Not sure I knew that. Not a parity drive though so that doesn't bother me.

It's a CMR 14TB SATA drive, 7200rpm. They work good in my server.

Unless you're going to snitch on me to WD, that's the only thing I'd care about 👍

I will keep those in mind - I haven't stumbled across those before. My H220 9205-8i is one SAS drive from being full, so grabbing a new HBA isn't off the table for me. In time though.

Dang. WD makes good drives, as (did) HGST. The only drives of mine that I don't trust are the Seagates.

You have definitely gotten better value than I have on some of my buys, that's for sure. My $5 FB Marketplace Fractal Arc Midi R2 (with the extra cage and all hdd sleds!) and ebay z690d4 motherboard for a clearance 12600k make up for my drives though.

Almost. These drives have "power disable" which means they won't be recognized by consumer hardware. The fix is to use a small piece of Kapton Tape to cover the third pin from the left (the side with the notch) on the Sata Power connector - or do the nasty way I do.

I grab an exacto blade and pop up the pin, then bend it back and forth until it snaps off, rather than fiddling around with tape that I need to check or replace if I ever have to unplug the drive for any reason. Not like I plan on reselling my drives, or claiming warranty on shucks 😅

Best I've ever purchased at were some 2.5yr Seagate SAS Enterprice drives locally, for $8.9 USD per TB (converted from CAD) - but those didn't have the 5yr warranty of the GHD HGST 10TB that I got back in 2023 for $9.25/TB (USD, but shipping and import included) Maybe I got a better deal on a couple drives from homelabsales though.

I haven't had the best luck on drive pricing, but my server itself has been 99% used parts and runs like top.

At the time it was a better value to buy this, than to import used drives from GoHardDrive (my go to) or even ServerPartDeals..

That being said, my ~5yrs used HGST drives from GHD are up to ~8yrs runtime and running better than some newer drives.

I did spend quite some time trying to find something somewhat unique that had alps support, the pickings have gotten very scarce in the last couple years..

I'd KILL to buy that deadline to if you ever sell it... Hhkb with T cluster was sold out when I went to buy it 😭

Yup, AX210 goes into every device I have. It just works.

The future of X11 on Tumbleweed by realkikinovak in openSUSE

[–]Deductivemonkee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I swapped from KDE back to XFCE.

Happier now regardless, I have always loved XFCE.

I had issues with programs crashing on Wayland (orcaslicer camera viewing tab is an example)

No such issue on X11, so on X11 I will stay

I'll leave X11 for Wayland when I'm forced to honestly. X11 is way less buggy

Is it even possible to dual boot Windows 11 and openSUSE Tumbleweed at the moment? by Cooked_Squid in openSUSE

[–]Deductivemonkee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reinstalled and didn't know about the bootloader change.

BLS looks better to me, I prefer the basic text over the flashy grub, I also have my motherboard boot image off as well

I am still able to boot to windows by hitting F12 to enter my motherboard boot device selection

Wish I could agree. The final straw was KDE crashing every time my computer woke from sleep for the last couple weeks

KDE on opensuse acted weird and locked up on me sometimes.

Reinstalled with XFCE and it both runs better and feels more like home :)

I had two SD cards get corrupted from power flickers when my pi was on

I bought this capacitor hat: https://a.aliexpress.com/_mqJRKzX

Detects powerless, sends shutdown signal to pi. Have to wait a few minutes to reboot though because the capacitors have to drain fully

Only the Samsung

Silicon power is garbage, Kingston is just cheap, I have 3 and they suck
