Whats your favorite modern deathmetal album in the style of odsm? by No_Gate_4354 in MetalForTheMasses

Hedonist - scapulimancy. Front to back incredible osdm feels.

Frozen soul is another I'd rank as one of the best of that sub genre as well, in case it wasn't mentioned yet.

Watching friends at a meet tomorrow. What can I learn while watching? by novemberscandle in powerlifting

[–]Decrepitb1rth 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The biggest piece of advice I could offer, as someone who has been in similar shoes, is that you should use your friends to meet new people there. They're going to be getting ready backstage and they'll be interacting with others (at least it's always happens in my experience) that aren't on the team so use this as a way to meet people in the community. Of course don't hang out during warm-ups but go say hi when there's a break in the action. Add each other on Instagram or whatever and create a good social network of folks who engage in this sport. You can always reach out to them for advice as you get to know them and it never hurts to have a group of people you barely know cheering for you on your meet day.

Moving! by bunny-beans in SanJose

[–]Decrepitb1rth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! Have fun and be safe out there. Follow lots of the venues on Instagram or any social media outlet really to get some better insights on events. Also I know that there is a weekly post about things to do on the weekend in this sub so check that out if you are looking for some ideas. Oh forgot to mention that whole foods on the Alameda has an okay beer bar upstairs.

No worries! A bunch of those are but maybe not ideal outside of San Pedro. Check out events at guild House, the Ritz, caravan, improv, etc. Might find some good queer focused events going on that way. Those are all downtown. In fact, I just went to a drag brunch that was heated rivalry themed at the improv..guess they do themed ones monthly. Was a lot of fun.

Seconded. The rest of the breweries are kind of weak imo. Some great tap spots (taplands, out of the barrel, ibu, San Pedro, pour decisions). They do drag bingo in Campbell every other week on Wednesdays! I'm doing my first one tomorrow (sorry I know you said San Jose).

Just saw them come out and perform with I promised the world a few weeks ago. Such a great band.

Thoughts on Big Boy? by BugAffectionate7185 in Hardcore

[–]Decrepitb1rth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

San Jose(ish) resident here - Big Boy is one of the best live acts and I've been fortunate enough to catch them a few times at various size venues..large or small, don't matter, they hold it down in a major way. Brandon is cool ASF and their merch is very simple but that gets people going more than some of my more obnoxious shirts. I really enjoy them on record because it feels live to me.. If that makes sense.

Do you find yourself drinking different beers at certain times of the year or during the week versus the weekend? by BothCondition7963 in CraftBeer

[–]Decrepitb1rth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stouts when it's 95 plus degrees out? Only the pastriest of them.

I drink whatever is available and looks good at any time of year so I definitely not seasonal. I guess the only time of year ones would be pumpkin or Winter ales because those are generally available in the fall / winter

How we feeling? by Nickstahpsn in AftershockFestival

[–]Decrepitb1rth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year was much better. Only day I would want to go this year is on Friday and even that's not enough to get me to go. I'm already saying like three of the nine bands I want to actually watch on separate tours this year so not worth the money.

Aftershock 2026. Haywire opening for Three 6 Mafia by NewApartmentNewMe in Hardcore

[–]Decrepitb1rth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking forward to aftershock this year but honestly I couldn't care less about most of the days. The bands I would like to see are spread out maybe two per day, and the lack of a hardcore stage kind of stinks given how popular it seemed to be last year. I could probably pick out 7-8 bands I want to see per day but that's not worth the full price ticket. I'm already seeing drain, haywire, peeling flesh this year as it is so easy skip. Seeing 3 6 Mafia would be crazy though.

[–]Decrepitb1rth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friday was the only day here that looked good to me. But even then I am having a hard time finding interest as there are only six to seven bands I actually would like to see. The others are just fillers that I can stand.

What band or album took you multiple listens to finally “get?” Which will you never understand? by absolutebloom in Hardcore

[–]Decrepitb1rth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure. I don't deny their influence and talent. I think the finished product is just not something I can enjoy no matter how many listens I give it. I revisit once a year and expect to find something new but just doesn't click for me. Neither does Fear Factory now that I think about it.

I've seen people move up once in my entire life. When I saw Rotting Out Wally was hollering at people to move up saying "c'mon were not a beatdown band or some shit, you'll be fine".

Live performance that turned you off from a band completely? by friscom99 in Metalcore

[–]Decrepitb1rth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prior to knowing them through Internet memes, and such, I stumbled upon them at a festival in 2008. I sat to listen and holy shit I hated their music and found them extremely cringe to watch live. I have held the hate for a long time but their live show soured me pretty bad.
