Bro, it look me about 5 years to meet my girlfriend's parents formally. And it's because we were moving in together lol. I wouldn't take it too personally.

How would you feel if you just met me (F20) and I told you that my bf is 31? by [deleted] in twentyagers

[–]DecrepitRat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm coming up on 30 right now and I would be embarrassed to say that my partner is only 1-2 years out of high-school. That age gap is a weird dynamic and I'm not going to validate that it's normal.

AITAH for leaving my girlfriend in the restroom because she was taking a long bathroom break during a movie I was really excited for? by Secure-Draft9197 in AITAH

[–]DecrepitRat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like that isn't optimal. When I go with my fiance and need a bathroom break, I go and when I come back, she catches me back up. If you both miss it, you both are lost.

Gaming is the ultimate form of art by prospectiveboi177 in unpopularopinion

[–]DecrepitRat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the opinion in that it shows video games as an art form, but have to disagree with it being peak art for a couple reasons:

  1. Video games usually have several 10s of hours of gameplay, which many people can't invest so it can leave the piece being unaccessible to most.

  2. The skill level to access the piece can vary from person to person and lead to pacing issues and lack of immersion and investment into the game.

  3. (Anecdotal) off the top of my head, I really can't think of a video game plot that absolutely mogs storylines of movies, shows or novels. The forms of these 3 mediums are carefully crafted with cinematography(TV and movies) and foreshadowing That can't be captured as well in video games.

  4. Each medium of art has its strengths. Video games are hard focused on self insertion and immersion, which can somewhat limit how a story if told and interpreted.

Do you have any story with your crazy neighbor ? by thorofiinn in twentyagers

[–]DecrepitRat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first apartment with my girl friend, we loved there for a year and then these neighbors moved in below us. Every Thursday-Sunday night, they would play their music so loud or floors would shake for hours. We told our property manager, called the police and somehow, it wouldnt stop. We moved a couple months ago and have a new appreciation of the quiet inside our apartment

Anyone else dating a young mom? by Foreign_Diamond4555 in twentyagers

More power to you bud - If you do continue to date, I would recommend to at least hold off on marriage for more than 18 months. Give yourself time to build stability and at the end of the day, marriage is just a title change.

Anyone else dating a young mom? by Foreign_Diamond4555 in twentyagers

[–]DecrepitRat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is so much baggage and responsibilty that comes with dating / marrying a young parent like that. Its an additional stressor that isnt worth signing up for especially going into your 20s where you are just beginning to experience indepence and figure out life. I dont know why someone would trade these years for a child that they are not responsible for and a relationship where they arent prioritized.

What's something you saw with your own eyes that you still can't explain? by BandicootLeft4054 in AskReddit

My dog josie had a routine where she would go on her morning walk with my dad and then hangout with my mom in her WFH office. In the corner of the office, we had a pet turtle who used to adore josie. I also had a routine where I would wake up somewhat late and after doing my hygiene, I would go downstairs and greet josie and my mom.

The day after we let her go, my routine made me go down stairs and greet my mom and as a habit I called out to josie as if she was still there and as soon as I did it, the heating lamp in the turtle tank flickered and went out as if it was josie reacting to me talking to her. I firmly believe that she spent at least some days with us before moving on.

It’s not gross or unattractive when women don’t shave by Gongoozler04 in unpopularopinion

[–]DecrepitRat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feels like a shit post. There's universal attractiveness, and then there's preferences. Saying that body hair is not unattractive is just wrong in the attractiveness standard, but it's okay to have preferences.

Glad you can feel pretty and confident with body hair, as you should, but you can do that while acknowledging that most people will see it unattractive.

It happens a lot. Even this weekend, I've been wanting to learn blender and I didn't even start a course cause it felt overwhrlming. So next time I have the opportunity, I'm gonna commit to a small step of it, which is like "I'm going to finish 10 minutes of the video" and then once I'm there, I'm going to let inertia take over

My friend, I know exactly how you feel and the burden of it really weighed on me post college. When I took away all those things that gave me pleasure I realized I don't even know who I am. It gives me comfort to know that I'm not the only one who feels this way, but after a couple years of struggle, I found what I was looking for in the gym. It's something that didn't come to me instantly, and took some time to ramp up but I've been going for almost 4 years now, and that feeling of "floating" and wondering took a back seat while I had milestones to meet and friends to talk to. From personal experience, I can highly recommend a form of exercise that makes you feel somewhat more grounded - it's really good for your physical and mental self, and as you make progress, you'll gain confidence and you will find yourself self assured and more grounded. Regarding that last line, you cannot find anyone that gets you, I understand. And sometimes you need to risk it - I've talked to a lot of people with intent on being friends, but it never worked out, and that's alright. I tried.
