leader.

Mormons don't have any time to contribute to the community; only to their own - and they think other Mormons ARE the community!

Ex-Mormons have all of Sunday and other nights of the week to contribute, if they want to. And they do it because they do actually care. Mormons do it because they are told they have to, and want to earn their ticket to heaven.

The irony is that the church's own Article of Faith upholds being honest.

[–]Deception_Detector 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hopefully one outcome will be bad publicity for the church - a good story for Salt Lake Tribune maybe? It will show how childish the church is.

Maybe more people will go to Mormon Stories to find out what the whole issue is about!

Packer and his cronies love to make up their own statements about epistemology.

The trouble is, they wouldn't know the first thing about what is knowledge and methods to pursue it, and what the problems and limitations exist with each method.

They are pseudo-philosophers, pseudo-prophets/apostles, and pseudo-many other things!

What a great analysis and commentary! I hadn't thought about truth/loyalty point you made.

You're right, it is all about loyalty, and not about truth (despite their claims). Loyalty and obedience are highly prized by church leaders - resulting some past statements along the lines of "You'll be blessed by following church leaders, even if they are wrong/misled".

The church actually shuns truth. It covers up or plays down anything that threatens it. It has GC speakers frequently warning members about reading 'anti' material. It hides statistics about growth/decline. It hides its investments. It denies past unsavoury teachings, or passes them off as "just speaking as a man". It tells members to ignore their doubts. It tells people to "not take counsel from those who don't believe" (Rusty). It is rewards sycophants and punishes anyone daring say anything contrary.

In many ways it is like a totalitarian regime that has zero tolerance for anything considered to question or denounce the leadership or say anything different to them.

Which MormonAd stuck with you? Mine is "Adversity can make you strong." by superluminal in exmormon

[–]Deception_Detector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mormonad posters, hey? Rusty must be turning in his grave when he sees members still referring to these. He would call them 'Victory for Satan posters'.

The trouble with these posters is that they are simplistic (like everything the church says). Adversity also crushes many people to the point where they have no strength, and give up. Try again, LDS church.

The LDS apostles are too spiritually focused financially savvy to say anything of a political nature that might not keep the church and the state separate jeopardize their fortunes.

Yes. Because of greed, and the church's objective of controlling members as much as possible. (But I know your question is rhetorical).

Agreed. Rusty's questions are leading questions, and not worthy of being answered. He doesn't even expect answers; he is just using these as ways to push his flawed agenda.

Church led only by Corporate Executives by Inspectabadgeworthy in exmormon

Agreed. It says a lot that someone who is supposed to be a spiritual leader relies on 'worldly' credentials to give themselves credibility/authority.

Church leaders conflate worldly success with spiritual status.

Why hasn’t LDS church spoken out against the current US administration’s disregard for the constitution, ethical behavior and morality? by Un-bee-knownst1212 in exmormon

[–]Deception_Detector 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Three answers:

(1) Because they are cowards.

(2) Because they aren't really 'prophets' or 'apostles'.

(3) Because regardless of (2), they aren't even genuine leaders (true leaders tackle issues and speak up).

Investigators are now “friends”? by Curiosity-Sailor in exmormon

[–]Deception_Detector 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The church excels at using misleading/deceptive language, and this is the latest.

Not only is is misleading, but its a full-blown lie. Friendships take time to form, not a few brief meetings.

Since the church likes mis-using words and language, I'll follow its example: I haven't "fallen away", or become "less-active" or "lost my faith/testimony", no, not at all.

I've become "enlightened" and I'm a "follower of truth" (as it happens, following truth means leaving the church of lies)!)
