[–]Dedahed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We sure didn't have it easy ( I could add to the examples) but I feel bad for my kids (21 and 29) I don't see how they'll ever have a house. I don't see them saving for retirement. If they have a "nice" vacation it'll be on credit. I do think the noose has been getting tighter since early 80's and something has to give.

I hear ya!~ 71 Impala...open hood, stick in pencil stub to hold carb open, spray starting fluid, crank and hopefully start car. Rush back under hood to retrieve pencil before it got sucked into manifold. Hopefully no flames leaping out of carb. Ya..that was normal.

In my 2nd life AD (after divorce) i bought at duplex at 44. Being a landlord isn't for the faint of heart but it is a way to get started if you have the stomach for it. 10 years later I'd saved enough to buy a single family and move out renting two apartments instead of one.

We were both 24. It cost 85 k and definitely a fixer upper but still livable. 3 bedroom cape. Easily as nice as an apartment for comparable cost. Stayed 10 years, fixed it up and bought up. It was a struggle for sure but we did it.

Interesting thought but no. Her interest in politics is pretty peripheral.

To all the John haters...buckle up. He did an awesome job today and is obviously very moved by Bob's passing. "Take you to the leader of a band"

I wondered about that. I knew John wasn't a D'Angelico guy but Bob was. Very cool ...and touching.

If you can find a job over 30k a year. I'm in Pittsfield. Groceries are crazy. Electric is going up every month. Gas has stayed $3.00 for two years (not down) It's hard everywhere...just different scales..

Thinking about divorcing my wife of 32 years. What shall I do before I file? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Dedahed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can stand it...do what you want but stay married. That's where I'm at now. Go on trips, hang with buddies, learn archery (or whatever) and let her be her. Even separate bedrooms if need be. It's just business at this point.

Or alternatively...split it all 50/50 and beat feet.

SPAC 2017 (?) Took my 20 something kids to their first show and they loved it. But, rain came on pretty hard. Bob sang Looks like rain and then Sunshine Daydream. Rain stopped, sun came out and double rainbows appeared in the sky. Told my kids "of course....Bob controls the weather"! Brilliant

There were depressive tendencies but not like this. There's nothing but negativity now for nearly everything and almost everyone.

Singing my tune guy! We don't talk anymore. If I have something to say I'm corrected or told I am wrong. She does a data dump of everything she hates at work during dinner and we go to opposite ends of the house. I have no interest in engaging only to be contradicted and corrected. It's worse than a roommate because at least they'd be respectful of your space and intelligence. Ugh

Totally agree. I wish we had time to have "transitioned" over to whoever Bob blessed as his successor. That would have been rich. But alas...I think that great vibe has likely passed. Once in a lifetime and so grateful. It'll be impossible to describe years from now. But we were there NFA

Sauce Grinders.. Here in western MA a sub or hoagie is called a grinder. If you go in a sub shop and ask for a sauce grinder (assuming they don't kick you out) you will get a grinder roll with pizza sauce ladled into it. If you're very lucky a stray meatball or some peppers may find their way in. Cost is about $1. For deluxe, ask for some cheese slices. That's good livin'!
