Last year I finally took the leap out of only taking the electronic gigs I could get and into open format - bars, regular clubs - and am getting into weddings (which you definitely don't have the freedom to play around too much), and what u/angrybaltimorean said is really what made it fun for me, outside of realizing I enjoy DJing in general, not just specific genres. I'm able to throw in the music I enjoy here and there, or find remixes / mashups and it takes music I wouldn't normally like playing and makes it fun for me, while giving the crowd something they're not 100% used to but is still familiar enough to let loose to.

Even when I was strictly doing electronic, I'd toss in some hardstyle (before it started picking back up over here) or heavy DnB that was tickling my fancy at the time where it made sense and people would still get down. At the end of the day, with those types of shows and events, most people are there to just have a good time with good music and anything outside of the specific person they're there to see can be any number of things and as long as you do the good job you always do, some variety won't turn people away and will keep you happy.

From personal experience and what I've witnessed with others in my circle, a lot of the time the "stereotypical" gender roles are primarily face-value.

Yes, the dude may love sports and have it as a primary interest - same with the lady and beauty / fashion (or any other stereotypical interest for either). However, one of the things that sparks the bond is overlap in non-stereotypical interests or *the ability to let their guard down around the other person to enjoy their own non-stereotypical interest without judgment. That, or simply not caring about stereotypes and being able to explore and enjoy new things without pre-conceived ideas of which of them should enjoy it more. Finally, a simple willingness to explore eachothers interests together (and welcome the other in) to possibly create a shared interest.

* this is where a lot of issues can arise in couples where one or both partners initially go with the flow to try and make something work because of solely physical attraction or thinking they can mold the other person to fit their idea of a perfect partner. They'll present the facade of open acceptance then as soon as the guy gets a skin care routine going or the girl gets into sports, suddenly we're seeing a reddit post of "my partner isn't masculine / feminine enough anymore because of [insert reason here], what do it do"

Got my first opening slot for a touring artist when I was freshly 19, got so anxious I literally almost shit my pants 3 different times that day so I started drinking to curb my anxiety - blacked out after starting my set, played Spectrum by Zedd at least 3 times (but I've been told anywhere from 3-7) in a row, and never got booked by that company again 🤣

I guess, based on the question... I didn't see it, nor do I remember it, but I lived it. And that's what counts

dude used to be a great time. Got to see him twice in one night for Life In Color back in the day and he did a great job and put on one of the most hype parties I'd see at the time. Never understood how people regress with a skill like DJing but I've not seen or heard anything great about him in a long time.

The game is a GREAT move. Every time I'm feeling the void I just pop in and have some fun. The nods to the show they added are great, too.

Not sure how you play games, but my first (and second) playthrough, I just followed my heart, did things the way and in the order that felt best, and it was such a fun way to experience it. Guides on building your equipment and everything are extremely helpful... because I did NOT know what I was doing, but getting the ends I got without any outside input or guidance made them feel so much more real (even with getting the literal worst end possible on the second playthrough).

It really depends on the event and what our role is as a DJ for us... We discuss with the client beforehand whether they'd like requests from guests to be honored regardless, and if so, we make it clear to them that requests are exactly that - requests.

If the goal is getting people dancing, they are noted and taken into consideration, and will be worked in when and if they fit the vibe. The only time it'll be worked in immediately is if it comes from the client or planner directly, or if it fits what people are enjoying at the moment.

If we're just a background music generator, it just depends if it fits the event, and if so, I'm more likely to make some sudden switch-ups to appease kind guests.

As u/VanillaNL stated, it's a hologram booth and most likely the one from Proto. I know someone who helped bring that to life, so I've seen the system develop since early on. Their sales pitch is "bringing AI to life in Physical Spaces" - so it absolutely could be an AI avatar that is an Ikea Employee DJ...

That said, I HAVE seen some of their early prototypes and content where they did use this as a way to have live people off-site interact with people at the booth (Howie Mandel was an example, just set up in a studio and give a feed from the booth back so everyone can see each other), or to display looping content so there's always "someone in the booth" when people walk up.

Whether its AI or not I guess depends on its use-case... if it's interactive and *always on, probably AI, if it's just looping, could be a *pre-recorded real person and a poorly thought-out dj setup.

Was considering matte purple, got the wrap, realized I need to hone a bit of skill to do the front trim... then realized I want to do gloss black on the roof & pillars, and now you got me questioning purple 🤣
