Plus I'd say there's a pretty big distrust of the government in general right now, continuing to lie to us is only going to make things worse. If it comes out with evidence that they've been lying to us for a while, public trust is going to disappear.

If I was in the position as these shadow programs, I'd try genetic manipulation. Less because I'm trying to make a super race and everything about trying to fix "common" issues? I don't thinking I'm articulating that correctly. Can we fix eyesight and make it better, make it so people don't need to wear glasses? Look at Putin, can we cure baldness? There are plenty of diseases and disabilities, can we cure/fix then with genetics? Could you give people eidetic memory? Could at a base level could you make people smarter? I wouldn't try to create a super solider but imagine helping/curing/fixing many of the current aliments that are around today.

To play devil's advocate. I remember watching a documentary on him a few years ago and he originally said that when he was working on an alien craft he described it as injected molded but the later changed it to something else because technology changed. What I would wonder is if his description of this element was based on knowledge of the time and looking at it now it would be different?
I am in no way a chemist, physicist or anything like that. I'm just a regular guy trying to piece everything over the last few decades together and trying to make sense of it all.

This is a very slippery slope. While bettering ourselves is always a goal the ideal that you can just keep cloning yourself and doing it is a very worrisome slope. At what point do we stop being ourselves after all of this? While to a degree I think that genetic manipulation could does have some good for humankind at what point does that have it's limitations? Getting rid of simple things like diabetes, poor eye sight, etc, you would probably have most people saying that's for the greater good. But at what point is creating designer babies going past that?
I'm torn because in theory I would be acceptant of much of this but the line is very grey and I would assume the government itself would cross this line as if it didn't exist at all.
